Should you pump 95 or 98?

Is there really a big difference between these 2?

If the two fuels were purely fuels with different RON, then the only thing the 98 will do for your vehicle is increase consumption with no added benefits whatsoever. on this (correct) basis, many people will tell you it makes no difference, might as well pump the lower RON save money and fuel.

 

but the truth is, the oil company mixes in additives with the 98 to make your vehicle perform marginally better than if you pumped the 95. so there is a chance that when you pump the 98, you can really 'feel' a difference in performance from your vehicle, so that you are enticed to pump the 98 and pay more as compared to the 95.

 

but, whether you can really 'feel' this or its just your imagination, or you really 'feel' no diff, is anybody's guess. frankly, i only ever feel a difference between v-power and others, but i catch no 'feel' between standard 95 vs 98. but the increase in consumption with v-power, or with 98 vs a 95, you confirm can see. I pump 95.

If youre talking abt 98 giving more power, then no. Its just that for example esso 98 & v power have extra or higher dose of lubricating additives in their fuels compared to 95 fuels. This extra lubrication makes engine run smoother & hence easier to rev up & accelerate away. Hence the feel as if there is an increase in power.

 

So if youre regularly riding on xpressway use 98 cos the enjoyment of this extra smoothness can only be felt at higher revs. But if youre mostly riding in tight urban traffic or stop go traffic, use 95 cos at these lower rev ranges you really cant tell the diff.

 

That being said, there is a diff betn esso 95 & 98. But theres no real diff betn shell 95 & 98. Only with v power.

 

I use esso 98. But im making effort to go JB more often to top up with V power 97 racing. Its only Rm 3.20 per litre!

of course there is a scientific difference between 95 & 98.

 

but whether we, as run-of-the-mill riders, can feel this difference, is another thing.

 

whether there is a difference to our engines, is also another matter..

 

we're not motogp riders, or riding in a lab environment.

 

ride, stop. traffic light. traffic jam. a bit of expressway. a lot of engine idling at the traffic light.

whatever additives that supposedly improve fuel economy, or improve power/performance.. won't be felt by us.

 

its a placebo effect I tell u.

 

I have been pumping 95 in sportsbikes n touring bikes.

not gonna waste $$ n make the petrol companies richer if I can.

92 for me for all bikes regardless of cc...more important is ur maintenance...cheers

i tried both 95, 98 and of course the most atas fuel Vpower

all no difference that i can tell leh.

 

i am not sure psychological effect or not as Vpower seems to more power, but i cannot honestly say with conscious got SIGNIFICANT difference
