Depends on what brand and model your helmet is. Some come in the same shell sizes (the inserts make the difference between S, M, L. S have thinner inserts, L have thicker inserts). Some have different shell sizes (M will have smaller overall shell dimensions, L larger).

If your helmet comes in different shell sizes, then I think changing the inserts might not be of much use (because I suppose the inserts will have the same thickness for all sizes, and the shell of L is already larger than M). So you'll still won't feel snug. You're basically just changing a new set of inserts.

And if you get M inserts (supposed to be thinner) to fit into L helmet (with a larger shell), it'll be even more loose! You should be getting XL inserts instead. Actually to think of it, the inserts of different sizes might not be able to fit. I think best is to check with the shop. They should know their products :)

Anyone wanna add in more information? And please correct me if I'm wrong :)

Heyy man! i totally agree with you! I think it's different helmet for different inserts - in fact, getting another size insert might mean you might not be able to stuff it in at all, or it won't stick to the shell, which is just as or more dangerous than a loose helmet!

However, this is only my guess (cos i do product design), and yes, the best way to find out would be to check with the shop :)

sigh... it's for agv airtech. tried to sell it in the forum for only $150, still no buyer. so i need to work something out to be able to use the helmet now. was thinking of using the M size paddings for my shell. as i know that this model only comes with 2 shell sizes but the prob is i don't know which is which. perhaps, S is small shell with thick pad. M is small shell with thin pad. L is big shell with thick pad and XL is big shell with thin pad. my only hope is that both M and L sizes are of the same shell. so i can just replace the cheekpads rather than buying a whole new full face.

I'm using AGV Stealth. For my model, the S size has a smaller shell size compared to the L. Don't know whether it'll be the same for your Airtech.

I think I got it wrong .. if your helmet's M and L size have the same shell, and if you get M inserts, it should feel tighter. Sorry about that!

Don't sell your helmet first lah, you'll suffer a great loss, and most people won't buy 2nd-hand helmets. Check with Regina first (if that's where you bought it).

Piercingpain - welcome! its good to know that there are more people bringing options to the bikers here in Singapore. I'm here on a business trip to Sydney and I see that most of the bikers do gear up - unlike Singapore...

The MOQ issue is a bit tricky too. I face the same issues to bring in kevlar lined jeans under my PMO cos the factory starts manufacturing on the basis of at least 10 jeans per size...I had thought that it would not be too difficult to get about 5-6 people per jean size - but its been a bit slow..

Well, I will perservere - and see what happens at the end of the day...

cheers and good luck and ride safe!!!

Ang mohs are more careful about their bodies and well being it seems. Sometimes to the point of outward kiasi-ness.

While us Asians are more apt to tough it out.

It's a good thing, them gearing up. But seriously, it won't work here. For them, perhaps biking is a lifestyle or weekend activity. In SG, we use it to commute.

Can you imagine ATGATT to the nearest fccuking shopping mall? WTF?

Think it's also more practical for them to wear a leather jacket because the weather is cooler and less humid compared to tropical Asia.

That is why I prefer to take a bus if I'm going shopping .. sounds kind of stupid. Got bike still take bus. But sometimes it's interesting to travel on a bus. Get to experience and see a lot, and you don't have to keep your eyes on the road. Just sit back and relax ..

Yea. Prob climate too.

But not just shopping. Let's say it's a movie, or a little window shopping.

Imagine wearing your touring pants, touring jacket and riding boots while walking around in Takashimaya.

It WON'T work here, this ATGATT sh1t. ATGATT is meant for touring only, in our context.

atgatt may be too much. But i guess there are some minimal protection one should wear while commuting in singapore. singlets, shorts, slippers are obscene!

ok. i've went to the shop. and luckily size M and L are of the same shell. so, i can just buy the inner pads meant for size M which will cost around $70 or so. but the sad case is that the stock will only come in a few weeks time which don't sound really convincing.

Wah so costly. I'm sure can bargain further. In the meantime you can wear your spare helmet if you have one .. no point wearing a helmet that doesn't fit well, cause it won't give you the intended protection in case of a crash *TOUCH WOOD*

come to think of it, i have 3 helmets. one is that airtech, another is the evolution helmet but very smelly already! wanna throw it away cos tried washing the insides but to no avail. so i just kept it for emergency. and another one is the one i used for deliveries, a lousy free helmet which is quite comfy but gives not much protection. and that's why i wanna get an EVO helmet as a spare one and for deliveries.

is it very costly? cos he says its for the cheek pads and the head liners and all that can be changed la. otherwise, what is the supposedly cost of that?

I don't know how much it costs but sounds very expensive for 2 pieces of foam. Why should you use a cheap helmet for deliveries? Continue to use a decent full face. You are not immune to accidents during deliveries man. Can get an affordable OGK full face for less than $200. If not you can get a NoLan flip up for slightly more - I think.

could u bargain down the prices if you get the inner lining for both the evo and the airtech? should be better - after all, the shell's perfectly fine, unless u threw it around or it's really old!

it's not about affordable or not. cos i do mac deliveries for this time being. a full face is totally not practical.

even with my half face, it's freaking hot and stuffy. i think i will bake under a full face!! i thought of getting a HJC IS-33 but importing it will be troublesome. also thought of getting arai ram III but the price is absurb now. so, i streamline to just evo helmet la. cos i need to set aside some money when i change my bike and that also means a new helmet! :D

i've bargained the price of the EVO helmet to a pair for $140. as for the inner pads of my AGV helmet, i don't bother to bargain yet cos the stock has yet to come. when it arrive, then can bargain all in! lol...

ehh.. but fullface is impt! I want to get a fullface the min i get my license, hot or not! i broke my jaw once you see, and i know how painful it can be... >.

haha.. bargain all in now lah! They might consider the two as separate purchases u know!

First of all...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAH

OK. Sorry. *ahem*

Now. Seriously. I don't understand why ppl would bother to plonk down cash .... say.... $300 on an Arai Ram.

Let's say, touchwood, you hit something and fly off your bike face first into the tarmac, or rear end of a vehicle.

Using a $30 L.A.B. open face helmet, your face will look like pepperoni pizza.

Using a $300 Arai Ram open face helmet, your face will STILL look like pepperoni pizza.

There is simply no protection. So why bother to spend that kind of money on an open face?

i can feel you for that

i've broken my jaw in 2 places & 8 teeth at the same time

coulnd't eat or talk properly for months

so even though i am on a 2b bike, i still use a full face flip up...

Grounded... :/
