Dear pulsar bikers, can i have some advice on the bike? i'm currently riding a 2002 X9-500, insurance about $230 for third party

road tax about $140.. I'm considering to scrap my bike or sell it cheap to get a pulsar for savings.. now that my andrenaline has settled to a near uncle levels i prefer to ride save and conservative...

How will i benefit from changing to a 3 year old pulsar which goes for about 1.8k?

My riding style is quite relaxed , from still i maintain at 4.5k rpm most of the time to 70kph on normal roads and 5k rpm to maintain 90kph on expressways.

I Dont use much.. maybe travel 600km per month?

 

Can any one tell me the fuel comsumption from a conservative rider like myself? And approx 3rd party insurance for some 1 who's 27 and has had 9 years of riding experience...

I just got my pulsar 180 not too long ago. I am also 27 of age. My insurance is 273.97 for 1 yr 1mth period(excl. gst). I don't have any NCD. Road tax per year is 64. Transfer fee is 51. Hope the info helped.

Btw i've read around and i think some bros were saying the FC is like 50, 40 or even lower.. the variance is so large. I'd like to know about the conditions, say if u abide by the speed limit and accelerate gradually.

 

my X9 even though it's 460cc can give me 21.5km/lit when i abide by the regulations.

Hehe... 600km a month? Then the Pulsar is good for you. I'm using a P200 and use about 500-700km of mileage a month.

 

I'm using P200, it eats more fuel than P180 and I'm doing average 40km/l for 3 months so far.

 

And with our fuel tank size, you only need to pump once a month.

Hi all!! I just passed my 2B yesterday (YAY!!) and planning to get a bike very soon, in the next two weeks at least. I have been eyeing the Bajaj Pulsar for a looong time now, having heard alot of good stuff about it. I guess I am going to get a 1st hand Pulsar, since I can see myself using it for at least a couple of years. Any thing to add/say from all you seniors out there?? Thanks!! Btw, Universal Motors opened on weekends?? I am 21 yrs old, so rough insurance cost??

Mine is 3rd party. I am not under P plate, license 2002. So far for the past one month plus, the bike is parked in my MSCP all the time so I can't comment on the FC. After getting the bike, didn't get the chance to ride much yet.

Hi welcome to e grp. Fr ur description, pulsar i ur best choice. Fyi, i m paying $230 for my ins. I m 30yr o wif full ncd n on 3rd pty ins. Fr ur riding style i read shld b no problem having fc above 40km/l provided e previous owner abide maintainence schedule. For pulsar fc variation is btw 40-50km/l depend on riding style if get pioneer version i hit up to 60km/l. Btw $1.8k for which version? Hope to see u soon.

hi bro.. welcome to the pulsar family! i tink the pulsar is the best choice for u.. one full tank can last me at least 700KM and with your riding style.. the bike would last you more den a month each time.. as for insurance and stuff.. the others would be more suitable to answer your qns..

here are the average fc that the bajaj is capable of giving you...

 

Working at mcdonalds travelling at 50-60 kph irregardless of street or highway travel, carrying the bag, so rider + load weight about 70kg on average, 47.5km/l

 

Working at kfc, with the huge est 100l box tied to it, and travelling 80-90 kph on the highway and 60kph on the street, i get 37.5km/l. Load weight varies from 70-120kg, including rider weight.

 

Bike still in a very standard state, no engine mods, sprockets standard. And for both gauges i should also inform you that i dont believe in expensive engine oils. I regularly change the oil myself using the cheap $3 engine oil that lab sells. I also dont believe in expensive spark plugs. if grade 7 plugs are available, i use those. 8 if 7 isnt available. 9 and 10, o even those "iridium power" plugs? I dont believe is wasting money on those things, the savings are marginal.

 

Did i mention that i have been using the standard chain/sprockets for over almost 2.5 years now? The chain guards are a work of genius!

 

You will be bringing pulling the throttle to about 8k rpm to maintain 90kph on the highway.

 

One thing i notice about the pulsar is that it doesnt like to be redlined too long. Somehow keeps stalling at rest, until it significantly cools down. But relaxed uncle riders wont face this problem. Fscking msia plate rx8 cut in so close to get ahead even when i was travelling at 80kph on a 80kph speed limit highway, on the third frigging lane?! The pulsar is capable of hitting 120kph even with the huge ass box tied to it, when a severely pissed of dispatch rider is on it. Of course the bike starts wheezing at rest, and keeps stalling. Let it cool off by travelling within the speed limit, and it goes back to normal.
