esso gold is fully syn.

if you ask me if the $5.50 2t is good...i'd say as long as it's 2t, it will lubricate ur engine. Once-upon-a-time, everyone uses whatever 2T they find, and the machine just keeps going. It's your take =)

and shell claims of better mileage..it's a marketing ploy. Like caltex petrol supposed to have little humans cleaning your pistons. hahaha

Um... you can't compare the cheap oils to the expensive ones Machine K... In my opinion buying good fully synth oil is worth the money...

If your engine is tuned, its a must... if not, then its just insurance.

Fully Synth oil has a higher temp threshold, meaning that it can deal with hotter engine temps before it breaks down (what happens when you get a seizure [piston jam[)... Tuned engines run hot... thus need better oil... stock engines don't NEED fully synth... BUT in the event that you are not jetted correctly, or suddenly develop an air leak (making you lean) the Fully Synth oil may well save you from having a seizure... Plus... using Fully Synth means your engine runs cleaner... which means you get much less carbon build up... meaning that your sparkplugs will last longer, and you can wait longer before having to decoke...

So yeah... use whatever oil you want... Just know why you use what you use!

Zen... people who use the battalax don't use tubeless rims... they use the normal spilt rims (two halves bolted together with an inner tube to inflate the tyre)....

The trick with these cheap tubeless rims is getting the old tyre off... not getting the new one on... IF you can cut the old tyre off (instead of using a machine) then the new tyre should go on (by machine) with little fuss... the metal bends less easily in that direction....

Petrol is Petrol.... high tech fuels only give benefits in high tech engines... Our scoot engines (as much as we love them) are far from being high tech... Use the cheapest petrol you can...

If stock use 92...

If modded use 95... only use 98 if you have compression in the 140-160psi range

Using a higher octane petrol than you need will waste your money and actually make your scooter run hotter than it should (as the engine has to work harder to compress the fuel before it will ignite)... The higher the octane, the more compression is needed before the fuel will ignite...

yup! Once i got on to CTE then it's easy. And so far i've pumped esso and shell 95. I do feel that shell last longer. Maybe it's all in the mind again. haha..

The 5.50 2T is syn blend. Esso low smoke.

kitted engine like pinasco/malossi is treated with nikasil to reduce friction hence low wear and also better heat conductivity. In a way, it's much protected against chances of seizure (provided u follow the 1:50 ratio)

Quite right.... but then, still not a reason to skimp on 2t... The alloy nicasil kits can deal with more heat... but they also generate more.... meaning you still need a good oil...

Yes weable... it is all in the mind...

of cos, syn oil are good. because every single drop is artificially created to do what a lubricant should do. Lubricate, clean, remove heat. And because it's artificially synthesized, the production is costly, hence the price u pay.

But before fully syn oil was created, mineral oil was used. Nothing too wrong with mineral oil also, but it was derived from crude oil, filtering/removing those particles (and whatever chemical substance) that wasn't good as a lubricant. Not all may be removed, pending on the requirements, hence some performance may be compromised.

So what is semi-syn?

it contains mainly mineral oil and (i read)

Just remember that whatever you pay for, is for the quality of oil, marketing efforts, packaging, brand, distribution network, taxes..etc

2cents worth

(derived after a period of reading up)

cheers!

haha agree that it does generate more heat, but seriously they are quite capable of handling that..unless we are pumping 3rd world petrol grade that has high sulphur content

Quite capable... really? If this is the case, why are fully synthetic oils produced in the first place... By that logic other race cylinders on other 2T machines don't need fully Synth either....

I know to use fully synth on a kitted machine both from experience and research...

Using it on a stock machine is a personal preference... knowing that it will run cleaner and be extra insurance.... Using on a kitted machine is a no brainer...

no lah..i know it will be better to use fully syn, relax..

what i'm trying to say is, dun feel too guilty on semi-syn =)

anyways, synthetic oil was created cos of lack of oil, during WWII. den they started to explore the performance part of syn oil

Not stressed... just need to make sure we're clear...

Sort of work...

Aha... :) He was there buying some fuses.... I had been blowing fuses due to my wiring being hooked up incorrectly after having the sidebox fixed... Whoever redid the connections confused two of the red wires which made the front signals not work and the battery not charge! Lucky my Fatherinlaw is an Electrical Engineer :) I would never have figured it out!
