I intend to buy Piaggio Skipper (2001), 150cc.

Registerred in 2003. Made 40.000 km, 3rd owner.

What price is for that skipper?

I heard, skippers are not reliable, and half of time have to spend in repair. Is that true?

Just wanna bring this thread into 2007

thinkbot, you can consider going to Eunos Indl park near Paya Lebar MRT station...there're a lot of bike shops there and I did see Skippers at more than 2 shops...maybe they do spraying...

You can try asking other scooter threads too..they might have lobang :)

fellas who still ride Skippers not very active here liao :weep:

Hi,

Recently I changed oil and the filter. When should I change next time?

In three months or 3000 km?

Your advice is appreciated!

Hmm did u change your gear oil? Check on your engine mounting, spark's plug, rollers, belts? When was the last full service done? And you never specify is yours the 4 stroke or the 3 stroke version

Skippers run on belt. It's an automaitc bike. You will need to take care of it's belt, rollers and U-shoe. One time change abt every 10000km, costing between $120-$145. Spark plugs can tahan quite long (fyi, my sparkplugs have been there for 2 yrs...). There's no engine oil...but there's gear oil of abt 200ml. You also need to take note of the engine mounting...which corrodes every 2-3 yrs if not take care of...and changing that is abt $40 for the rubber and up to $100+ including the 2 pc of metal rod beneath the bike I think. If ignored, the rear wheel will wobble and you might fall when cornering to low :giddy:

Serious, only gear oil...no engine oil. Cos it uses belt. Gear oil can DIY, but you'll need tools. I remember I removed my rear tyre to change gear oil...dunno can be done w/o removing the tyre or not

One good way to check the engine mounting is to park the bike with mainstand and try to shake the rear tyre left right. It's supposed to be pretty firm. If it is easy to shake it left right, probably your rubbers corroded...as for the 2 pcs of metal rods beneath the bike...I forgot how I checked it. Cos the first day I got my Skipper 2yrs ago, I just rode it to a shop and asked the uncle to check everything and changed whatever necesary. And since then, I only changed belt, rollers, U-shoes every 10k km, a used CDI and nothing else these 2 years

Hi Andy, welcome to Skippernet :cheer:

I suggest you to leave the fairing as it is as long as it doesn't drop out while riding cos it's just a A-B bike for most of us (unless you are Whiteoryx  )! Haha :cheeky: But if you really want, you can try the shop opposite Mustafa (damn..forgot the name of the shop)

As for your shaking rear wheel, see your PM.

Thanks bro SK I for introducing me to this skippernet! Alright.. anyone got spare part for the meters? Mine is not working except for speedo. Another question, are the tyres for skipper all standard size or there are slightly bigger and of course legal too?

Posted

Hi tranquility82, welcome to Skippernet. Do a search here...might be able to find the answers. Skippers have a standard tyre size  Or you can wait for a while longer...some kind soul might post the answers again :cheeky:
