LTA Vehicle Inspection

Bros,

Recently went to LTA ( Sin Ming) for appealing regarding signal lights .

Those were passing for the past three years with the same inspection centre VIC#m & btw i got those default from the bike shop, as i bought the bike from bike shop.

The officer advised me, when a bike comes under your care , the owner is responsible for everything on it. Whether the inspection centres pass you now and two years later they fail you, its upto their mood. So to be on safe part, bikers or drivers should call LTA and confirm the parts & should install. He told me to follow the rules blindly & no questions should be asked.:dot:

I went back , changed to stock signal lights & paid the fine 100 as well.

2cents worth advise, stick to stock and no cosmetic mods is better.:)

Up to their moods? Now that is so professional.

Follow rules blindly and cannot ask questions? :sly:

Common sense thrown out the window.

The officier told me, " I am also a rider & i do understand the concerns from bikers point of view. Even though technically makes sense. just follow as the rules says "...

The officer is like those who are unhappy with the current ruling party but year in year out still vote for them. Gets screwed every time.

Just to update, current inspection still very stringent..

I ride a CBR400, went to same inspection centre(STA inspection centre @ boonlay) past 2 years, always passed at first try.

Today I went back same inspection centre, they fail my front disc brake(not original) and rear signal light(led).

so sad, think original brake disc gonna cost quite a bomb! and don't know can still find original cbr400 rear signal light anot..

Actually it sounds like a good idea to get things changed by the previous owner if they are found by the inspectors to be illegal. But just check with the bike shop or your experience friends is good enough. No need send for inspection

Part 1) make anything not oem outlawed. Heard from friend, chain downsize e.g. 525 to 520 also not allowed. Open exhaust fail. How many sp out there, kantung not yet open to decarb?

Part 2) make it such that maintaining old bikes with spares hard to come by, prohibitively expensive.

Part 3) bikers scrap bikes which are difficult to maintain due to dearth of oem parts.

Part 4) send 15% of the scrapped coe to open cat.

Part 5) gain from increased revenue, take opportunity to declare bonus for a job well done.

Tongue in cheek, cynical look at it all. I support nothing nor am affiliated to no one.

Smile! Tomorrow will be worse.

Hi All

Generally looking for a little advice as I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.

My bike is rare in Singapore and the previous owner dropped it. Only minor damage, however the one piece which is proving difficult to have sorted is the exhaust. The damage isn't huge, however its started to rust on the impact area and there is some depression on the muffler.

I have two questions

1. If it goes for inspection, is this going to be a problem? Its very clear to see, and although i don't see it as an issue currently; it will become one eventually with the rusting. I wonder if the test ctr's will be funny about it.

2. Given I don't think it looks that attractive and I will have to change eventually, I was looking at a replacement. The problem is I cant get an OEM one in Singapore, there just aren't any. The only ones I can find are in the US and are almost 1k US, an aftermarket is half this amount. If I have an aftermarket one fitted here in Singapore (with paperwork stating its for the bike and the receipts of a proper fitting) what are the odds of it going through the evaluation?

Has anyone actually done this independently of the larger makers such as Leo Vince etc which are proven aftermarkets bought from dealers here.

Any help would be appreciated.

Most likely, any non OEM exhaust or modifications to it will fail the inspection.

You can try the long route.. via talk cock sing song with LTA to get permission seeing that your bike is rare with no OEM parts in sg. This is a long and tiresome red tape filled journey.

My suggestion is to keep your stock pipe, change to aftermarket.. 'every year do that thing u do'.

Some harley riders tried this route to get their after market exhausts approved.. in short.. u can try but LTA no guarantee u buy liao we will approve.

That's really helpful, makes interesting reading and shows this will take quite a bit of work.

Thanks though, it certainly shows me there's no easy way lol

We can only speculate. The final decision is not made by us. To know the answer you have to just go for the inspection.
