Hello Guys,

I'm a noob rider that has just borrowed my friend's FM plate Cagiva Mito, and would like to see your advice on a few issues. Btw, she was such a blast! - I can now understand the passion of Cagiva supporters like yourselves :thumb:

Understand that I should do some research first before posting - I've gone through the whole thread of "Motordiam Rating", and if I were to go thru all of the 300 pages of this thread, it'll take an extremely long time. Plus I also dunno whether the shop still around or whether price change; have heard of a few shops that start out good but over time degenerate into money-minded "chopping boards". So hope you don't mind my questions.

1. Problem: Bike cannot start

Although a really old bike, when he passed the bike to me, all working fine, including electric start. On my way home, engine stalled. Then it can be be push start, have ridden and revved the engine over 7k rpm to recharge the battery. But once engine is off, leave for a while, cannot electric-start. The lights come on when the key is turned, but upon pressing the electric start, it sounds like the bike is "trying to crank" but nothing happens. Upon further pressing there is no sound anymore. Now I can't even push start the bike, or maybe it could be my noobie push starting skill. Or maybe she dun like me heh.

We figured it was the battery, but I thought I'd run it though you guys.

- Could it be the ever common rectifier problem, then change battery also no use?

- How to check rectifier if cannot start bike?

- Or is it as simple as taking out the battery and bringing it to LAB to test and replace if necessary?

2. Servicing: Recommended mechanic

Since he it has been a really long time since the bike was last serviced, I thought might as well have it towed to a mechanic for checking on the above problem and servicing. Since I'm a total noob and I figured it'd be really obvious to the mechanic,

was hoping you guys can advise where so I will not be "tokked jialat jialat". My friend couldn't advise me here. Since it's not my bike, I feel an added responsibility in bringing her to a skilled and responsible mechanic.

Here's what I've found, comments (especially regarding ke-tok and pricing nature) please? Can tell me who to look for? If not these, any others would you recommend?

1. First Motor

2. Excel Cycle (Xiao Boon)

3. Kallang Cycle (Michael was chief mechanic of Ducati/Cagiva/Triumph right?)

4. Eunos Superbike Centre (Kenny)

5. Racewerks (William, Bukit Merah)

6. Mah (Agent, without some bad reviews)

7. Planet Motor (best reviews about honesty in the whole forum! but is Ah Chong experienced with Cagivas? Oh and since we're on this topic, can he do Yamaha WR200 as well?)

8. Bike Specialist (Mayo St)

3. Type of servicing and expected cost:

It's been so long since the bike was serviced (my friend passed the bike to his dad and he DIY), he can't remember when it was last sent in and where..

Understand there are different servicings for different intervals - engine & transmission oil, carb & valve servicing;

- Which type of servicing should I do and how much?

- What should the full servicing package be and how much?

Many thanks in advance for your help and patience in reading. Really appreciate it as a noob :)

1. sounds like either ur batt connections are loose/ batt worn out.

tighten up the nuts located on the batt terminal points(and check for signs of corrosions or worn out wirings), and try again. or even betta, loosen everything, use sand paper to clean the contacts of the wire connectors and batt terminals. most prob this would solve ur problem.

if not, use wd40 or any contact cleaner to go through the connectors (after u had d/c them)of the rectifier(the black one wit heatsinks), using sandpaper to throughly clean the contacts.

to check if ur recitifier's working, connect a voltmeter to ur batt after ur bike had started. the voltage should raise with the rpm until it peaks at ard 13-14+v and stopped there.

remember to rev up slowly as to get the proper read up. when the bike had switched off, there should be a minimum of 12v from the batt. 12v is the bare minimum for an electric start.

change the batt if the aboves still dun work...

2. no comments on that but most ppl would recommend 1st motor!

3. go for a carb wash, overhaul the internals if nessesary. u can do a full engine servicing which includes cleaning the piston, exhaust valve, replacing the top gaskets, flush coolant and new gearbox oil. change the endcan packings if the exhaust is loud too. prices varies...

Need some technical data. I know the mito rear brake disc is 230mm and six mounting screw. The monster too have six but what is the diameter size? Cos I oedered braking wave disc. I fix the front but the rear the agent told me hes ordering the one for monster. Can the monster rear disc brake mount onto a mito?

Haowei,

Dell'orto 28MM. Same for Mito 6 and 7. Mk1 and Mk2 i dont know. For a 125cc, an upgrade to a 34MM will b more satisfying, though at e expense of a bit higher FC.

v_tong,

I dont think there's a need to remove e gaskets n piston to clean cos u might as well do a top overhaul. U wouldnt know whether a top overhaul is needed either cos any power loss cant b detected by a new owner.

Anyway Jon is right, u should flush coolent, wash brake pistons, rebleed brakes, change suspension fluid, wash carb, change gear oil n plug. These cost ~$200.

Also, replacing of any worn expendables such as tyres, chain, sprocks, brake pads, batt.

After all these e bike will b gd.

Why four strokes when all you need is two?

Hi all. I'm looking for a few mito parts.

Front brake reservoir, working fuel lid and fuel tap. Fuel tank strap and fuel tank bracket. Clutch lever and clutch bracket. Ignition barrel.

If anyone has these parts to let go pls let me know.

Thanks!

Thanks a lot, jonathan543 and gekokujyou. really do appreciate your time and comprehensive advice..

jonathan543:

was reading previous posts, hope all's ok.. it's always sad to hear a fellow rider in accident.

gekokujyou:

Thanks for the price! am glad for it so i dun tio tok big time :)

- Top overhaul means to change to new pistons right?

- May I ask why the bottom overhaul is not needed?

- How much would it be anyway?

Cheers..

top overhaul generally means changing the engine parts accessible by juz removing the top block/cover(correct me if i'm wrong).

examples would be the piston, piston sleeve, conn rod(?), piston bearings(?).

most of the time when the bike is whacked through abuse/ignorance(insufficient warming up, too lean jettings, too much 2t oil intake, redlining most of the time, etc), the piston/ring would be the 1st to seize since there's where the internal combustion is going on.

there might be other related issues which might lead to ashed piston top, knocked out piston skirt, etc.

usually minor piston seizure the bottom end bearings are left undamaged. but they do get prematurely worn out by insufficient 2t oil intake.

from wad i heard, take special note of unusually loud knocking noises from ur engine, might meant the bottom end/conn rod bearings had given way le. but do not mistake for the sounds of loose clutch basket, which is typically normal of older italian bikes.

for my dead planet, the loose clutch housing sounds juz like a mini ducati wit closed dry clutch cover!

richard(richarducati) had the complete jap made toyo brand bottom bearings set plus 2 new oil seals. pm him for more details.
