Sigh it's time for me to change my rubbers again....Maybe changing tomorrow as my front is going to be botak real soon. But got no idea to change which one.

Critirials:

1. Good road holding ability,

2. Lasting (a bit hard to strike a balance for soft, grippy and and hardness)

3. Cheap or not too expensive,

4. Quiet.(dun wish to feel so much feedback from the rubber with the ground)

Hope not to get Metzzeler as got some bad experience with it. Not grippy esp when rainy day(too not grippy liao la, got wheel lock a few time and almost crashed!).

Recently, my collegues phantom did a hard braking and he sound is those of rubber dragging sound. Mine was like a hard cardboard rubbing the floor, not much like those normal sound of rubber screeching.

Tot of change to Dunlop or Bridgestone leh......

What is you guy's opinion? Please enlighten me. Thanks

Hmm....just changed both my rubbers to IRC tyres. At first quite reluctant to change to this brand as it's reputation is not that good. But was told by the mechanic (not the salesman that persuaded me). He said IRC not bad then i told him Phantom's IRC tires and he said that one cannot not la. Well, infact i was sucked into it when i saw the tyre's thread patterns. It is made in Japan and after i feel the rubber texture, i quite like that.

Of cos, there are more to come and update after a period of usage then can see the potential of it. The Model is IRC Wild Flare. The pic below shows it.

While riding back, i try to season them by zik zacking on the road. Em... the front is not so responsive (a bit heavy feeling) and while try to drop corner, at certain angle it seems like drop very fast. Maybe still not season not round much yet. By the way do not attempt to 'play' the tires when they are new, got seaon it till the waxing gone first.

For me, its always been Pirellis. I've stuck with them for my Phantoms and now using them again for my front Steed rubbers. Thinking of getting one for my rear as my rear Metzelers are wearing out soon.

Why? I dunno. After using them for my Phantom, found Pirelli rubbers to have quite a good grip on the road. Did several tight corners with confidence. Haven't tried other brands but think I'll stick with them.....

pirellis are gd on dry condition..

but on wet condition, it tends to fishtail easily if depress too much of rear brakes..

happened too many time to count already..

but other than not enuff traction on wet conditions, there are no other qualms abt pirellis...

It's the best you must feel confident with the tyres when i you are doing cornering. I still in search of a good pair of tyres for my Shadow which suits me. Unlike when riding road bike, i feel confident with Bridgestone Battalax BT96. Good, soft and quite lasting tyre for my CBR. I got scared by Metz. So will try all possible for it, unless got ppl recomend me that makes. As little of my friend ride Cruiser so got not much ppl provide good resource of feedback. Now just hope my IRC WildFlare can proof me right that they are good. Still, i prefer Dunlop or Bridgestone tyres. MAybe it's their reputation makes me feel so. But they are EXPENSIVE!

Till now, i find my Wild Flare rubbers are quite soft when riding. Em...soft in the sense that you feel your bike got a bit of soft cushioning effect when riding, quite comfy. But also at the same time quite a bit of feedback also. I guess it's the grooves that make it feel so. Or the tyre got pump too hard.

anyone knows the diff between bias-ply n radial tracked tyres? saw the description in a mag...but dun really know wat the fook it is....the general idea is dun mix bias ply n radial together or else handling performance will be affected....but how to differeciate?

http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/301627_10150300464615267_702800266_8095265_1305808511_n.jpg

teh construction of the carcass between a bias ply and radial tire is different, and hence they flexes at a different rate, bias ply tires tends to run hotter compare to radial, hence iregularity in this factors causes inconsistency in terms of grip...

i see...thanx 4 da reply...

OK. Since got our fellow Cruiser with Dragstar looking for tires, i think i want to do some review on my current pair of IRC Wild Flare.

So far so good for me since the change of the pair in Sept 03. coming to 6 mths soon. ONLY 1 Wheel locking or fishtailing experience on Wild Flare. Recently jam my E-brake hard on trying to avoid a kuku cabby who make the car in front of me braking. And when i jammed my brake hard the rear just got a litttle locking effect with very very short period(i think less than 1sec) on a sandy and dusty road.

Road holding is good, of cos not as good like those on racing models cos we cannot 'cup' corners with a heavy and long machine. Cruiser tires need to be semi hard, if not the weight of the machine will burn up the rubber real fast. Try put a pair of Battlelax 010 on Shadow and you will know.

Wear and tear. Erm....can i say quite ok. A little bit faster then my old Metzeler. Feel slightly soft after ride. Did not really gives those 'plasticky' sensation.

Noise level. Noisy when riding on those red or colored brick pavement which going into the carpark. On the road. You can feels slightly vibrations when you are moving. As the cuts on the tire bites into the raod surface.

Will update if got anymore feedbacks on my pair of rubbers.

Hope this can help.

I got my IRC Wild Flare for $250. Front and rear. I think it's abit expensive. If you really want perhap you can try to survey ard bike shop first. Or see if you can find IRC distributor locally.

dunlop tyre how much for 100/90/19 & how many model is there

Forget about Metzeler, doesnt last. Model ME33 which I been using, the outer layer tends to separate from the inner core. Maybe our climate too hot for the material Metzeler is using. This is my second pair and it is happening again within 3 to 6 months. But not too sure about the new V series, suppose to be better than the ME series.

Dunlop and bridgestone suits more to our climate, never had bad experiences from them. In terms of road holding, personally feel dunlop got an edge.

:cheer:

wanna ride with madness?

How are you getting along with your Dunlops? Time for me to change tires soon... Your feedback is appreciated.

Nonetheless, any new tires of late that are recommended for Shadows?

I am using 020 on my Version S. It Sticky, good for anking. Feel good with it. But traveling at 70-80km/h, the handle bar will vibrate. Not so good on wet grounds too.

Define Danger

More time on road = More Danger

Less time on road = Less Danger

Slower Speed = More Time On Road

Faster Speed = Less Time on Road

Thus

Less Time on Road = Less Danger = Faster Speed~~

i also getting dunlop for my shadow... heard from a sai leh that this pair of wheels will only cost around 200 at HKL ...

anyone wanna mess purchase together so that we can really get it at this rate or lower.....

Dunlop !!! Dunlop !!! Dunlop !!!

A brief review of my tires:

Front: Dunlop F24

Rear: Bridgestone G524

i can only review them together.

In the dry, both tires give me very good grip. i feel confident and comfortable riding with them. So much so that in the first few weeks, i kept scraping my footpeg on the road when i make a corner. i was going that low on my Slasher.

In the wet though, somehow they don't inspire me with much confidence. Especially the front Dunlop. It feels slippery somehow. But it could just be me who don't like to ride in the wet.

i've locked my rear wheel a couple of times in the wet. Never buang though. But i think that's more to do with the lower centre of gravity of the Slasher and width of the tyre more than anything else.

Went HKL and they quote me the price for a dunlop for about $200++ asked ah koon @ depot road about how much he can get and he also mentioned the market price now is around $200++ too...

haiz... dunno to get it from HKL or from my trusty mechanic @ depot rd....

anyway this is my final two choice but I need more feed back in term of both of them..

1) Dunlop tires...

HKL people mentioned that dunlop tires will skidd when wet weather and not really good on corner..

2) Bridgestone tires...

Some feedback I heard is that is grip well while cornering but then it will dry up easily as this tires is for cold weather preformance... also if it is too dry they tends to wear off faster...

more feedback pls... anyone....

a_sai_leh and CS .... lai lai.... ur contribute on the tires leh.... where to get cheaper...

Yes, I concur on that. Seriously, Dunlop sucks on wet roads, I damn stress during rain. And last week, fish tail on PIE. Luckily never buang.

Which tire model cost $200++ as you have recce-ed?

OK.....It is 2 mths plus before my chg of IRC Wildflare rubbers dated Sept last year. After some wear and tear. Here is the recent review on my IRC's.

I think i want to do some review on my current pair of IRC Wild Flare.

So far so good for me since the change of the pair in Sept 03. coming to 10 mths soon. ONLY a few Wheel locking or fishtailing experience on Wild Flare. (I Jammed the braked really hard to check out the rubber sound).

Road holding is good, of cos not as good like those on racing models cos we cannot 'cup' corners with a heavy and long machine. But i have tried cupping a few. Well, can hold by it's own. Can drop fairly well. BUt not as low as racing spec.

Wear and tear. Erm....can i say quite ok. A little bit faster then my old Metzeler. Feel slightly soft after ride. Did not really gives those 'plasticky' sensation. Front rubber abt 50% rubber used after 10 mths, rear only abt 20% used.

Noise level. Normal. abit louder than those softer compound.

Hope this can help.

In fact, it's is very difficult to strike a good balance between durability and great handling. Some are too expensive and not suitable for daily usage as with good gripping properties but wear out very easily. Some are cheap and hard, so hard till it even skid at the slightest tap of brake.

Ultimately, it all depend on how we view on what we are expecting our rubbers to perform. Good money value but ruin our track day's mood. Good traction but money burn like the rubber buring on the floor. :)

haiz... i just checked the price for dunlop and brigdestone.. was told that dunlop is around $255 & brigdestone only $5 - $10 cheaper....

I still can't decide which to get... whoelse beside CS using bridgestone tires har? what's the review for it....

Hey Goovi,

i use rear Bridgestone G524. So far i'm impressed so much so that i'm planning to ride all Bridgestones when it's time to change my front.

Scroll up a bit and you'll read a small review by me of my 2 tires.

Reasons for wanting to get Bridgestones:

1. The Dunlop F24 i'm using feels slippery on wet roads, but the Bridgestone feels pretty good. i've not fishtailed ever.

2. My Dunlop is already showing significant wear compared to my Bridgestones. But it could just be that way with cruisers, the way they load the tires. However, i can only say with certainty after i've tried the Bridgestone fronts if it's the tires or the loading.

3. i have this theory that it is best to have both tires from the same make as it should give the same consistency and hence better handling of the bike.
