i ask this qn cos i just curious. if u were to fully utilise the rear tyre, then ur footrest wud be scraping the tarmac rite? then why vtec1 using 160/60 instead of 150/60?

 

ps im a newbie so pls bear with my noob comments

hmmm i meant i wud prefer using 150 tyres if possible, cos since i nvr really utilise the extra strips of rubber i think its just extra baggage. buts thats just how i feel. others may want 160 cos can kup more? or maybe got other technical reasons.. seriously curious y vtec 1 is 160/60 n y version s is 150/60

Okay lah...heee...x3!..touching rider foot peg scrapping ground is nothing lah..anyone can do it after a few months of riding..just guts you need and knowing your bike well...its scrapping your pillion footpeg that's is chio...lOL!..even Valentino Roti also cannot do....

There are definetly reasons. Once the manufacturer finished many test run on their tracks...they know what fit best for the model of the bike. From frame structure design, centrifugal force, fork rake angle...etc..all affects how the bike behaves and how it can best be handle at given speed. So...R & D test etc...till the bike becomes production and leaves it factory..it's concluded best for what size tire it wears which is safe for riders and effective under intense performance likely expected for ROAD USES.

 

If you look carefully between Vtec and non Vtec and the changes between them..yes, there are differences in design factored into each bike. It is quite transparent but handling of each can only tell and it is all "body english" with the bike you ride..then that you will understand.

 

In general..it is said in many reviews that more powerful bike wear bigger fatter back tires..in this case..I can only generalised that the Vtec version is safer with a size larger for the fact that when Vtec kicks in..it's safer. Non Vtec are somewhat more gradual, predictable and progressive in throttle command.

 

IMHO of course...and stick to what is standard what the manufacturer gives you for a long life ride and many more new models to play with

sometimes, we jus do not know how low we can go until we see our foot peg, belly pan being scratched and how much the utilise of our rear tyre are...

 

having 160/60, not all can utilise till the edge, but it also serves as a cornering protection limit. by the time a rider scrapes the foot peg, the utilisation of the tyre is almost at the edge already...

 

hance, having 160/60 is a safety reason i guess. my 2 cents.

 

on the other hand, did u notice that the rims of non-VTECs and VTECs are different? the rims of non-VTECs are smaller as compared to VTECs...

 

rims of non-VTECs are also able to fit in 160/60. but u will never get to use all the way till the edge even if u corner until scrape endcan...
