Hi guys, I just need to ask for opinions. I have thought of buying a Phantom TA200 as I love the sound compared to the other near-to-high-pitched sounds on Sports bike for class 2B.

The problem is that most of my friends tell me that Phantom TA200 is a bike for "ah peks and uncles". I don't want to be seen as an ah pek nor an uncle. I'm quite built in size, approximately 175cm in height.

I have thought of getting Honda CBR150 but people have told me that it looks to scrawny for my size. If the only thing that suits me is either Honda TA200 or Aprilia RS125 for my size, what about the rest?

I'm still very confused and I do have about SGD3k saved so far. I thought I'd get my bike right after I get my riding license but no, I'm still a licensed biker without a bike. -_-" Help.

Your height look best on a scrambler. And frankly for 2B starter i will go for TW200. But i mean its your own preference la. Cos TW this kinna bike is low maintainance and if touch wood drop also less repair.

All very different bikes, you have to think about what type of bike you want. Sport bike, street bike, scrambler. 4 stroke or 2 stroke. Then narrow down your choices. You will find it difficult to decide with so many varied choices.

As for Phantom being an uncle bike, it is true but I think there isn't much point in stereotyping riders of any model of bike. Just ride whatever you want. Riding a Phantom won't turn you into an uncle, riding a cub won't make you Malaysian, riding a supersport doesn't make you any younger than a Harley will make you older.

y bother what pple say? i ride a phantom.. no1 says it looks ah pek or uncle and i have topbox and sidebox on my bike.. that's just stereotyping.. riding a kup doesnt make the rider msian etc.. alot of kup riders own big bike themselves..

get a rs125 if you have the $$ to maintain it.. can consider the yamaha r125 also..

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

For starters my view is maybe try ride RXZ or RXK...

Dont think so, I felt that 2 stroke bikes are more difficult to handle. I find the engine braking not as strong and tends to be too jerky when handled by a starter. Though they are really cheap to own.

phantom 200 would be a good bike for starters but its handling is a little weird if you are used to the driving center's bikes,

btw TS, cbr 150 is a good bike, i'm same height as you and its feels nice to ride, but i dont like the outlook of it, its just looks too skinny and its starting to get really popular with uncles and ahpeks.

I just saw the pricing for a TW 200 and it will cost about 6k for a new one whereas for a new phantom TA200 it will cost about 5k?

Aprilia is definitely out for me now but what about other bikes?

I have rode my friend's phantom for TA200, I loved it.. but after coming back to this forums seeing this and that bike, I'm stuck to confusion again zzz.

TW 200 the reason why I don't prefer it now is because of the fuel consumption. A phantom can easily outbeat the scrambler in terms of fuel consumption.

if a brand new bike price puts you off.. can consider getting a used 1..

in the first place, you are buying a bike for? showoff? convenience? or for fun only?

If want to show off or wad then buy RS125 or R125 loh... very chio...

If wan convenience then can consider TA200 or maybe X9.

For fun then maybe scramblers? or simply, any bike...

But if i have to choose a 2B bike, it will still be TA200 :D -> Cheap, good FC, low maintenance, relaxed posture...

If you do not mind my 2 cents worth...

I have been ridden about close to 20 different bikes during my whole riding experience, ranging from KDX, RG125, scooters, Phantom TA200, Super 4, Shadow ACE and now a Goldwing.

The dilemma most 2B riders face is which bike to buy, and how long they intend to keep before upgrading to class 2A. Most 2B riders would be looking for a bike to hold them till they get their class 2A. If that is the case, looking for a brand new bike would not be financially viable as like cars, they depreciate in value very quickly in the first 2 years. It would not make sense to buy a brand new bike unless you intend to keep it even after you pass your 2A. So what about the current situation?

I suppose you would be weighing the following factors when you purchase your first bike:

Looks and comtemporary fashion upkeep

Fuel consumption

Maintenance efficiency

Value of bike for potential resale

These factors are not in order, it will depend on which you rank as top.

My opinion on the Phantom...

It is a comfortable bike, with the potential of being able to be modified to quite a pretty bike (just look at the Pink Phantom website, they have great looking bikes!)

I suppose it being associated with Ah Peks is because Ah Peks consider the bike being relatively maintenance free (just engine oil change every couple of months) and impressive fuel consumption. In this case, you won't go wrong with what they feel. It's really that.

But if you do not want it to look like an Ah Pek bike, then of course you would have to spruce it up a bit. Ah Peks usually keep it stock with just the addition of the box behind. It definitely looks simple. Adding a crash bar, boxes at the side instead of the back and fog lights can change the whole appearance of the bike, so you may want to consider these factors.

Without being too lor sor, you would be alright going with the following models for good fuel economy and maintenance:

Baja Pulsar

Phantom TA200

Perhaps the Honda NSR too

Scramblers are a different category altogether. They offer raw power, leg room and ruggedness to your riding style. Practically any terrain they can be comfortable with. If you decide on a scrambler, you can forget about fuel economay and practicality. With power comes (responsibility? sorry ah, cannot help it...lame joke) heavier fuel consumption, and having a box on the back of a scrambler just doesn't look nice, unless it's an enduro tourer like the BMW GS1200 etc. So you will probably have to carry your helmets with you everywhere you go. Is that going to be troublesome for you?

So as you can see, once you have weighed these options, your choices are narrowed down, and you probably will know by then which bike you want to buy. The final choice that you have to make for yourself will be, which colour you want? That, you have to decide yourself :)

Hope this helps

To me scramble if you wanna have convinience of box is ok with TW. Fuel consumption. Hmmmm ok la you want good FC Bajaj lor or Honda rebel 125. And like wat skid already mention you cannot have everything like low FC of cos low power. And rebel really is a pain..... Phantom ok la but there are 4stroke and 2stroke.

But IMHO i still think if you wanna buy a 2B bike get a used one instead... Unless you going to stop at 2B forever.... 2B market so many used bike. Like skid mention it all have to be priorities on wat is your main factor. If you still lost and dunno wat you want. Hmmm I dunno abt the rest but IMO i will still choose a TW..... in the market there are alot of other good bikes definately. But TW is a FUN bike for sure.

but he mention he is 1.75 tall... and phantom seat are rather low.

i think he need to consider if he will feel comfortable on the bike anot also.
