Hey guys, quick question here on servicing pricing, what is the typical charge for servicing ur bike? I did it over the wkend and the guy charge like $18 to clean carb, $25 to clean valve, $60 to clean pipe - seems a bit steep to me, are these standard, if not where is good? Also, I broke my right indicator light while cleaning it - how much shld it cost to replace and which workshop opens till late, cos i work wkdays... Thanks!

Thing to ponder over:- Cheap service does not mean good workmanship, good workmanship does not come cheap.

I would like to stress one thing. Esp for newbies who got their bike and have no good shops to go to.

Expensive DOESN'T mean ITS good. I can still remember the first time i went wash my bike's (KRR) valves at the bike shop i bought my bike from. Got charged $25 and what did the mech do? He took out my valves, wiped a few times with a piece of newspaper and put it back. This is an example of a EXPENSIVE and LOUSY workmanship. After a friend of mine introduced my to planet motors at ubi, i never went back to the old one(wont be mentioning names here). I've been chopped quite a few times by the shop that sold me my bike when i went service there.

And when i washed my valve at planet motors, it was a big difference, with same amount charged. The mech took out my valves, washed it with petrol, BUFFed my valves till it was shiny(he buffed it cause he made me wait damn long to wash valve.. think he paiseh thats why give me extra.) I felt SO GOOD just by seeing the way he did my servicing of my bike.

In singapore, esp at motorbike shops, BEWARE. Expensive workmanship doesn't mean they will do a GREAT job. Some are just out to chop you.

Nike - Just do it!

Some mechanics or shops I have had very good service & workmanship before that I would recommend without any hesitation:

Dili Trading 6 743 5100 (Ah Tai or Ah Hai) Ubi

Ah Lye - Same row as Dexing (Search another thread on good mechanics for exact location)

Michael Chong - Kallang Cycle (Do not let the Malay guy do any carb rejetting at all. You have been warned!)

Jimmy - Mayo Street (Opposite the scrambler motortiam), a small corner with lots of electrical components & wires lying around.

Check for the source of the leak. It can be either of these (Or a combo)

(1) Joint between tank & petrol c*** (Remedy with a bar of soap)

(2) Disconnected fuel hose

(3) Torn fuel hose

(4) Carburettor gasket worn

(5) Your pants (The KIPS can be a scary bike for newbies and have been known to cause involuntary urinary problems with certain individuals)

neh..doubt so...i only parked the bike, went up for 10 mins and came down to go out....i doubt ppl steal my petrol...besides...it was still full tank when it leaked...

prob fixed but according to the mech, he said carb overflow and the petrol aint pure due to rust in the tank.

as for the fuel switch...do we park the bike, off it, trottle and swtich off the bike or otherwise??

Nothing wrong with leaving the fuel switch on if you're gonna ride it again within 24 hours or so..

I left my fuel switch on reserve and parked my bike for 5 days.. Then want to start cannot start, had to do the off engine switch switch and kick method.. When the engine finally started, whole floor of the mscp smoke out, macham spray insecticide.
