That means not for everyone ey? "Metzeler Racetec user"

"Metzeler" is a brand name.. Just like "Bridgestone" , "Michellin" and "Maxxis".... "RaceTec" is a particular model/type of Metzeler tyres.... Most ppl use it for the race track.... However there are riders who use this particular set of tyres for road too...

For beginner track riders, I don't think Racetecs are the best choice. Road tyres will provide a more familiar feel and performance.

I believe Racetec and similar trackday tyres need to be ridden hard to reach optimum temperature and grip levels, whereas street tyres work even when cold.

Just my opinion. :)

Most of the riders who started out new on track took to track tires than to road tires as to what I've seen in US. Tho' this is a different scenario, weather and track conditions, hopefully those who are going for it will benefit from DocDoL's session and improve over the weeks and utilise the tires for its track purpose..

I second the first statement that you've made. It's better (and sometimes adventurous fun) for one to know the limits of one's tyres.

However, as one progresses in speed and "forceful" cornering, he is unaware that he is pushing his road tyres to the limit making the compound (and the tyre as a potential whole) give way during cornering.

This is why soft tyres are invented, as well as slicks too. :)

And yucks, nobody sells Metz slicks for my kinda 400cc bike. Shucks man!

I'm not skillful enough to experience this for myself, but it is said that road tyres 'give way' more progressively than slicks, meaning the transition from gripping to sliding to shitting your pants is much faster for slick tyres.

I can certainly feel my street tyres starting to slide, especially the rear tyre under acceleration, and I know its time to back off and pit.

And maybe ya correct. I guess it's definitely back to the operating-temperatures school of thought if we were to analyze the differences between these tyres.

(and yeah, I was on a touring tyre once, and it made my bike misbehave a couple of times before I went down. Pretty scary indeed and some "how-the-heck-that'd-happened?!" theories were made out from it as well.)

Good insight though.
