I'm only concerned with the question of whether to use 10W30 or 10W40 as the owner's manual recommends. There are some bikers and mechanics who say 10W40 is "better" in our hot climate even though the manual puts 10W30 first (or is it first because 30 comes before 40).

Then, there are those who say use 10W30 for the first few years or up to 50,000 to 70,000km and then when the engine is a little worn out progess to 10W40 and maybe 10W50 etc.

Can I get some more opinions on this please?

Thank you.

Regarding the engine oil grade i had also call hong leong for advise, under the sevice & maintainence department they said their research had shown that all yamaha suitable for 15w50 or 20w50 for all yamaha bike...:bounce:

the lower the no, the thinner the oil, higher the no. the thicker it is, i always go long distance, i'm using maxima 15W50 to protect my engine. Maybe for short or normal riding can use 10W40

Think what he mention is based on the service manual. Not on the physical worn item. That's means, he change according to the spec given in the service manual.

 service manual says to check only, replace only if necessary when bearing worn out. When i took over the bike from previous owner, it was gone already. Tat y i have it replace. Now steering very smooth & free turning

This depend on ur load & riding style. It all part of routine maintanace. Wear out is quite normal. For ur info, the steering bearings is similar part no. to R1, FZ1, Diversion900. So ours is actually for big bikes. Its heavy duty. Can tell u more when we meet up. Later explain too much people find chance to whack again
