I'm looking for a GL1800 if there is any in the market, secondhand of course. More keen on the blue or black model. Perhaps someone could shed some light on owning a goldwing. Maintainence, potetial problems, etc....

Hi bikee69, saw that you own STs and Goldwing before, just asking for your frank opinion, is it worth to sell a 5 year old STX and get a used GL1800?

 

Its not for daily transport, just to enjoy and appreciate the ride occasionally.

 

My current stx only used once or twice a week, average 10-20km per ride only.

 

Negative points of GL18 compared to STX

- smaller tank, lower range

- ?higher petrol consumption

- stuck in traffic jam like cars

- higher road tax/insurance and poorer resale value

 

Plus points

- better wind/weather protection

- more luggage space

- have cruise control

- have radio/cd

- have reverse gear

- ?airbag

- better comfort for pillion

 

Besides the radio frequency and miles (mph instead of km/hr), what other different specs between authorised distributor Boon Siew Goldwing and PI?

 

So, for abt the same price, which is better to get - a used GL18 or replace with a brand new STX (facelift available?).

This really depend on you. The reason I sole my GL1800 is due to family commitment and got no time to go for long trip. Is a waste to park a GL1800 home and dun go for tour.

What is the FC for STX as compared to GL?

The FC for my STX is about 22 ltr for 320Km. but i heard some bodys STX can hit about 400KM when their fuel tank hit the reserve mark.

That is great!! I heard the GL's typical FC is about 12km/l. The STX's is about double of that.

Read from recent issues of TORQUE magazine brand new GL1800 priced only $35k!? I used to know that it is at least $42k, why sudden drop?

May I know where is GL1800 manufactured? If it is made in USA, then the drop of its price is more likely to be true b cos USD has dropped quite a lot agaisnt the S$ recently.

Most of it are produced in the USA. Perhaps that is the reason for the lower price. Better get one soon before the greenbacks rise again.

Dont think you can get at that price lah. Even is $35K it will mostky be bike price. + here & + there it will cost you more that $40K on the road. Otherwise a lot of my winger's friend have change their wing liao.

 

Pls let me know if you can get a wing at that price. You can check the price at either Mah or Looi's.

I have finally decided that I will go for the 2009 model. Heard that it comes with GPS. Sweeeeet!! Will go make some enquiries and probably book a unit at Boon Siew's in a few months time (in time for my wedding ). So excited!!!!
