This amateur-ish review was posted on Apr 6 2004, mostly comparing to the 954.

...

Monday, I took delivery of my baby. I appreciate Thunder for staying back to change the engine oil for me after my high rev run in.

This bike sounds good indeed. I can never get enough of it. It sounds like a muscle car with a huge airbox. Downshifting is a pleasure, the sound of the engine grunting, gulping for air ...

The cassette gear box is a huge improvement over the 954. I never miss a shift. But there's $100 mod to fix the gear shift on the 954 I heard.

The throttle is less sensitive than the 954 for sure. On the 954, you twitch it, it jumps, not on the RR4. Some may say it's not as responsive, but it's a matter of getting used to. Open her up, you'll be guaranteed a smooth power delivery, almost too smooth. You'll need a little getting used to if you're jumping from a 954 to a RR4.

Reviews said it's not as flickable as the 954. I don't think so. I've been riding the 954 for a year, when I got on the RR4 and did a flick, I found out it was more than willing to accomodate. Maybe they had the Diablos on. I can't remember which mag I read, but when they said it's not as flickable, I strained my eye and saw the RR4 wearing rubbers from "hell". But it seems they produce more hp on the dyno than the 014. Well, take your pick.

The RR4 does inspire more confidence in corners than the 954. Every reviewer said so. My first corner made me think out loud! "Those sonuva b!tch35 were right"! Even on new tires!

Street riders (like all of us) will be please to know that it's not as hot riding it in the traffic. Probably it's the plastic tank cover. I don't get heat rashes on my inner thighs like I did on the 954. Although the temp did go up to 110 dc. On the 954, it only reached 102 dc. Good news for guys who wants to have kids. Out of the traffic, the temp goes down pretty quickly. The larger radiator comes to play here.

...

Actually I have to thank those good folks at Mah. On Monday, they did the registration, road tax, insurance ... all in a couple of hours so I can get it by 5pm.

The RR4 does feel more refined. It's like a rally car being taught how to behave with good manners.

The Unit Pro suspension is simply amazing. Everytime I come out of the car park, I go over a pavement that has lots of "goose pimples". On the 954, my skull feels like it's vibrating my face out of alignment. Not on the RR4, the bumps are really not transferring to the frame.

The sharp buzz from the handle bar is gone on this machine. It's lower in amplitude, hands don't get numb as soon as the 954.

Although it's heavier than the 954, it sure doesn't feel so. On the 954, after a fill up, the top of the tank feels heavier. But because of all the niceties Honda has done with mass centralization, the RR4 doesn't feel topsy at all.

...

Actually a lot of people have been asking me about the steering damper.

How do you test it? Induce a tank slapper?

It's unobtrusive, I can't feel it, but that's how it should be. When my glove's velcro strap came loose yesterday while riding, I released the handle bar and adjusted it. To my surprise, it felt more stable than the 954 while doing the "look ma, no hands". The stability can really be felt. I can let go longer, and was tempted to do the macarena even. (insert emoticon doing macarena here)

HESD at work? You bet!

OK la, gotta go KL! Have a nice weekend.

...

This bike has since gone to KL once, and another KL - Ipoh trip.

The running in is 500km compared to 1000km on the 954, probably due to improvements in engine manufacturing process.

It's on fully syn oil now. Power delivery is quicker and smoother, cold starts require less cranking compared to the mineral oil.

Hope you find this info helpful ...

...

Finally a pic of my previous 954 being washed by my georgeous nephew. Girls, pls stand behind the yellow line. :help:

Think her link is down.

Cant see the bike washing pictures, but here's a glimpse on how the washer looks like.

Her website pictures is more artistic.

She even have her own forum.

Ken, I am totally shocked with the fact that you could even brazenly suggest that she could wash our bikes. If our fellow 1000RR riders get to know of this suggestion of yours... there will an uprising of some sort.

I cannot imagine what it would be like to have a long fingers caress my bike.

Look at her fingernails. It is bound to scratch the beautiful paintwork on my bike.

NO way I will allow her near my bike. She could beg and promise me anything.. but I will not allow her to wash my bike. There comes a point in time when a man has gotta make a stand for himself. Not unless she clips her nails.

I am very sure that Tashi and Chilly share the same sentiments.

Riding that Repsol replica is already pushing the limits of my normally conservative outlook on life. Never in my years of owning bikes did I ever own one of such a colour scheme. My favourite colours are gun metal blue or mustard yellow.

I am basically a Levis 501 jeans, high cut Timberland track shoes and t-shirt person who rather dress for comfort than anything else. Formal function wear to me is a pair of clean jeans, same Timberland shoes... T-shirt and a jacket. I don't even own a tie.

I cannot imagine myself wearing those gloves although I will agree they look kinda neat. Heheh.

I guess these sorta gals, we dun hafta intro you. When are you getting the VVIP to join us for a ride? I wanna see how tough she is when she's on your bike, and you're chasing Ideal's tail light. Heheh.

Chilly, a few shops to the right, and I had the best maggi mee goreng, better than anything I've tried.

Ken, forget about studying, go write pr0n literature instead. Only you can think of such a phrase, "blood circulating graphics."

I've been wearing only Timberland shoes for the past 4 or 5 yrs. Now I seem to think they suck. So slippery when ground is wet. Have to be exremely cautious when on bike and pushing it around. Is yours ok?

Marina has a Timberland shop that's closing, shoes are going dirt cheap.

Like tyres, the material of the soles age harden over the years and therefore lose their ability to grip.

The Timberland I wear are actually meant for trail trekking, not those deck shoes type.

Raptor, are those women a pilot?

Dun believe they wear combat boots to fly.

Must be some advertisement photos to attract young man to join the Air Force?

Do not shun away from changes.

Different clothing style create different emotions.

You might just enter another chapter in your life.

Like u said(or someone said), "Life is short, play hard."

Tashi, i had finished my exams!!~

Yes Ken, those are female fighter pilots and they fly with combat boots on, in fact it is steel toe capped. I have met them before... so sweet, so ladylike, till they get into the jets and then they kick ass and take down names!!!

And I like women in combat boots too...they can stomp on me, whahhahahahaha!!!

If you serious about Iranian food... I can arrange for next weekend. But do confirm though.
