Hur hur.. im not going to tell how to pump diesel into our tank.. I know most of you would come to this thread thinking, WOAH! i would love that! But i don't know la.. u've just been cheated. lol..

Im here to ask why cant we use diesel-operated engine on our ride? It will be much more cheaper to own a bike

Is there such thing as a diesel-operated engine? I know taxis runs on diesel, why not make it the same for all the cars/bikes?

Why is there petrol anyway...

If use diesel operated bikes, it would be super smoky. And i haven seen any bikes that run on diesel.

The difference is in the method of combustion. Petrol engines use spark to ignite for combustion whereas diesel engines compress air to a sufficiently high temperature to ignite diesel fuel. Naturally diesel engines are operated at much higher pressure so engineering wise they tend to be heavier and bulkier. Furthermore it's technically difficult to have a small engine capacity. Which is why you don't find them on small platforms such as motorbikes and boats (Outboard motors, [OBM]). The smallest diesel OBM available is 40hp while for petrol OBM, it can be as small as 3hp.

The most famous production diesel motorbike is the KAWASAKI M1030 M1 for the US Marines. It is a commercial off the shelf (COTS) Kawasaki KLS 650, modified for military use.

wow. informative read on difference on petrol and diesel engine.

well done!!

So basically if "accidentally" pump diesel, the bike will get any symptoms so bad that need to scrap? say start 2 min then realise "**** i pump wrong". will hong gan?

I doubt it will run at all. Petrol uses octane rating... how much the petrol can resist combusting before the spark plug fires.

Diesel fuel is the exact opposite. It uses a cetane rating to tell you how quickly it will combust under pressure.

For a petrol powered engine the carburator or fuel injection mixes the air and petrol before it enters the cylinder. Then the mixture is compressed and the spark plug fires.

For diesel, only fresh air is drawn into the cylinder. Then at the top of the compression stroke the diesel fuel is injected into the cylinder. The heat of compression causes it to fire.

Diesel is cheaper mostly because of taxes. It does cost less to produce than petrol, but not by much. If more people used diesel the price would rise because a larger percentage of a barrel of oil would need to be 'cracked' for diesel.

diesel is not always cheaper than petrol... i lived in sydney and petrol is cheaper than diesel there. similar situation in melbourne and canberra but not sure about other parts of australia. in NZ's north island (from auckland down to wellington, etc), petrol is also cheaper than diesel... not sure about south island o_O

may all be well and happy

not to mention you probably wouldnt have a nice engine sound... imagine ur gixxer or r1 sounding like trucks...

When you hear the noise made by a Volvo Penta sterndrive, it will change your perception that all diesel engines sound like trucks. :)

I am not privileged to know the pricing mechanism of petrol and diesel, but in South Africa, diesel costs more than petrol, and despite that, turbo diesel (TDi) cars, such as BMW, Benz, VW are very popular there. :)

I am more interested in the multifuel engine that the youtube video demon featured. runs on petrol, diesel or kerosene? woo.

one day the entire world will run on renewable bio-fuel. that is when the oil cartels finally crumble.
