Hi all, 2day go change some wear n tear parts. Vesrah(Look brandless 2 me) rear brake shoe $55, Brandless air filter $45, Spark plug Ngk R $5ea.

 

Was told japan front brake pad $25, org cone bearing $85, Wash carb $45.

Wana check any bro here have de-silence e exhaust? Done on 1 or both exhaust? Inspection pass? Any uncle sam stop u?

 

 

2 ways to do this

 

Will fail LTA inspection

 

Take a hole saw and install it in a drill. Cut out the metal surrounding the muffler (the smaller tube inside the exhaust pipe).

 

Take a wooden rod, stick it into muffler. Move it around until the welds break.

 

Use a pair of pliers to remove it.

 

 

This will guarantee you much louder exhaust signature. Jettings will have to be adjusted. Fuel consumption may increase slightly, but you will have more power. Logic is exhaust fumes exit engine quicker because there's no muffler to slow it down, more fuel and air gets injected into the engine quicker, therefore more power but higher consumption

 

However, this mod is obvious.

Go to a hardware store and buy a 12 inch drill bit. Yes, 12 inches long! The bigger the diamter, the louder the sound. But I think the usual size is the diameter of your little finger. You won't be able to find such drill bits for metal, only concrete/stone/masonry. I've seen these for about $5 at Homely Hardware @ Paya Lebar.

 

Install it in a power drill, and insert the long bit into the muffler. Apply pressure and drill. You will need to lean into it as this bit is not designed for metal, but stone. Make sure your bike is stable.

 

The exhaust signature is louder, with a deeper thump thump thump. But not so loud as to attract attention.

 

My friend did this and has passed inspection several times.

Mine previous owner requested to knock through ALL the silencer plates in the original exhaust. Sound not obvious wen cruising but can be heard when accelerating. Y'day got WRXed Uncle Sam on TPE purposely drive beside me at 90km/h. Look see look see but finally sped off.. Phew! Don't think it's an issue as long as you don't purposely blow throttle when riding next to uncle sam. My old steed also knocked but never got stopped before... In fact never got stopped when rode XR350, Super 4 vtec 1 both with opened/ knocked silencer, Vespas with copper pipe and emptied tong....All passed inspection, and I send for inspection myself so no worries unless you changing to fishtail or slash cut, then too obvious! Niwei, bike shops shld have the long metal rod to whack into the exhaust, dun see the need to buy a 12 inch drill bit. Risk pushing the bike forward, end up paying for new paintwork, signals, etc...

Went to K&T today and clifford adjusted the fuel air mixture.. He noticed that the idling not constant (exhaust sound no rhythm) so that could be the cause... Checked plugs and air filter no problem. Now testing bike and idling seems to follow a constant rhythm. Only when hit reserve then will know... Your engine dies every morning when you first start? Must hold throttle to prevent stalling till the engine warms up? Mine has that problem. hopefully tomorrow morning problem solved on starting... :cheer:

Good info for fellow steed VLX/ VLS riders! Went to Sungei kadut scrapyard looking for a steed front fender and found not one, but TWO VSE rims lying there! comes complete with swing arm and gantung... one is quite good condition while the other not too bad either.. quoted me $450 for each..U want must go with lorry to carry.. Asked if can exchange but the guy say cannot, only selling... Anyone got gd condition front fender preferably silver? Mine a bit outta shape cos think previous owner accident before, that's why my bike colour quite the dull.... And got nice RED tank there as well, think it came from a springer...

Hey Sprint74. I had my exhaust modded at a bikeshop. It's like u said. When cruising, not obvious. The sound's only obvious when throttling in.

 

But my exhaust ends show obvious signs of 'welding'. Plus I'm not yet qualified to be an ah pek for them to close one eye. Can still pass?

I dun think my exhaust went thru any welding.. mine was probably hit in by a metal rod which looked like a spear. Anyway. as long you don't send to LTA for inspection then shld be no problem, my experience, VICOM and STA quite good... Say, "You buy like that oledi and maybe accident hit from behind before and no orig exhaust in shops anymore" or you can tell that you wanted to get the 'rainbow' colours on your exhaust like the Yoshi Firespec..:angel: Surely pass one...A friend of mine rode the 'ol skool VF750 with 2x Vance and Hines exhaust many yrs back still passed cos he said cannot find orig exhaust anymore and his was corroded beyond repair.. :cheeky:

ONe more thing, when checking exhaust, open throttle SLOWLY and don't BLAST....heeeee

If you fail at one centre, try another :)

 

Some inspectors are quite particular. Last year when I sent my Steed for inspection, the inspector insisted that I remove the pipe wrapping which I had done around my entire pipe. He said there's no way he can tell whether the pipe is still in good condition, or whether it has been tempered with. To his credit, he was polite, but firm. He even asked his supervisor. So I had to comply, and removed the wrapping.

 

Personally, I wouldn't worry about your exhaust situation. As long as it passes the volume test, and looks stock, it should pass.

 

You could try camouflaging the welds with kiwi :)

How come hah???

 

Could be the leaking vacuum hoses...

How time flies...

 

Big is certainly a warning but small can be downright scary! Never underestimate the effectiveness of small.

No lost in power is just that sudden slow down engine cease. Not sure whether mod on e pipe affected anot? Before i do servicing my top only 120km/h. Now not yet try out. Will update here again.

Anyone knows where to customize hard saddlebag bracket in SG?

 

I bringing in saddlebag from overseas and wanna make the bracket for it in SG.

 

I know there are ready bracket such as easy bracket or ghost bracket, but shipping those in are too expensive for me.

Becoz I have seen alot of bikes with cutomise bracket (I think so la). I went to first motor, they make customise hard bags, and i guess their bracket also custom made. dunnoe if i should go back there to ask.

hmm first motor brackets alone will be in e range of 400. where r u getting ur hardbags from? if u haf budget i'll highly recommend tsukayu. brackets included n free shipping to sg.. cost me 659USD for e largest fibreglass hardbags w leather wrapping..
