tires changed. bt45 for the rear as bt39 out of stock. rear bearing also changed as well as its old.

feels good. tread seems to be more than bt39 so should have better wet weather riding capability.

back for the new year.

Things changed.

Cam Chain Tensioner

Air Filter, Oil Filter, EO, Spark plugs, coolant, brake pads.

After installing of CCT, the engine is noticeably quieter, can no longer hear the loud ticking noise. Simple job to change CCT but troublesome to remove and install.

spark plugs are cr8k which is different cause it is 2 tips as opposed to 1 tip but the bike runs fine so am gonna leave it at that.

Next week, a fresh new paint job and valve clearances and its done!.

met a guy who was looking for a Impulse to mod to a cafe racer. he told me the tank shape is perfect for that purpose.

he is still shopping around still. I don't think i'll sell it to him if i have a choice as i am only looking to pass this to someone who appreciates the retro feel of this bike.

Hey folks, nice to see an Impulse forum that's somewhat near me. I have what I believe to be the only Impulse in S. Korea. It's a 94 with approx 27000 kms, and runs great. Ive had for 2 seasons, and put probably 10000 + kms on it. I really love the bike and its perfect for the road and traffic conditions over here.

I source most of my parts through ebay, and I was wondering what parts are interchangeable with the Impulse. I assume the Bandit 400 and 600 share some parts, byt are there any other models I can exchange

with? Or are there any supplies there in Singapore I could deal with?

Also would love a link with all the part numbers if anyone has one.

Thanks in advance.

hi, welcome to the impulse forum.

the impulse shares some parts with the bandit 400 (GK71A). the impulse model code is GK79A.

1) the radiator is exactly the same. tubings and all.

2) the engine is same EXCEPT for later model bandits with the valve timing tech.

3) Brakes disc are different size although they look the same.

4) Exhaust are the same.

i suggest you check out Yahoo Japan Auctions for the impules parts, they have lots of it. i imported some for myself. you can look back through the thread to see the things i've restored on it.

I did find a website with the parts list of the impulse in Russian, let me search again.

I got myself an Impulse this week from one of the forumer in SBF. Still trying to get use to the bike. I am having some queries on the bike and hope you guys could enlighten me.

I realise last night that when I use my foot brake, the brake light does not come on. With my had brake, the brake light works. I check the brake pump (I think it should be call that) located just behind the foot rest and could not see any wiring coming out of it. Is it right? Without electrical connection, how does it trigger the brake light to come on?

there is a brake light switch under the brake lever, not the brake pump, operated by a spring. adjust by turning the screw round thing and test again.

what year is it? got pics?

I've located the switch but it's not under the brake lever. I would say it is behind the brake lever and next the radiator top-up reservoir. I can't see it well from outside but I could feel it. Have tried pulling it with my fingers but still does not trigger the brake light. Will try your suggestion on adjusting it this weekend but have a gut feel the switch is faulty. Any idea if KS Motors has it?

It's a 96 Impulse. I bought it from Ziheng this week. Outlook is not great but is not an issue for me.

Tks CSV. The switch is not faulty but is due to a burnt bulb (I hope). Apparently, there are 2 bulbs within the tail-light cover. The larger bulb is dual filament and is for taillight & front brake lever. There is a smaller bulb below, single filament. This buld is burnt and I am 'assuming' it is for the foot brake. Have not get a replacement for it. Hopefully it's a simple burnt bulb.

Have replace with a new bulb and the foot brake light still don't work. The bulb is still a taillight. Ran out and got myself a break switch and had to do a slight modification to the wirings as the new switch connection don't fit with the existing. It is working now. The problem was the break switch. The larger dual filament bulb was for taillight and both front & foot brake.

The brake light should light up when front or rear brake is activated, the small light bulb is to luminate your licence plate. Try to adjust to tension on the rear brake light switch. Plug out rear brake switch connector and check for continuity when you apply rear brake. If the circuit is open continue to adjust the tension till the circuit is close, then plug back the connector your brake light should work. Same problem happen to my Impulse, I bought from Ziheng too.

yeah. for some reason, the rear brake light on my impulse burn out quite oftne. about 6 months once.

in any case, its a reliable bike. rare and special. but i have got used to it already that i am finding it lacks power...hmmm, need to temper my riding.

Did you pay a visit to KS? everytime i go there, my eyes light up with all the parts i can fit to the bike, which i have done. almost. haha.

I measured the continuity and all was close loop. So the wirings are still good. Brake light works when I use the front brake but not when I use the foot brake. So bulb is good. After replacing the brake switch, it works now.

I got the switch from GH. It was nearer to the CTE exit. Cost not more than $15, might be a little more ex than KS but I just want to get a switch ASAP and install and hope it resolve the problem. Otherwise, need to send to bike shop to troubleshoot.

I also felt it lack power although it's my first 2A bike. I used to ride a 200cc scrambler and tot they are more powerful. But scramblers has more torque, so naturally more power. Have not use the Impulse for long distance yet... might try this weekend on the PIE, end to end but only if I can find the time.

Just to '*****' a little bit...

The brake switch is located in a very bad position. With all the dirt on the old switch, removing it was a pain in the a**. Could have locate it near the rear brake pump.

I also realize that it is so difficult to buy light bulb now adays. Bulb is 12V10W. Went to 2 petrol kiosk and they don't sell bulbs at all. Went to 2 hardware shop and they also don't sell this rating. End up have to buy from bike shop. In the past, when bulbs in torchlight burnt out, ppl replace the bulbs.

I guess nowadays, ppl just replace the torch light.

If CSV's rear brake light is burning out once every 6 months, could it be due to an unsize bulb rating?

hmmmm, sounds like an early model edition?

I've changed the sprockets and chain on the Impulse as it is wearing out, and i can hear the clak clak clak sound when clutching in.

After changing it from the 45 teeth to the original stock 48, the bike feels much better and "tighter". pickup is slightly increased due to the lower gear ratio.

previous sprocket was 45 mainly for more top speed, but since i don't go at high speeds often, i dont mind moving it back to 48 for more acceleration.

feels good. now whats left is the paintjob and changing the springs on rear suspension as they are too soft from old age.

HI CSV, I am recently having problem with my chain getting the grr grr sound. BTW, where did you get the chain and the sprocket chain? and how much did it cost you. Left another 4 month with the renewal of COE. Don't want to let go the bike... it is simply fun to ride this bike. cheers

KS motor.

chain and sprocket set will set you back for 120 bucks, BUT don't get the chain from KS. its lousy brand, IRIS. rust very easily.

just get the sprocket, and go to any bike shop and get DID chains instead. much better quality.

stock sprocket is 48 tooth, but you can use 45 if you highway cruise often, because less tooth on the rear = more top end, lower revs at higher speed.
