yeah i've already checked some of the places listed and choices seem to be limited...ebay looks good but i have absolutely zilch experience buying from ebay...:cheeky:

it's not too tough, it's easier if you check out the seller history

so far i bought from HD Wisconsin on ebay and a couple of other with good reputation.

regarding shipping, if you buying from USA, can opt to ship using VpostUSA, or just use the shipping the seller uses.

BTW i was going at around 190-200km/h,don't know my exact speed cause my bike no meter. Tried pacing with a street rod b4 and the meter on the rod reads 200 when i'm on fifth gear with full throttle

Maybe petrol not flowing into the carb at that speed?

I just chromed some parts of my bike and after riding it, i smell a "chao ta" smell, like something had been fried. What's up with that?

I know some folks say that when you just changed your engine oil, you'll get that smell, but i didn't change engine oil, only gear oil. Why the smell then? Anybody? Cheers & Regards.

hi guys, i intend to buy a harley nxt mth.. i need some advice on pro n cons for buyin a 2nd hand bike.. thanx.

1) Check chassis for signs of cracks/of repainted over ask about it

2) Check for oils leaks from several places eg: rocker top box covers/cylinders/engines covers/transimission areas/brake calipers and hoses...if there are leaks maybe small problem with gaskets but who knows how the long the bike has been running with the oil leaks.

3) Spoke wheels - check for loose spokes, Mag wheels - check for misalignment

4) Servicing records if any...

5) Check presence of air filter (especially when handing over of bike)

6) Check for missing parts/bolts/screws EVERYWHERE

7) Check for brake/clutch lever tension

8) Of cos...listen to the engine...no funny knocking noises and stuff like dat...

9) Chassis and engine number...readily available from OneMotoring.com

Pros - Cheaper then new, customising done to a certain extent already as such save money on cosmetic parts, older carb models sound better?(subjective), tried and tested

Cons - Man who the hell knows what went on with the bike, drops before? Wear and tear parts (Belts, batts, bearings) unavoidable...Did this guy piss ALOT of people off with this bike??? haha

Off hand thatz wat i could think of. What model are u looking at? :cheeky:

No leh, i only changed the gear oil cos i sent the gear change cover for chroming too, so gear oil had to be drained out. Anyway, the smell is fading away, so i'm quite sure it's the new chemical emitted by the chrome lah.... :p

Softail Custom... my all time favourite. Good choice :)

I just got my battery changed last week. I bought a japanese one instead of a harley one. Cost me $150. As for the latter, you should be looking at paying $270 and up.... Cheers & Regards.

Yeah the price is around $270++ or more for an original Softail battery. If ur planning to get an aftermarket batt then u may wanna try Yuasa...do note that there are Thai(I think) made Yuasa and Jap Yuasa...get the Jap one...cos thatz really not bad...should cost around $150++...anywayz if u ride everyday then should be no prob...but if u ride juz weekends then watever batt's gonna go bad sooner...cos charging only comes in like somewhere around the range of 2k rpm or more...alot of short distance riding start and stop kinda rides hurt batts real bad as well...Harleys are made to be ridden...so RIDE as often as u can...

Disclaimer: I'm not really a techie kind of person...but wat I've learned i try and share around...however if im giving wrong stuff out please do correct me... :cheeky:

When you try to press start, do you hear a "rattling" sound but bike doesn't start? If yes, it's the rectifier that may be spolit. Common problem.... :(

check your starter fuse. bottom right hand side somewhere deep inside. Happened to mine before. Lights all ok, just cannot start. Push started it. When to shop. Turns out the fuse was loose. I think someone sabo cos it's not easily located.
