Thanks a lot moniberd. But unfortunately my skills are zero when it comes to spraying. I once tried doing it on exhaust pipe and did a really bad job, realised that I was spraying too close. Haha, spraying red on the main bike parts will be a really steep learning curve for me haha.

Do you know any bike shops that will do it for cheap, considering the area to be painted is really less, its only the tank shrouds, side covers and the tail board and also dismantling these parts is very easy.I don't mind spending like 100-150$. I remember your super four you got it sprayed black, did you do it yourself?

Did a horrid job myself as well....

Keep nozzle around 6-8 inches away from the object and keep in a sweeping motion. Do not leave nozzle still.

I have never sent in any of my bikes for respray so I can't help you there.

Posted
1. Buy 150, 400, 800 grade sandpaper. Each about 3-4 sheets.

2. Buy aerosol spray can paint. gloss black is no. 30. matte black is 29. this job, maybe 2 gloss one matte.

3. Get mama lemon dish washing liquid.

4. Remove parts to be resprayed and wash off with mama lemon. Rinse and leave aside to dry completely.

5. Once dry, check and see if there is any scratches or dents.

6. Apply some mama lemon on the roughest sand paper and go through the whole part. Remove the top coat of gloss paint on part to be resprayed. (important!).

7. Wash off excess paint dust and dry completely.

8. Hang up item to be sprayed with wire and do two coats of matte paint on the item. Make sure you do a test on the nozzle first on a piece of cardboard to check the paint consistency.

9. Make sure item is completely dry. Each coat will take about 8-10 mins in the afternoon with no rain.

10. Paint two or 3 coats of black gloss. Again taking 8-10 mins between coats.

11. If there is any spotting or "orange peel" texture on the item, use some mama lemon and smooth sandpaper to go over it. Make sure the paint is completely dry before you attempt to do this. Rinse off once done and leave dry before reapplying gloss coat again.

12. Once you are satisfied with the results, do two or 3 coats of clear coat.

Looking at amount of work, do ensure you have ample time. If not then it will be easier to send in to paint shop to do. But if you have the time, this is a pretty satisfying project.

I am also considering carbon fibre stickering if it is cheaper and easier to DIY, haha.

Yes they do have. What is the rate of leakage? When you see through glass window do you see any oil at all?

If it is dripping few drops, then I would suggest buy a bottle of eo and top up and ride to um, shouldn't be a problem

Today evening we went to Changi village, and saw a big group of scrambler riders meetup there, atleast 20 bikes mostly KTM scramblers. They all had common Tshirt written LTK or TLK or something like that haha.

I have ridden phantom before, regular maintainance cost almost same not much difference, except that phantom takes in 1 spark plug and pulsar takes 2 plugs. I didnt hold the phantom for too long so dont really know its long term maintainance, I heard phantom cam chain is weak and starts rattling. Pulsar also over long term like every 40k kms you might have to do the top overhaul, in between that not much maintainance expect the chain sprockets, tyres, brake pads/shoes may be every 20k kms, the carb diaphragm also every 10k to 20k kms. Cant think of any other maintainance cost. Oh ya, the steering cone bearing may need servicing every 20k kms I guess.

But overall, maintainance cost should be similar to phantom, only difference is phantom can be overhaul in many shops, for pulsar need to go to universal motors if you want to overhaul.

If you are looking for a UG4, you should be safe, since its relatively new and would be low mileage, just take good care of it and its fuel efficiency will always bring a smile on your face :)
