I think the zumo 660 do not have the OS like the later generation such as the Nuvi 1xxx, 2xxx or 3xxx where the users are at liberty to name their "img" files as they like.

So if that's the case, "gmapcmap.img" will not be recognised by the system. The file names that are recognised by the device are :

Main Memory

1. gmapbmap.img - basemap (basically it's the blank map of the world)

2. gmapprom.img - preinstalled map ie. if the GPS was bought in US, you get Garmim US map, or bought in Singapore, Garmin NT map of Singapore...etc

3. gmapprom1.img - additional map

4. gmapsupp.img - additional map

5. gmapoem.img - additional map but this map cannot be deselected

Check your X:\Garmin folder to see what are the file names already used, and play around with the last three file names.

Thank you brother, can already.. Try both ways in my SD card and the Zumo itself. Name it gmapprom1. I think i last night didnt add a folder in the SDcard (Garmin).

Does this work the same as the 500 series?

Has it been updated? My 60Cx is still working fine. How did it hang? You mean it stopped calculating?

Since the 60CSx has no internal memory, the fault could be in the map or the SDcard. If there is an inherent fault in the mfm map, it would have already been reported in the forum.

There are a few ways to narrow down the fault but I'm not sure what is your level of competency.

Try this for a start, generate a new gmapsupp.img, but save it onto another SD card. Even better, if you're proficient with Mapsource, send just the SINGAPORE map tile to the device. If your device still hangs, it would most likely be a firmware issues.

If it's a firmware or OS issues, it's about time to upgrade :p

for those who might be interested in chinese/japanese capable units, you'd need the Japanese version of the 60CSx-J or 62S-J. a list is available here: http://www.iiyo.net/outdoor/products.htm Take note that Iiyo.net (Japan's Garmin distributor) seems to have hacked their firmware for use in Japan. the units are not practical for use outside of japan - but they can show Unicode (i think!) fonts - which essentially means, Chinese/Japanese words.

i have some basic review (sort of!) on the English and Japanese 60CSx - check under "Equipment Listing". i can't link directly to the page as the URL keeps on dynamically changing.

there is also a a Yahoo Group based on the 60CSx family - try this URL

we've been mainly disccussing abt gps for navigation, how about tracking?

we all worry about our bikes being stolen across the causeway, anyone has used a hidden live gps tracker?

I have seen some pretty interesting ones on sale online but they might not work outside the US of A.

garmin gpu-10 looks very economical and promising with free 1 yr of tracking, long battery life and waterproof.

but appears that singapore is not bringing it in.

anyone with other suggestions?>

ooh that looks handy... Anyone tried it before ?

Doesn't say if it needs 3G or if 2G is sufficient. When going to JB, it would mean the sim card you put in it must have roaming if it's a SG simcard..

yes, depending on setup, roaming is going to be costly if tracking is in 5sec intervals unless data charge is unlimited for every single day ure across the border.

Hi gurus...

Need help, I have tried asking dealers locally who can not give me specific answer and tried searching online but again not straight forward answers or maybe its me who is not reading it correctly. Anyway here is my question.

I have been using 60csx with Mapsource for abt 2 years now and is very happy with it. Have bought Rotweiler map, Jerome map and also Malsing maps. MFM is somewhat diff for mapsource as they stop updating for mapsource and concentrate on the newer map format only? Or am I wrong again...

Anyway recently abit itchy hand and feel like upgrading to touch screen Garmin product - Oregon. But understand that oregon uses Basecamp instead of mapsource. So the question here is can I use oregon with my current mapsource and the maps that I have? Will Oregon communicate properly with mapsource and also is the transfer of waypoints, routes, maps the same way as 60csx?

Thanks in advance for helping.

Don't understand this question. MFM is updated every week, and it incorporates a mapsource installer which updates the MFM map in Mapsource before generating a "gmapsupp.img" file.

Even without a Mapsource Installer, an IMG file, it can still be updated in Mapsource with this application, MapSetToolkit. Too much to explain, read here :

http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-load-.img-files-into-mapsource-with-mapsettoolkit/

No.

Although the files created in Oregon are in "gpx" format, the way they are stored is different from the 60CSCx thus Mapsource will not be able to receive these files. However, you can still manually import these files from the Oregon, and open them individually with Mapsource. Say you have 5 POIs created in the Oregon, you will open in manually in each Mapsource, and CUT & PASTE them in a single Mapsource so that all 5 POIs can be viewed in a same Mapsource window.

The shorter and quicker way is learn to use Basecamp :p

Hi Demon

Thanks for your answer.

The question regarding MFM is that I have tried to download MFM before and work on mapsource but when I transfer to 60CSx it doesn't show the map. Then when I try asking in MFM the answer I got was they stop updating for mapsource and concentrate on the new NT format or something like that and told me that the last version of MFM that I can use on my mapsource is v1.62 and that is what I have been doing, so instead I use MSM. And of course Jerome maps for Singapore as he is more updated for Singapore map.

So if I want to switch to Oregon, it will means I can only use Basecamp. And would Basecamp be able to use the following maps that I am using in mapsource:

1) Jerome Wee

2) MSM

3) Rotweiler

4) MFM

Thanks again for taking the time to help a old time noob :) haha

The NT format will have problems running on the older GPS but it should not affect the Mapsource. I am running Mapsource v6.13.7 (latest version is v6.16.3) and I have no problem installing the latest MFM v110411. If your mapsource is really the problem, getting the latest mapsource update is FOC.

So if I want to switch to Oregon, it will means I can only use Basecamp. And would Basecamp be able to use the following maps that I am using in mapsource:

when you install Basecamp, it will automatically install all the maps that you have already installed in the Mapsource. So once you launch Basecamp, all the maps will be there.
