Bros, question on which other bikes front rim can fit a steed's?

I am looking for a 'sports' rim for my front rim. Any suggestions?

If I change to a 18 inch rim and tyre, how will performance be affected? better FC because smaller rim radius?

I am looking at the Honda Magna 250 front rim to see if it fits a Steed. The 250 rim is a three shaft design and not steel spookes. therefore quite sporty look to match my VSE steel plate rim. The Magna 250 front tyre is also thicker, but I am not sure of the rim size. If it is smaller than Steed, than cant use liao.

Hey Troy. thebikeyard replied my e-mail already.. Quoted $50 for the old headlamp.. I think it's ex cos he quoted me $20 for a pair of old rider footpegs!! Think we go scrapyard find beter, cos this wan like more highclass..

I haven't monitor the FC for normal city riding yet.. But I've beer riding from

Tamp to Tuas and back the past few days and FC for 90% highway riding is 27.2km/l on Shell 92 cruising at 90-100km/h..

Maybe can check the wheel spacing first.. If it's the same then got to see if the brake disc is align with the caliper.. A few years back a fellow forumer modded his Shadow slasher and put on the wheels and brakes from his R1.. That was really sick.. With help from Rosli of cos..

Actually FC will be about the same.. You'll think that your getting better FC cos with the smaller wheel your odometer will clock more km compared to stock wheel.. if you change wheel size you got to change the speedometer also.. alternatively you can use a bicycle digital speedometer as you can calibrate the wheel size on it..

There's a rim with the exact dimensions that'll fit but I guess its damn hard to find, 1 fellow forumer had it on his Steed, but sold it recently. I've tried looking ard for it, but to no avail.

Here's the pic, courtesy of MR.ROBERT YU:

http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f331/sixandnine/steed1.jpg

& yes, any change of dimension of the rim affects the mileage clocking and also handling, but FC wise, is abt the same, almost negligible.

Terrible One:

I think you can bargain with ppl there @ bikeyard. Cos I've been there for stuffs for my Steed, after seeing the items I needed, + told them my budget, compromise here & there, & got what I wanted.

But I feel, bikeyard's quantity may not be as much as ah ann's, but he'll give the better quality despite the pricewise.

Bro keep us posted.. it seems rather strange that steed vse is 1/2 sports rim 1/2 traditional spokes rim.

Another not so gd alternative is to buy rim 'covers' to conceal the spokes. Have not found a place that sells this.

My idea is that as long as the rim/ tyre thickness does not exceed the current stock one by too much & diameter is + - 1 inch, can fit with modifications.

Abt the water seeping into fuel cap problem, I used 'hard foam' that I cut out from a gift packaging + 3M doublesided tape.

I did it more for hiding the paintwork that wasn't well done at the fuel cap area, but I hope can also block out some rain water from seeping in.

Hey guys

I was washing my Steed today then I realise that there is a kind of fan fixed behind my radiator. Do you guys have that fan on your Steed too?

Its not running when I start the engine...is it suppose to run when the engine starts, or it runs only when it reaches a high temperature?

Thanks.

It runs when it's high temperature. You can add a one of switch for it when it gets too hot during traffic jams. Best when your temperature hits near the red line. But you need a temp guage to monitor. But otherwise you can leave it alone, it seldom overheats, except when you leave your engine running at causeway jams.

Has anyone welded their pipes before? My mech says got leakage due to corrosion, common problem with our bike cos so old already.. Does Rosli do welding? My uncle who rides a Shadow 400 told me sometime back that he did it for $50+, but forgot to ask him where.. And does anybody know the bearing size for the front and rear wheel?

As for the fan, I read somewhere that if the fan doesn't run it's prob due to a faulty temp sensor.. I saw mine ran before but it's rarely on..

I did mine @ planet. But have to see if its suitable cos, like mine, it was just @ the link to the muffler.

Chong had told me that the corrosion was quite bad, trying luck to see if can weld.

Luckily, it was possible, & the patch was made.

Forgot hw much it set me back as I did some other stuffs there too.

But then, it sounded nice when it was open, & abit powerful too(yah I noe, just my mind thinkin too much... :p)

So, when it was patched back, the bike sounds more silent.

Oya, you can DIY to see if the fan's working, gota trace the wiring, unplug it, extend a wire from positive(+) to batt, negative(-) to body & the fan shld turn on. If it doesnt, means it's time to source for a new sensor or worse, fan.

Another long way, is to ride the whole day, & maybe get in a jam w/o weaving.

Sure turn on if it's good working order...

Else, if its workable via DIY, it means the coolant is doing its work. :thumb:

save your $50..diy

use epoxy steel eg araldike..ask for engineering grade(if available)

best is to use it with a fine mesh steel sieve..

clean area..i will use rusk converter and pacify all rusty areas..

cut fine mesh sieve to the required size..

apply the thoroughly mix epoxy on to the exhzust holes area..

apply epoxy on the sieve both sides..anyway once ypou spread it on the sieve the epoxy will coat the sieve on both side..

press this epoxy/sieve on to affected area...smoothen epoxy making sure sieve is coated with it 101%.

to hold sieve in place i will wrap a plastic strip say 1 inch wide , around the pipe..viola in ten minutes it will set..and in 1 hour 95% CURED..(remove plastic strip)take it for a test ride..or just start engine and confirmed...repair as neccessary...

good luck

if steel sieve not availble..

use gauze..thats right those stuff that u use as awrap for burns etc..it will do as well..

the step a bit different..

apply mixed epoxy on affeted area and on a strip of gauze..wrap the gauze with the epozy in it 3 times round pipe..touch up and make sure the epoxy covers the circumference of pipe..

the finish product will be stronger than the original pipe.

For your infor..this is the method i always use to repair holes in pressure vessel..

yes.. you will be surprise even in boilers on an temporary/emergency basis,

but what if the corrosion is that bad that with a slight knock, the metal'll break off? Will this method possible to apply?

a 5mm dia hole can be repaired this way...unless the pipe is corroded beyond repair even by welding..

this is good for repairing holes and not to replace section of pipe..

Hmmm... IC... o_O

Hi hi...Bros of Steed...For the NBW, there's 2 options...Option #1 - ride over on Friday evening and get our bikes washed by them sexy bike wash girls and then we enjoy the event on a cool Friday evening....or.....Option #2 - ride over on Saturday evening and just enjoy the event on a cool Saturday evening....

If you notice, i didn't put in the afternoon National Convoy coz, most of the riders that always ride with me are No.1 Working, No.2 Available after 6pm and No.3 Prefer to ride in the cool evening weather....So do let me know which option is best for you, my Steed Bros...

Anyone had their plug caps changed? I experienced engine stall last nite when moving off in 1st gear, started twice then engine fires. o_O

This mrg, super duper heavy rain, engine stalls again, tried starting desperately after dont-knw-how-many starts, switched to reverse tank (i tot maybe it was), engine fires. :( Move to the traffic lights about 100m away n stalls again. Tried starting again, after 3 starts, engine fires, moves off with hesitation... :faint:

Sent my steed to my mech, he said 2 of the plug caps faulty, put on a dont-knw-wic-bike caps, ask me to try n c how. Now so far ok...

What a day for my steed... :sian:

Any advise, Steed Bros?

bought 2 NGK ceramic spark plug cap( with 10k ohm resitor in it) for $20..

this cap is ceramic ..not insulated by rubber compared to some normal cap.

fit quite well..reuse the rubber cover over the cap,,

bike runs louder..maybe i am imagining ..

have experienceing stalling bike on wet roads especially when at traffic signals..

decided to change notice that one spark cap is leaking..and the other broke when i tried to remove it..

why you change only 2 plug heads when steed uses 4 plugs?

Actually I think this method will work for my pipes cos it's the inside that's leaking.. Outside perfectly fine..

i replace the plug caps..not plugs

i change 2..steed riders will understand ....those i changed were those in a deep hole..haahahha and sealed with a rubber cover...these are under alot of sress..just imagine your cap is in a hole in the engine and covered..hoho

thst the reason even ceramic cap can breakup when u try to remove it..

the other 2 plugs have all the fresh air they need ...and in preety good condition..

To change the spark plug caps you need to remove your fuel tank?
