Remember I had this kind like power cut problem when accelerating at between 100-140km/h.

Well I think solved already.

Last night tested at 2nd link, no problem.

What I did, remove the airbox cover.

May be not enough air for the carb.

Hi fellow XJR members..

I need your help. I'm finding a bike for my daily transportation needs and it simply boils down to the XJR400 and the ehemm CB400SF. To tell you the truth, XJR400 is my first love and the CB400SF is the 2nd choice due to no choice in mind. Would i be having problems in finding parts for it?? Is it a problematic bike?? Sorry to ask..

I did ask a friend who's working as a bike salesman at a popular bike shop but was turned off by his remarks: "no resale value and hard to find parts.. no good bike". So that really gets me confused and lost. But still, i love this bike to bits and itself being rare, makes it more convincing to me. And i've already seen a used model for sale.

Care to advise plss??..

Thanks guys... :)

Ur friend is right:

- Low Resale value

- Parts hard to find

But ur friend is wrong abt the bike being a "no good bike". I have rode the Super4 (in BBDC and also my brother's) and still prefers XJR. TO tell you the truth, "low resale value" part can be an advantage for you. You can get a resale bike really cheap!

And since you want to use the XJR as an "everyday" bike, XJR triumphs in this. Why? Read Below:

- S4 needs Coolant, XJR no need. XJR is oil-cooled and so, less maintainance. So, SAVE $$$.

- XJR only needs 2 Litres of Engine Oil where as S4 needs 3 or 4litres (i cant remember). So, everytime you want to change oil, you can opt for a higher grade one coz only need 2 bottles. So, SAVE $$$.

- Parts are a bit hard to find. BUT! If you know a shop which specialises in Yamaha bikes, there should be no prob. (so far i have no prob in this area... maybe just need to order a day or two in advance, that's all).

- The built-in parts of the XJR is much much more superior than S4. XJR uses Ohlin Bikes and Brembo Brakes while the S4 uses showa and dunno wat brand for the brakes.

So, there you go. I hope this post will make you make up ur mind.

Oh ya... XJR have a higher end speed than the S4... but S4 have higher acceleration speed.

Hi guys (skirtchaser & boneyprominence) First of all, let me congratulate u guys on choosing a Yamaha XJR over a Honda S4... I used to like Honda bikes because of the petrol consumption, but I have already chosen to be a Yamaha fan due to superior handling and design as compared to a Honda... Now, what I am gonna post are postings that I have posted earlier, #2420 and #2677... Hopefully after reading these posts, you guys get a clearer picture of the XJR on a more - objective point of view...

As quoted from my posting #2420

Oh, I got sumthin to tell u.... between a VersionS and a Fighting Spirit, the handling and pickup on an XJR is waaaaay superior than a VerS... U juz open the throttle, and the engine just ROARS!!! VROOOOOOOOM!!!!! XJR has ultra-light handling when compared to a VerS and handles superbly when sharp cornering, and the handlebar does not shake or rattle at top speed... It cuts the wind like knife through water.... To help u visualise - imagine the nimbleness of the 'kapcai' with the power of a VerS, plus the muscular look of a class 2 bike... that's genius.... Please keep this a secret between us, if not the 'mat-rapes' from the neighbouring threads might declare war on us.... They have NO idea what they are missing out on.... in other words, 'ignorance is bliss', 'people fear what they do not know', and that's why 'familiarity breeds content' - which explains why EVERYBODY ELSE buys the Super 4.... except the XJRers!!!! :cheer:

As quoted from my post #2677

hi guys...

great seeing all of you so active...

i m seriously considering to get a XJR400 real soon...

any kind souls can share with me more abt the ride?

e.g. frequently faced problems, parts prone to repair, FC?

also on a good estimate of the price tat i shd prepare to pay...

p.s. i rode a S4 verS before and also a gsxr4 before...

thanks alot in advance!

ride safe,

joshli

hello bro joshli!!! I'm a new XJRer, coz I sold off my VerS in February to buy my current ride, an XJR400 Fighting Spirits at a bargain of $1.7k.... I cannot compare my XJR with the newer XJRs coz it's an entirely different version... Firstly, my fuel tank is about 18 litres, as compared to the newer 20 litre ones, and my FC is about 15.5 km/l (however, the members say it's high due to the way I ride - e.g high-speed sprints at traffic light junctions, minimum speed limit of 90km/h, etc...)

However, this is what I am able to compare: My XJR comes with OHLINs suspensions, as with all XJRs.... 1st of all, a pair of OHLINs suspensions is more expensive than the S4 SHOWAS ($1600 as compared to SHOWA's $900-$1000).... As generally known by the biking community, OHLINs suspensions provide better shock absorbing qualities as compared to the SHOWAs...

2ndly, handling of the XJR feels lighter, more maneuverable as compared to the S4 VerS. The VerS requires a greater turning radius and feels rather bulky if you try to do a sharp banking maneuver... However, as for the XJR, all you have to do is to see where you want to turn to, 'throw' the bike into the corner and VIOLA!!! u have just experienced an exhilarating sharp cornering....

3rdly, it has better acceleration as compared to the VerS... At traffic light junctions, I had trouble keeping up with the KRs, Gileras and 'kapcai's especially when they sprint off 1st... However, with the XJR, I can still afford to let them move off 1st before zipping past them effortlessly....

4thly, XJRs only use TWO, i repeat, TWO, i repeat again, TWO litres of engine oil as compared to three (VerS) and four (Specs)... This is economical as I service my bike and replace my fully synthetic engine oil every 3-4000 km.. Doing so on the S4s is rather expensive... (However I do understand that most S4 riders 'love' their bikes to the extent that they send for servicing every 3-4 'MONTHS'..)

5th, we are air-cooled, therefore we need not worry about coolants, overheating, etc... Air-cooled bikes are rather hard to find for big bikes (the other that I know of is the YAMAHA XJ900s Diversions)

I have highlighted the Pros of the XJR... To be fair, as I rode on the S4 VerS before, I hold it in high regard.... The Hondas are highly reliable, 10 years, no major problems (just a yearly change of rectifier and battery)... VERY VERY VERY GOOD petrol consumption... 20-22km/l (maybe because it has low acceleration...) And here's the major point.... CB400s are so widely popular as it is the most obvious choice for any Class 2A rider, which further reinforces it's reputation as a "TAXI" motorcycle.... (I mean, it's 'local' parts and accessories are so easily available, as compared to Yamahas which only uses GENUINE parts...)

Last of all, I intended to make my bike to look like a MEDIC bike, so after doing up the bike, I feel that my bike resembles more of a typical CERTIS CISCO patrol bike, simply because they use HONDAs.... Therefore, since the Singapore Traffic Police, Land Transport Authority and numerous other police forces around the world choose the YAMAHAs over the HONDAs, I have since become a fan of YAMAHA bikes..... I intend to upgrade to either the YAMAHA Diversion 900 (my dream bike) or the YAMAHA FJR1300 (my girlfriend's choice)....

Yamaha XJR bikes are generally oil-cooled, aidded by the air(as you ride about) & NO Coolant to worry about thus no overheating or messy coolant leaks.

In Sgp, there is two.

1. Yamaha Fighting Spirits (with a smaller tank of 18litres)

2. Yamaha XJR400R (with a tank of 20 litres)

I have presented to you the 1996 XJR400R (Fighting Spirits) as it is very rare and as far as I have seen, is about 4 pieces. As for the 2002 XJR400R (new), I'll let the rest who ride the new XJR furnish u with the details.

Oh, one more thing... BOTH the 1996 XJR400R 'Fighting Spirits' and 2002 XJR400R are air-cooled. I have also provided you with more XJR pictures and technical babble in the references below. Hopefully u'll come to appreciate the uniqueness of the XJR and may you ride the XJR one day.

my bro, Yamamoto, your missus & baby gal,

myself & wife just wanted to wish u guy a congratulation for such a beautiful baby. holding her in my arm, she was looking so still & serene, with her eyes close, she looked so at ease.

I came twice, so i was really hoping to hold her, by the second time. and thus, i quickly took the chance upon seeing your baby gal.

Sham & Sal was also there with me & Shidah on both nights. I just feel that i got to see you guys & celebrate a fair bit on her birth, our 'first' XJR baby.

Sad to hear that you had that accident on the morning after. I hope the cost for repairing is all not that too high. Lucky thing that you WERE using a renthal hande. At least your tank is not damage abeit very minor scratches. I'm just glad to be able to help a friend in need. i know your love for the bike, so i was merely just helping you, that is all, like any friend that would.

Seeing you in bandages & swollen fingers, well, at least its not all that bad. Maybe you were just tired out after going thru & fro the hospital.

Now that you & yanti & baby is home, take a good rest my bro.

Cos, you deserves it.

At least Bekok trip is two months away....:cheeky:
