Hi guys, may I know if the following mod is feasible? Wondering why nobody wanna do cafe mod here (and everywhere else). I think an s4's frame seems modable. I got the following pic off the net, but it's only a mockup.

Although I do agree with any impending discussions that it doesn't have the "classic" look, but alas it looks good as a modern cafe what. Lol. Read: commando 941; ducati sport 1000s

Handlebars, can be done to a certain extend of lowering it using 41mm clip-ons like those used on sports bike. Reason being is the tank that might get in the way of the clip-ons clearance.

Open-pod individual air filters are do-able but at the expense of more frequent servicing due to exposure to more dust and dirt.

Rear end need to take into consideration of the tail frame that is inclined upwards unless you wanna chop it off and weld straight frame. The bodywork can be moulded out of fibreglass.

A simpler solution would be to search for a CB400 Four and just add clip-ons.

Wanna estimate how much it would cost. Cuz it would be the difference between me getting a S4 or not, if too prohibitive then I'll stick to my M.

Sort of a sucker for vintage cafe racer with full fairing

s4 depending on age of bike.. ver s maybe about 3k+ can get?

for such customised mods, its hard to gauge. but i would put it in the 2-3k range, including moulding of the fairing.

stick to your M? bMw? Mv augusta? either way, stick to that. lol.

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

Thanks bro, yes my bike :thumb:

Rims cost for both AUD150 and step kit AUD50 including all pre preperation work/sandblasting etc. If you plan on getting it done my advice call a few places. I got quoted prices ranging from $30-150 per rim for it. Bike was getting a major service done so told the mechanic to take the wheels off and tape the the wheel bearings so they don't get painted too otherwise they won't fit back on the bike and it's a pain to remove the paint on it later on.

Sweet! Bro, where do you get the black colour step kit? Or do you respray it? Also your tanl bra can order bring to SG?

Thanks bro :thumb: I've wanted a black step kit for a while and was checking this one out a lot but couldn't justify the money it cost :( http://japan.webike.net/products/2171350.html

So instead I got the heel plate and passenger pegs powdercoated black. The rider pegs on the bike are these ones http://www.bellissimoto.com/FootPegs.html they cost AUD65 for both.

The tank bra I bought from Motoworld (Hodaka) in Singapore for SGD165

Hi bro, I had posted my impressions, thoughs and everything else relating to moving from stock handlebar to clipons in the CB400 SUPER FOUR HYPER VTEC Revo thread but no harm in putting it here again for people to see before and after pics and info. The body position is more sporty and aggressive as opposed to the upright/tourer position of stock handlebars. 3 words, I LOVE IT. I am relatively tall 185cm (over 6') and felt a bit cramped with stock setup and began looking for modifications out there for a more comfortable and same time sporty riding/seating position. My choices were lower rearsets or clipons, latter was the much cheaper and easier mod so went with that and haven't looked back. Below pics are obviously what the bike looked like 4 months ago and above pics are what it currently looks like. These are the clipons I got (41mm).

My cnc bar end mirrors are fine but not 100% so I bought a set of Motovation Universal Bar Ends (size B). Getting these bar ends put on tomorrow so will tell you how much they improve/secure bar end mirrors afterwards.

Woah, this is a very long post but here it goes :D

Posted 18/03/2011 in above thread:

I finally managed to take the bike for a few spins after putting on the clipons and uploaded some pics.

First impressions, with the stock handlebar it feels like the rider is on the bike and sitting fairly upright with not as much feedback from front. With clipons the rider feels more at one with the bike in a typical forward leaning semi sports stance with good feedback from front.

Due to lowering and not going up all the stock cables were used and no modifications were required though mechanic suggested we perhaps go for braided brake lines down the track.

I was after a sporty riding position. Due to my height the stock handlebars felt they were too close to me and made me sit fairly upright like on a scooter but not as bad so I am happy with the end result.

I put on a set of mirrors I got from ebay but didn't like the rear view vision so put the stock ones back on.

As this is a daily ridden street bike we opted to put the clipons on top of the fork next to the triple clamp otherwise we were going to put them below. Have to thank Fazli, khao and Kelvin (Unique Motorsports) for their constructive feedback in pointing me along the way.

Negatives:

Feels like I'm learning to ride all over again.

Slow speed manoeuvring is a bit difficult but will get used to it.

Regardless of what else they may be for others (such as back pain, discomfort etc) I wanted this riding position and have no complaints so far but time will tell what the future will hold. Sometimes you need to make sacrifices to get what you want.

So with a simple mod we went from this

http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad93/ResmeN/Misc/CB400stockhandlebarsergo.png

By adjusting a screw we could end up with anywhere between these and more

May look in to a set of nice cnc bar end mirrors like these

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3531/3862697628_13fa3c3318.jpg

Maybe some levers too and need bar ends of some sort too.

More posts about this in this thread.

Thanks for the infos Resmen!

Thanks bro :thumb:

Wow... By far the best explanation man... You drew the diagram yourself?

I was thinking of re-spraying my bike and playing around with colours. Don't know if there is a software to do do that.

Thanks, appreciated man :p

The diagram is from this website which has every bike listed on it where you can calculate how much clipons or risers will effect the riding position or if a bike is too tall for you etc http://cycle-ergo.com/

Don't know of any software but I'm sure it exists somewhere out there otherwise send a pic of your bike to somebody you know that's good with photoshop & get them to do it. I was looking for a program which did what your after and in the end didn't worry about it and just got the bike bits painted that I wanted, no regrets :thumb:

Just do it.
