Movie Review On 'The 40 Year Old Virgin'

 

This is a heartwarming, funny movie about exactly the title of the movie. The lead's quest to get deflowered draws the laughter as he gets from one awkward situation to another. His friends' guidance and effort to 'help' him tend to backfire on him. Great movie but unsuitable for kids due to the adult theme presented. I can't really relate to the story as I am conservative but you'll cheer the lead character on and laugh at his antics nonetheless. Watch it regardless whether you are a virgin or not to come to the realization that being a virgin is really not a big deal at all.

Movie Review On 'The Myth'

 

This movie explores the possibility of past lives, reincarnation and love that transcends time. The setting and plot of the story are part Indiana Jones and part Hang Tuah. The plot is revealed through archeologist Jackie Chan's flashbacks of a past life where he was a general in the Qing dynasty who fell in love with the princess he was supposed to escort to his emperor. Actionwise not as impressive as Chan's past movies as age seem to be catching up on our favourite action star. However, the movie is still good enough to watch.

Movie Review On Sha Po Lang (SPL)

 

The question of whether it is acceptable for cops to take the law into their own hands to rid society of the scum of the earth is explored in the action packed movie 'Sha Po Lang'. Donnie Yuen and Samo Hung reversed roles as the good and bad guy respectively. Plot is intriguing as the CID unit of the Hong Kong police lead by Simon Yam, tries all means and ways to bring down mob boss, Samo, to the extent of framing him when all legal ways failed. The fight scenes by Samo and Donnie are fast and furious. Not to be outdone is another knife weilding henchman of Samo whose fighting moves are extremely impressive. After many movies playing the bad guy, Donnie shows his acting capabilities by proving that he is able to portray a good guy as well. The same goes for Samo who is known for his good guy roles, playing the villain this time. For action fights movie buffs, this movie is a must-see.

Movie Review On 'King Kong'

 

Peter Jackson's 'King Kong' though adheres to the original storyline, has been given a spectacular dose of special effects and cinematography. Watching the scene where the characters run in between the legs of dinosaurs to escape from being eaten had left me breathless. For those of you who thought the fight between King Kong and a giant serpent in the earlier version is impressive, you should see the fight that takes place between King Kong and three T-Rexes in this latest version as it will leave you awestruck. Two thirds of the movie takes place at Skull Island where King Kong resides and the last one third of the movie, in the city. The inhabitants of Skull Island are really freaking scary with their looks and uncivilised behaviour that a horror spin-off could be develop just based on them. However, I do have one gripe with this movie. After sedating King Kong, Peter Jackson did not show how the crew of the ship manage to transport the huge beast onto their ship which is out at sea. Other than this small detail, this movie really is worth watching.

Movie Review On 'The Descent'

 

'The Descent' tells the story of how a group of female good friends plunges into mass hysteria and panic when they got lost while exploring an undiscovered underground cave. What is first thought as an adventure turns into a nightmare when they realize that they are not alone in the caves. Rationality fall by the wayside as paranoia takes over, resulting in several unexpected events taking place. The movie offers plenty of shocking suspenseful moments that will leave you gripping the edge of your seats. Though this movie is helmed by several unknown actresses, their acting is superb and credible. Predictable ending but to get there is one claustrophobic journey of terror.

Movie Review On 'The Devil's Rejects'

 

'The Devil's Rejects' traces the hunt for America's most depraved serial killer family, the Firefly. The local sheriff has made it a personal vendetta to eradicate them from the face of the earth after his brother fell victim to them. The question of whether it is justifiable for the sheriff to take the laws into his own hands to get rid of the scum of the earth is again explored in this movie, similar to the situation in 'Sa Po Lang'. However, the antagonists in this movie is in a league of their own, nothing like Samo Hung's mob boss character in 'Sa Po Lang'. The way the maniacal Firefly family gleefully and nonchalantly kills their victims makes you wonder if humanity is already dead. This movie contains lots of blood and gory scenes that will make you cringe with disgust and horror. Definitely not recommended for the faint at heart.

MOVIE REVIEW ON 'CHICKEN LITTLE'

 

The 'Chicken Licken' tale has been given a new twist in Disney's new animation 'Chicken Little'. Just like in 'Finding Nemo', the themes of trust and relationship between father and son are explored in this movie. The animal characters are colourful and hilarious that I kept laughing throughout the duration of the movie. However, the plot of aliens coming down to earth is rather similar to Tom Cruise's 'War Of The Worlds'. Nonetheless, it is still funny as the characters try with much bravado to put things right to what seems to be a major misunderstanding. A touch of nostalgia is also added through the soundtrack that features songs from the 60's and 70's. Plus, I just love the trailer that features Chicken Little dancing to the song Dragonstea Din Dei by Ozone. An extremely entertaining movie that is best watched with the family.

Movie Review On 'SAW 2'

 

'SAW 2' follows up from where SAW left off. Jigsaw, the highly intelligent serial killer has enslaved a new group of people in a house. They will be released in three hours but the catch is, the house has been filled with slow killing poisonous gas that can end their lives in two hours. The captives are able to escape if they manage to solve the puzzles Jigsaw left behind throughout the house. The downside is, those puzzles are booby trapped and one wrong move is what separates them from being a live worm or a dead duck. Though suspenseful, SAW 2 is not as great as the first movie, SAW. The twist in the end is not as impactful as its predecessor. The blood and gore via torture devices formula should keep one glued to the screen. If you like the first movie, no harm watching this sequel.

Movie Review On 'Four Brothers'

 

Revenge and redemption are the main themes presented in 'Four Brothers'. Four adopted brothers (2 white & 2 black guys) return to their hometown when their adopted mother was gunned down in cold blood. What appears to be a robbery murder case turns out to be otherwise when the brothers investigated. The banter among the brothers is hilariously funny as they poke fun at one another. The way these guys outwitted the local mob boss and a corrupt police detective towards the end of the movie is a gem and a joy to watch. A definite must see movie as this movie proves that even though the colour of their skins is different, the bond of brotherhood & the need to avenge their mother's death, overrides everything else.

Movie Review On 'The Skeleton Key'

 

The world of hoodoo (an extension of voodoo) is explored in the movie 'The Skeleton Key'. Kate Hudson plays a stay-in nurse who discovers an attic that is filled with hoodoo stuffs in the house where she takes care of a helpless old man. The old man's wife claims that her husband became paralysed due to a stroke but Hudson thinks that there is more to it than meets the eye. Plot is intriguing as the suspense slowly builts up from scratch. Not everything is as simple as it seems to be. Once the story reaches its climax, you'll be awed as you finally figure out the last piece of the puzzle to this engrossing movie.

Movie Review On 'Rebound'

 

Martin Lawrence plays a famous college basketball coach who gets suspended when he fails to control his temper and manhandles the referee in his his latest movie, 'Rebound'. In order to get back into the limelight, he 'volunteers' to train a group of loser high school basketball players. Through them, he finally rekindles his passion for the game. He also realizes that fame and fortune are not everything in the pursuit of happiness and fulfilment. A so-so movie that is neither that funny nor inspirational though it tries hard to be. Watch only if you are a diehard Martin Lawrence fan.

Movie Review On 'Heebie Jeebies'

 

If you are looking for a great horror movie, 'Heebie Jeebies' is definitely NOT the movie to watch. The story is about a girl who gathers her high school friends together to protect them from getting killed. How does she know? She dreamt of them being killed one by one and her dreams have the tendency to come true. The whole movie is just plain ridiculous right from the start. The reason why the killer became a killer is just too ludicrous to me. The acting is amateurish which is understandable as all the actors and actresses are unknown. There is a story within a story technique that confuses rather than explains the main plot. There is no effective use of music to heighten the suspense so at the supposedly scary parts, the impact falls flat. Just don't bother to watch this movie if you do not wish to waste an hour and a half of your life.

Movie Review On 'Wedding Crashers'

 

Vince Vaugh & Owen Wilson are hilarious as two guys who gatecrash weddings and charm the female guests just to bed them in 'Wedding Crashers'. However unexpectedly, the two fall in love and find their future wives at one of the weddings. The banter between Vince & Owen though rather crude, will tickle your funny bone. Definitely a movie for guys as the tricks to ensure that women fall at their feet are presented and funnier how easy those women are convinced. An all's well that end's well kind of movie.

Movie Review On 'Stealth'

 

Technology superceding mankind is shown in action-packed movie, 'Stealth'. Jessica Biel, Josh Lucas & Jamie Foxx star as elite USA pilots that fly the state of the art stealth fighter jets. However, the artificial intelligence which is planted into a stealth fighter jet, develops a mind of its own when a lightning strike haywires its system. Though the advance technology seems unbelievable, the aerial assault scenes and special effects make up for a somewhat lacklustre plot. Never underestimate the power of machines because this jet whose thinking skills progresses to human emotions, is the saving grace in this movie.

Movie Review On 'The Transporter 2'

 

Jason Statham is back again in 'The Transporter 2'. This time, he takes on the job of a family driver that clashes head on with a group of terrorists for hire when the kid in the family is kidnapped by them. Plenty of adrenaline rush action that borders on the impossible and defies logic. It is as though in this movie, nothing can overcome the hero as he dodges machine gun bullets, defeats hordes of bad guys single-handedly and saves the day. Watch this and just enjoy the spectacle. Don't pay too much attention to the plot and immerse yourself in the action instead. I did.

Movie Review on 'Wolf Creek'

 

Beware when you accept help from a stranger if you are stuck in the middle of nowhere in the Australian outback. He may just be a sick, demented serial killer. This is the plot of 'Wolf Creek', a movie that is slow in it's build up but once it reaches its element, it will literally make you cringe in horror and shock at the killer's morbid, nonchalant killing ways. His perverse pleasure in killing made me sick to my stomach. This is definitely not a movie for the faint hearted.

Movie Review on 'The Legend Of Zorro'

 

Being a folk hero can be hazardous to a marriage as presented in the movie 'The Legend Of Zorro'. In spite of all Zorro's heroics, his marriage suffers as worrying for his safety takes a toll on his wife. Besides, going out saving the people is preventing him from spending valuable quality time with his son. Now, Zorro has to save America from total destruction by a diabolical French count and save his marriage at the same time. Lots of swashbuckling action and sword fighting. Entertaining movie that makes you want to cheer the hero on.

This is one of the best action chinese movie I had seen in years.

Good martial art choreograph, see the fight scene between Donnie Yen and Wu Jing (China national wushu champion) and you will understand.

 

Worth every cent in collecting the DVD.

Just watch the DVD this morning.

Even more grusome than the previous part.

Watched until I had to pause the movie for a while to absorb the horror of the tortures.

Watch the scene when Amanda gets thrown into the pitch of needles and you will understand.

The nice twist at the end was really unexpected from me.

Don't think Amanda can carry it well if there is a part 3.

i love harold and kumar but i dun enjoy zoolander at all(and starsky and hutch)... ben stiller seems to try too hard sometimes..ANYWAY personal preference

starsky was bad. real bad. but not zoolander. againm personal preference.
