I don't think it's Lutein - c'mon, who can't recognize a RED Ducati Monster ? One of my dream bikes, but seeing it in action, I realize how frustrating it would be to have such bike in SG, unless you take it for long rides every WE

I really like Triumph bikes. Very popular in the US, with infinite mds possibilities. This one is a 600cc I think ? I didn't know people had them in SG, I just assumed they wouldn't import them - then again, there are Harley riders in SG ... :D

2nd ya on that, Triumphs make a wicked whine during acceleration/deceleration. Much better sounding than an inline4 or a v imho.

Yep, that striple is a 675. Gotta know where to find them :D. A place where I visit now n then has a white s3 and a gold daytona675 parked there all the time. Always spend a few mins walking round em.

Also saw a track-ready one at racewerks. headlight-covered and all that track jazz.

Save on the modding to buy one in the future! Aiming for a striple in a few years. or if i strike lottery.

Smile! Tomorrow will be worse.

Many people come to this thread to ask about which bike shop to go to if they want to fix something on their Pulsar or repair/service it.

We usually recommend UM and people often ask us why or they say they prefer to go somewhere else because they heard that place has good mechanics. We then usually say, well, UM knows the bike like no one else in SG so it's your safest bet.

I have some recent experience to share with you guys to sustain this point of view:

- Installed a voltmeter lately: the guy turned off my auto-cancellation of signals so I had to go back for them to make it back the way it was, and now I don't know what they touched, but it cancels much faster than originally. I turn, right away the signal is canceled, it's now too sensitive.

- Changed my brake line : Now my brake is very loose. I could've told them to tighten it more, but honestly, after 1.5h spent there watching the guy try his best, I just did not have the heart and energy to ask for touch ups. And I have no idea what kind of brake fluid they put there, is it DOT3 or 4 or what brand. By the time I thought of asking, it was all done and I just didn't want to be disappointed... But I think when people do things to your bike, they owe you communication and clear explanations.

- Changed my stock balancers and hand grips : no problem with the left one, but it took the mechanic more than 1 hour to fix the throttle one. I kid you not, ONE HOUR. It was quite painful to watch: at first the grip was too tight on the handle bar and the throttle wasn't released when turn fully. Then he oiled the handle bar, put the grip back, still not releasing the throttle when you let go of it. Then he took sand paper and sort of worked the handle bar, then put back the grips, then only the throttle would come back to position when fully turned. Then when he went to close the throttle box, it was too far away from the grip, and the box didn't close well, I could see a space. So I asked him to redo it. Then after that when I tested it, I turned the throttle, the grip would take the throttle gear box with it and turn it too! So redo again. At the end, I had to leave, but now I have a very loose grip, so it turns too fast when I put my hand on it, and it's literally sliding from the throttle gear box to the balancer (there's about 0.5cm of space there).

The other problem I have is I don't speak chinese nor malay. So sometimes there's ZERO communication with the mechanic possible as they don't speak english. So they have to call someone to come and translate to answer my question or understand them. It's now becoming very painful for me because although I'm not particularly interested in mechanic stuff, I do want to know what is done to my bike and why, I want to understand how it works, I want my questions answered and I want to be able to ask anything as it comes to me and explain my opinion. But girl + doesn't speak chinese = nevermind she doesn't know anything. And yesterday I realized I just didn't have the energy after a long day at work to try to get my newbie questions across.

Even if the staff is trying to help and very nice, it just doesn't work, and at the end, I come across as fussy (Fussy Ang Moh, that's me!) or just too newbie to understand. I feel like a blonde, and that's a lot to say.

So, as much as I would like to find a shop that can take care of my bike without trying to charge me more than the right price, and as much as I want to give different mechanics a try to see which one will take care of my bike well, I can't tahan anymore the feeling that some of them just NEVER touched a Pulsar before and just go blind and do things without experience.

OK changing a handle grip is common to all bikes, but see, they struggled with my throttle gear box (when it looks really easy) and I think it's because they never tried to fit these grips on a Pulsar before. And it's horrible to have this feeling that the mechanic is doing things on the bike on his gut feeling, I don't know if you've experienced this before ? When you can tell by looking at how the guy is searching for the screws and bolts location, that he's just figuring things out as he's working? To see my bike in such hands is just pure heart pain.. I'm not saying they're not professionals, they are, but they just do not know the bike.

It's like giving your brand new phone or gadget to a kid: he's gonna figure it out because you know he's damn smart and like to do that. But you're constantly worried he's gonna drop it or do something bad, without realizing, even though he is full of good intentions.

So yes, you can go to any bike shop to do the above or to do normal servicing. But after experiencing first hand these events, I would recommend UM even more. Regardless of their pricing policy - and I say that openly knowing they will read me - (Yes Jason, I know you lurk around :) ) that puts me off sometimes. I'd rather give my money to specialists who are not training on my bike, and who actually developed a real knowledge of the bike and will not only be good at troubleshooting it, but also at communicating and explaining the bike to me because they actually care about the bike and know exactly how to work on it.

Hope this helps fellow pulsar riders.. I might just be having a series of bad luck and my case can be isolated. But I did 3 bikeshops and the 3 gave me the same feeling that they didn't know what they were doing when it came to working on the bike. And I went for very simple things that are very basic, nothing complicated.. so for me, my mind is set...

Can't Agree less with your stand and view points, just came back from UM this morning. The service is super for my point of view and etc.

The timing spend there was less than half an hour and my bike was tidy up by the Mech, place my EXO stablizer in place and changed my Batt to Dry cell.

My expereience from UM was a great one.

I would recommend you UM to fellow Bajaj Riders.:angel:

a m'sia PR friend told me to watch out for the u-turn after shell, if u see a TP standing there, dont do the u-turn. cos my friend got caught. my friend riding sg plate bike, so he showed him his ic, then the TP susprised: oh u're m'sian, then let him off with RM$10.

- Markers (2 or 3): You two will If we have more than 15 bikes, we will need at least 3 of you. Your responsibility will be to wait for the rest of the convoy if seperated from the lead bikes by a traffic light or junction or heavy traffic.

- Sweepers (1 or 2) : You will be responsible for making sure no rider is left behind, and that in case of a separation from the group, that riders find their way back to the next meeting point or next marker. I will be volunteering for this role.

- Phototakers (2 or 3): You will be taking group photos at our different stops and entertaining all requests for photos as and when asked

Ideally, we are also looking for 1 or 2 pillions, experienced enough to be able to take pictures of our convoy on the road, while staying SAFE !

Please note that a pre-BTMO Meeting (dinner) will be held on the Wed or Thursday before the BTMO, to go over the last details and make sure everyone is ready and we planned for everything.

All Coordinating Members must have Hazard Lights on their bikes, and feel comfortable in assuming their position. Every member will be given an orange or yellow reflective vest to be more visible at night and to help the other riders identify them during the ride.

Please come forward if you can take one of the above position

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

doubt thr'll be any DIY session anytime soon.. most have already done or did their hazard lights..

diy session can do anything, not necessary hazzard.

to o'ren.. my exact sentiments about servicing with other bike shops.. but sometimes we cant reali blame them as our bike is just not as common like honda or gilera and our bike manufacturer somehow decided to design the bike just a little different from most bikes.. even our mirror screws were opposite of most bikes and i had to buy an adaptor to fix my mirror.. so.. chill out and we'll have a great evening tml!! :cheer:

to kira.. the pic of alvin is hilarious to me.. haha.. :cheeky:

Yeah I agree the bike is different, so if you don;t know the bike, say it. Say, I'm sorry I'm not familiar with the bike. So instead of having your customer pay for a half done job, you are being franc, and the customer decides if they want to take the risk. But you take the job like you know what you're doing then you just anyhow anyhow try to do something, I understand it's business, but my long essay was exactly to warn people about the risk, that's all

I'm glad you're joining Arthur, I'm sure your horn doesn't work in MY because it knows it's no good to horn there, otherwise you just keep horning every minute !

From what i understand and my humble little knowledge..

1) 2nd hand bike from shops u need your own insurance..get a fresh new insurance. But if direct buying from owner then can just add as sub-rider

2) Insurance for P-Plate mostly cost between $700 - $1000 depend on the insurance company and also what bike u taking..for pulsar..below $900? Check with new riders here (no pun intended).

3) Yes the insurance is for the bike but your name must be present :). You can ask an experienced rider to buy..then put ur name sub-rider but u also must pay too...tio bo? :cheeky:

Hope i didnt get any points wrong..haha..
