Shouting out to all S4 experts and DIY gurus please advise this NOOB (me)

 

I have been having this problem with my bike. Sometimes when i clutch in at first gear, my engine will die off. Initially, I thought it was the clutch plate but it still happens after i have changed it.

 

It cannot be cold engine cos after i ride a distance and the bike is warmed up, it happens also, but not all the time.

 

When the bike is cold and i start it, after a while i went to feel the headers all were warming up evenly so i don't think it is the spark plugs.

 

Some told me to wash carb, some say air filter dirty, EO (elf full syn) another 2-3k more to change... could that be a cause of it too? Am really confused, What can be the problem?

 

Please advise...

not expert or guru, but might be either low idling, clutch cable or starter solenoid. there can be many reasons. might wanna get ah beng to check out ur problem.

Not guru nor expert but just to help..

Think time to change a battery?

Thought it might be carbon starter but you didn't encounter any difficulty in starting your bike.

Might be carb or air filter too.

Go and find your preferred 'doc' lor.Get it cured soon. :)

 

Oh... and remember to update us what's the problem and how it's rectified when it's done. Thanks.

SS, thanks for your feedback... Ah Di say clutch cable no prob, i just turn up the RPM a bit yesterday, so far so good... I'll KIV first, maybe when change EO then ask him to check again.

Thanks Fabian, don't think it is battery because it used to help jump start '46' a couple of times. So I am thinking since i can use it to jump start other bikes it should be healthy? Am i correct to say that?

 

I am suspecting it is air filter cos the engine get heated up quite easily. Will check that next EO change, but after i turn up the RPM, so far so good.

bike heating up nothing to do with air filter. Clogged air filter only affects the air/fuel mixture entering the combustion chamber, resulting in a a/f mixture that's too rich, in turn affecting your power.

 

Regarding the heating problem, few things will lead to that "problem". 1) using a thinner EO 2) low coolant level 3) faulty coolant pump(unlikely if no sign of overheating) 4) faulty cooling fan (again unlikely if no sign of overheat)

 

Try flushing your coolant ($15) and/or using a thicker EO.

Thanks man... more worried about the stalling engine when clutch in problem, not really worry about heating of the engine part, i remember coolant i change not too long ago..

 

Just now when I stop and clutch in at the traffic, i saw the RPM drop to almost 0 and engine almost died, then i throttle a bit it was back to normal... This is weird cos it was never like this before...

Funny thing is when i take it to this bike shop in eunos and ask them to troubleshoot for me, they just keep reving, took it out for ride open V-tec, come back and tell me no prob... sigh... what's wrong with my baby... :cry:

Since the club house is unavailable this CNY, and location for CNY gathering (if any) this year is still undecided, I am pleased to inform that license to operate a gambling den at my residence have been approved.

 

Date: 16 Feb 08 (Saturday)

Venue: 0re0’s humble residence (addy TBA via sms)

No,wat i mean is dat when i'm clutch-in to shift to gear 6...then the engine dies...this symptom ON & OFF like dat..sometimes happen,sometimes ok...

 

wash carb i cant remember la how much....float also for super4 i donno how much...u might want to ask those expert.....

TPS problem !! :angel: (j/king la,only yamaha had TPS problem)

 

i think u adjust ur idleing can le. the idleing too low, thats y when u coming to a stop, the engine will die off.
