Lorenzo holds top rookie status

Reigning double 250cc world champion Jorge Lorenzo held his top rookie status during Wednesday's second and final day of testing at Valencia.

The 20-year old Spaniard, who will officially join Fiat Yamaha in January as team-mate to Valentino Rossi, completed an impressive total of 86 laps on a 2008 prototype YZR-M1.

Although Lorenzo's best time of the day was set on a qualifying tyre, a lap of 1min 32.68secs - good enough for sixth in the unofficial standings - his best lap on a race tyre was also nearly one second faster than his Tuesday best.

Jorge thus finished his first MotoGPtest eleventh out of the 17 riders, 1.5secs from MotoGP world champion Casey Stoner and ahead of fellow 250cc graduates Andrea Dovizioso (14th) and Alex de Angelis (15th).

"Obviously I'm feeling much more comfortable and relaxed on the bike than I did yesterday, when everything felt very new!" said Lorenzo. "It's been good to have a full day to really concentrate on getting used to the bike and I've been feeling better and better throughout the day. The set-up we used today was more or less the same as yesterday, but today we worked mostly on tyres, because these are also new for me. I'm happy with what we've done at this first test and I very am pleased to be here. Now I am looking forward to next week when we will go to Malaysia and I will have another chance to learn more about the bike."

"Today we made some changes to the set-up and especially to the suspension, and these small changes together have made Jorge more comfortable," added Fiat Yamaha team director Masahiko Nakajima. "His lap times today have been very consistent and have gradually got faster, without making any steps backward, and this is very encouraging. Although a MotoGP bike is very new to him and he is only just beginning to learn about it, his lap times and data show he is adapting quickly and that the changes we have made are improving things for him. This is the feedback we need at this stage. His hard work over these two days has been much appreciated and we're very happy."

...And he's running on Michelins...

Toni was pretty impressive on his Desmo debut. Wondering if the Magneti Marelli TC allows him to powerslide the rear? Love his "counterleaning" hang off style.

IF Ducati Corse is not gonna be "pro-factory orders", I hope Toni will have a shot next year dicing upfront. Alex was ticked off the Ducati boss when he overtook Stoner for the 3rd during a race this year, and I feel Ducati Corse sucks.

We want to see satellite teams do well when they can, right?

Anyone against Colin Edwards infront of Valentino Rossi? Time to shoot

colin has finished infront of rossi at laguna before....a completely fair race.

just like pedrosa fighting for the front in 2006 when hayden was struggling to be champion....what everyone wants to see is a fair fight...

I have been waiting for a long, long time for #24 to shine. But he is a little too aggressive, hence the name 'Smiling Madman', and that costed him multiple injuries.

slowly, #26 is going ahead of #27... hopefully the numberical order can be restored..... but i know strongly #27 and #46 gonna be going at it again next year.

yammie has just confirmed that they will stick to inline 4 engine with about the same principles, and no pneumatic valves... i wonder where that leads to...

Colin infront of Rossi is still Fiat Yamaha.....I meant "Factory Orders", not "Team Orders". Yes, so far we seen Marco and Toni ahead of Repsol Hondas. No Tech 3 before Fiat Yamaha (Motegi should not count as conditions are hard and Rossi double pit), no extra Kawi or Suzzies to compete their own Factory Teams.

The ONLY time Alex Barros overtook Stoner to get to his only 1 podium in Italy, Ducati Boss Claudio Domenicali told Pramac owner Paolo Campinotti that it would not happen again. What is this? Is this not Factory Orders?

Alex Barros complaint that he did not have a dedicated suspension technician, plus the spare front fork is the one on his spare bike. But this, is the limitation of budget in Satellite teams.
