guys i hav alr put in my order for a 60csx via amazon...wooo hooo...

erm...have been trying to get feedback on a mounting systems via web search.

Suggested Mount:

Touratech- Good But Expensive

Ram- 50/50 some had bad experience.eg. dropping of GPS, vibration causing unit to shut down or flicker due to vibration.

Any advise on which ram mount to get???

and which workshop does a good electrical work?

I am thinking of getting a powerlet from limbat and hopefully he can provide a on-off switch so that I can connect it directly to my battery.

Since you ordered your 60CSx, you should quickly add the ram mount and the power cable. This power cable forms a waterproof seal with the 60CSx unlike if you are using the USB connection.

Don't worry about vibration etc, I can assure you that the 60CSx will survive any kind of ride. For GPS mount, it's only Ram Mount.

The 60CSx is very versatile, it can take both 5v or 12v. Using the 12v cable, all you need is to connect it directing to the battery. If you want that power to be switching, then tap it from your headlight or one of the fuses that is controlled with ignition. if you only want the cable when necessary, then run a snap connector for easy connection and removal. Save yourself from adding another power-socket, and you can DIY.

tks for the info :)

and here's some info for everyone, a compass is more useful than a gps when riding south of Ulaanbaatar towards the gobi.

forget the maps, there are no roads, no signs, no buildings, nothing for landmarks but the direction of the overhead sun!~

any magnetic compass will have deviation error, can be as much as 30 degrees, induced by the bike frames and the electo-magnetic interference especially at the instrument areas.

a gps can still be very useful because you can plan the route using waypoints, as that you give you the critical information such as distance, arrival time. Just like navigating in the sea.

Hi all,

I need assistance again. Just got my 60Csx and got my mapsource settled via the enclosed CD and downloaded the driver software fr Garmin.

However, my norton does not allow me to install the MFM. I tried twice fr 2 different sites and both time , it states that threat has been removed.

Should I disable norton?

Posted

aft quite abit of internet search.... i managed to install MFM on my 60Csx...YEa!!!

anw, here's what i did:

- for those with notron, pls turn off the "download intel" when downloading and installing the MFM

- follow installation instructions as per MFM advise on their site

- connect ur gps unit to the comp for map transfer aft it has been installed in the comp

- remember to turn on the gps and also to turn on the usb interface on the 60csx

- if using a card reader to upload into ur micro sd card of more than 1G, pls ensure that ur card reader is spec for this kind of SD card.

- mine is a outdated old card reader, hence it did not pick up the sd card.he

- i had to connect directly to the gps unit.

time to play!! yea....

There will be support but no local warranty in Singapore.

These sets are highly reliable and fully tested before leaving factory, chances of a warranty claim is extremely low. Especially with favorable exchange rate against the USD, it makes the Amazon deal very attractive even without local warranty

Locally, the 60CSx is retailing about $420 - $460 before GST.

that is true if what looks like passable conditions for riding on the map differs from what is actually present.

u end up going about making spontaneous routes based on what u sight and endurance, time and distance becomes a secondary concern.

anything new & exciting happening in the gps world?

mine's 4yrs old and on the verge of replacement, :)

any particular reason why you want to receive Map from Device, especially when it is a MFM Map ?

Since all MFM installations will automatically update the Mapsource first before asking if you want to generate the gmapsupp.img

I think the zumo 660 do not have the OS like the later generation such as the Nuvi 1xxx, 2xxx or 3xxx where the users are at liberty to name their "img" files as they like.

So if that's the case, "gmapcmap.img" will not be recognised by the system. The file names that are recognised by the device are :

Main Memory

1. gmapbmap.img - basemap (basically it's the blank map of the world)

2. gmapprom.img - preinstalled map ie. if the GPS was bought in US, you get Garmim US map, or bought in Singapore, Garmin NT map of Singapore...etc

3. gmapprom1.img - additional map

4. gmapsupp.img - additional map

5. gmapoem.img - additional map but this map cannot be deselected

Check your X:\Garmin folder to see what are the file names already used, and play around with the last three file names.

I rename the file gmapsupp to gmapcmap to prevent my old maps from being overwritten..

If you had followed the MFM installation 100%, your gmapsupp.img would have already been written over. So you need to make this clear for us to help.

For SD card, only name recognised is "gmapsupp.img", and make sure it resides in the Garmin folder.

I first save in my com and when i save in the zumo i name it gmapsupp2 before allowing it to save..

Trying the SD card again.
