There's only one number..it is digital btw...cos just now i see the tyre also quite new..i ask..the boss said it is the original tyres and he said the previous owner doest not use the bike much as he bought a car.i also ask if he reset it but he said that meter cannot reset one..

Sorri ah i ask all this silly questions...but i'm just curious and anxious..

perhaps there's a button which allows you to toggle between tripmeter and odometer? Lots of cars with digital meters like the intruder's are like that.

Hmm..maybe i was looking at the tripmeter..anyway..i've being surfing this forum and searching for more info regarding intruder 125..

i realise there is not much threads about it.the only info i've gotten is that intruder 125 is a very problematic bike..the parts are very very limited/damn ex,there's nothing positive about it..even the top speed is only 100km/h from the specifications of the bike. From what i gather the only good thing about intruder is the look..that's all.

Now i am really worried..did i make a huge mistake in choosing intruder over daystar.I know it's no use as i i've already bought it. however i really need to know the truth so i can be ready..

One more thing..did i get conned when i paid 2.6k machine price for it.Actually the boss quoted 2.8k but i managed to bargain with him. Btw i bought the bike at Soon Fah Company Pte Ltd at 328 changi road.Anyone knows about this shop?

Bro, firstly, don't worry. Nothing bad has happened yet. Take things as they come. As a famous American president once said, "there's nothing to fear but fear itself." So don't worry so much.

That said, keep some money in your pocket. You will inevitably have to send your bike to a shop one day...regardless of brand/model/age. Buying a bike is always heng-suay - how much you spend depends on your luck.

You should PM luv_cruiser. Skarli the intruder you bought is his old one! He rode the Intruder 125 for many years, and knows a lot about this bike. He also knows of 2 mechanics who have extensive experience servicing the bike. I believe one of them used to own an intruder 125 himself. One of the mechs is Ah San, formerly of Sanfu. I don't know where he's working at now. There's a thread about this somewhere...just search "ah san" and I'm sure you'll find it.

I personally think 2.6K is a bit high. I think luv_cruiser traded his old Intruder 125 for half that price. Maybe even less, but around $1K. But I've never bought a bike by installments, nor have I seen Intruders 125 advertised. I don't know what the mkt price is.

I've already pm Luvcruiser..hope he can help me with my queries..

Any idea, how much money i should set aside for repairs?

Btw anything i could do to increase the top speed?.i think 100km/hr is a tad too low especialy on the expressway..i'll be happy with a top speed of 110km/hr.

I know that intruder 125 is japan made and it supposed to be of quality..then how come it is so problematic.i heard that the engine is not good..i'm confused.

Just a comment. Intruder 125 is of parallel import as the local agent Guan Hoe don't want to carry it due to low market demand. However, if you need any parts, you can still approach them. The bike itself is of V-Twin thus fuel consumption is higher than those of single cylinder cruiser alike. Problematic wise I have not heard of but it does takes a more significant repair on the engine as compare to single cylinder engine. Top speed wise, it is very dependable as the usual for a 125cc is around 115-120max on their speedometer. Maybe you can try out the top end again if it is hitting like what you have had mentioned 100km/h perhaps you can try checking sparkplugs, air filter, engine oil capacity and type which is the most likely culprits.

I agree with ultimax that the price is of a little high side considering that this bike model is of low demand and thus market value is not there. If you ever upgrade, you will lose out a lot. Try bargain with the shop again if you have yet to make any payment.

Money to set aside probably around $500. Not to scare you but parts from Japan is quite expensive. When I first bought my Magma, I was shocked that I have to fork out near $1K for repair and replacement of parts which I ended up trade in for god sake. But judging that you mentioned the bike is very new, probably there is nothing for you to spend on other than petrol and normal servicing.

Hi bro nights,

Thanks for the insightful comments.

Can share with me how to take care of a cruiser..as u mention from another thread..it is up to the rider riding habits and maintenance scheme.

What riding habits n maintenance points should i observe? Could u elaborate on that?

Oh ya..where should i fix my p plates..which place is the best? Can i use a sticker plate instead as i've seen some doing that.

Hi..i'm going down to view my bike..anything thing i should take note of before deciding to bring it home.

Bad riding habit in term of over dragging of gear, abrupt throttle application, braking hard and abrupt, over ride and etc....

Maintenance wise is of changing of engine oil, oil filter, air filter, sparkplug, battery and etc at appropiate duration/mileage achieved. All these can be check when you first servicing your bike at the bike shop with the mech. as they do varies from different bike model.

P-Plate should be visible in front and rear. Sticker plate is not that advisable but I have yet seeing anyone being fine for doing.

I suggest you secure the front plate between the forks, and the rear plate below the rear license plate.

Hi all,

Just an update, i went down but the bike is still not ready..then i ask the mech to start the engine..sounds good.No knocking sound..or cranking sound.

I then check the odometer and it is indeed 138km only. The mech said that the previous owner does not use the bike much as he already got a car.i would like to think that it is 138km only n not 99,999km + 138km :)

I also met with another intruder 125 owner there,he was servicing his bike.. he was also suprised that the mileage is 138km only..i then ask him if this bike is problematic..he said that he had been using intruder 125 for 5 years n the only thing he had to changed is the tires and belt n only do normal servicing every 3 mths.

Might be collecting it today.

it is important to fix your P plate at the collect position like ultimax been mentioned.

I was stoped by TP on expressway last month, and been told to fix the front plate

between the forks, and the rear plate below the rear license plate. or fine $120.- next time. :giddy:

dont play play.

Not to be a rotten apple, but for a 5 year old bike, 138km is an impossible.

Other than that, it's always good to prepare some money for things you cant expect.

From experience, bike can sound and look good. But you'll never know until it's been on the road a few days.

Within the first few days of riding:

. Keep a look-out for anything unusual.

. Check your engine oil regularly to ensure its not decreasing.

. Check for leaks under your bike after parked over night.

. Check tire pressure regularly to ensure that there's no puncture.

. Take a torch and 'explore' the under of your engine and around your engine to find any spots of oil or signs of leaking.

. Chain not rusty.

Leaks are the worse. Find them out before too late. Your bike could be running, but the oil might not be enough.

There are many things to look out for when buying a bike. Not many faults can be found out immediately. Always keep a look out for something not right.

For me, when i first got my bike, i went to my mech for a routine check-up. Changed the oil and plugs and try to find as many faults as possible. Some bike shop say they give you engine oil and plugs free when you buy the bike, but if i do not see them putting it in, i dont trust them.

Drop by Rosli when you're free.

Many things can only be found out through experience. But sometimes, you do not have to go through the hard way. There are many here in this forum who has 'been there, done that' but still learning, and always willing to help, but help is more often or not given to those who help themselves first.

After a whole lot of crap said, I would like to welcome you into the world of riding and the world of cruisers, and may you have many, many good times on your bike and many more bikes to come.

Ride safe.

Hi all, thanks for all your inputs.

To tell u the truth..i myself is sceptical about the mileage..it's like the previous owner just bought the bike for fun?Anyway to check if the speedometer had been changed?

Bro William Tan, who is Rosli and where can i find him?

almost impossible to do this because few owners will be willing to spend $ on a bike they want to sell. Especially when it won't definitely add more value to their bike. In fact, legally, you're not even allowed to test ride the bike!

Also, the mechanic will inevitably tell you that certain things will have to be replaced. It's hard to find a mechanic that won't try to BS and earn money from you. ANd even if he isn't out to make money, he'll probably tell you to change this and that just be safe. Which will put the seller in a tight spot. After all, he's selling a USED bike, not one that's brand new.

The owner isn't able to predict the future - he may have the ridden the bike without problem for 3 years, but if you're suay, it may break down 2 weeks after you buying it from him. Who's fault is it then? The seller didn't go out of his way to cheat you. You were just unlucky.

Don't assume bikes sold by shops have been checked out my mechanics. A friend bought a WR200 from a shop - it's airfilter was BLACK and covered with dirt when we checked a few weeks later. Another friend bought a NSR 150 from another shop. Part of the gear level fell off a few weeks later. The shop didn't even replace the lever when he brought the bike back to them. They simply replaced the missing part with a screw! My friend eventually had to buy a new lever.

The best thing you can do is to pray before you buy a bike :)

Might have to get it from Guan Hoe. Or check with LAB first. Buying an original replacement may not be worth your money.

I lost one of mine (screw was loose, piece dropped off) and ended up replacing the grips which had a bit a chrome at the end for $15.

Hi all,

It has been about 2 weeks since i had my bike..so far so good. except the speed.(top speed only 90km/h..even then had a hard time reaching that speed)...until the last few days..

I was going to stop at the traffic light but for some reason,i could not kick to gear 1 no matter how hard i try..i tried to move off using gear 2 but the move off was damn slow and it stalled..damn paiseh as cars are horning at me..luckily..there was a petrol station bout 30m..so i push my bike there.

There..i spend about 30 mins trying to figure out what's wrong(i have absolutely no mechanical knowledge)..i off and on the bike..check fuel..check engine oil..check chain..depressing the brakes while trying to kick the gear..kick n kick..finally it went to gear 1.

However now..each time i change the gear..there would always be a jerking motion..

What do y'all think..what's wrong with my bike?

I still have a free servicing left..should i just go to the shop and let them check..or should i go to another mech..namely Rosli..as the bros here say he's good..

Please give me your views..

the next time thath appens (hopefully it doesn;t), try moving your bike forwards slightly as you kick down.

you might also want to change your oil. If your bike wasn't serviced when you first bought it, now's the time.
