that's one bada55 there..

running without engine oil!!!!

cams broken, head gone due to friction from rubbing valves, cylinder gone as piston ring wears out the coating..

Guys, remember to change your EO frequently!!

Check out the FAQ also for other problems with prolong usage of EO..

my yoshi full system is street legal with cert. tri oval carbon fibre. but think cant perform well due to e air restriction. currently using stock air filter n also dunno e previous owner hav done e 3X3 mod or not. any ways to find out???

open up your seat, you should see a 3inch by 3inch square hole if yours had a 3X3 done..

if not, you'll see a snorkel coming out from the top of the airbox..

3X3 is pretty simple to DIY..

ok...will go down to see whether it has been done on e 3X3 mod...if not how to DIY..?? thinking of trying to do e mod myself...and also may i know where is e dipstick to check for e engine oil..?? not quite sure where is it located at......sorry for all e stupid question. very new to DRZ.....:cheeky:

just checked my air box...its not 3X3 mod. how to DIY..?? might wanna try to do it myself.....

measure the 3inch by 3inch using ruler..

mark out using marker..

remove your air filter and cover the air inlet..

then have a penknife blade wrap one end with masking tape..

heat it up with a light for a while..

use the hot blade to cut the marked out 3X3 hole..

trim and file down the hole..

remove all the debris and place back your air filter..

the EO dipstick is under the triple clamps, very near to your handlebar lock..

DRZ's frame stores some of the EO when bike is not moving, DRZ is a dry sump bike..

Ouch! Sorry to hear that man! Personally I think the reason the ignition coil on my 8 month old bike burned out was perhaps due to a lack of EO or EO running too hot for a long period during a ride to Krabi.. Problem arose after that.. So now I carry a little bottle of EO around for any trips I go on and just check the dipstick and topup when needed.. Frequent checking and change of EO is diediemostdo for me now.. Especially with a thumper that consumes oil more quickly than other engine types if I am not wrong.. :)

a normal working engine should not "eat" EO..

if your engine is "eating" EO, means you have some problems with the sealing of your engine at the various locations: valves, water jacket, piston rings, oil filter, EO drain nut, etc..

but sometimes, it just cant be diagnosed..

to play safe, always check your EO and change your EO frequently..

The high compression that comes with a big pistoned single cylinder engine will consume oil.

It is normal for the DRZ to consume oil or for any single cylinder big bore engine.

Heaven help those believers of fully synthetic oil that can be used for 10,000 km. The high heat produced by the high compression single cylinders will slowly burn off the oil... regardless of whether its mineral, semi synthetic, fully synthetic or made of Martian oil, and if you believe in those oil additives being able to protect your engine... you might as well believe in magic stones too.

Lets deal with facts... not myths or fantasies or claims. I like to deal with hard facts supported by objective evidence... not just hearsay.

Frequent oil changes, even with the cheapest lowest quality mineral oil... is still the best protection you can give your DRZ engine.

Of course there is a relation. Too much play in the clutch cable will cause the symptoms you are having.

I will be at Abboy Motor Racing from noon onwards, drop by there and I will sort it out for you and teach you all you need to know and how to keep your DRZ in tip top condition. No worries coz there will be no charges..I will do it for free.

first hand? can check from BP. few mths ago i checked it was 12-13.5k depending on ur insurance. everything included cept IU.

2nd hand from direct sellers/forums, 09 models range from 9k to 11k depending on mods. price exclude insurance.

08 models range ard 8-10k?

05-07 models range ard 6k to 11k depending on the mods done up fer the bike.

2nd hand from shops are usually 1-2k more expensive.

this is wad i know. the lower price range is derived from the bike's age + lil or zero mods to the bike.

most bike are pretty well bling'd up so some may come at a higher price.

everything got its pros and cons.

buying from shops gives u assurance ( tho not all shops)

but price is a lil more steep.

yet however, if u dun have a lot of savings or downpayment or need to pay via installments its ur best fren.

the bike problems if visible ones, the shop will fix. small minor things. those bigger issues like timing chain, engine problems, things that we cant see. you wont know if its spoil or not.

buying from direct sellers is ... cheaper? provided u can find a loan for urself or u can full cash $$$

parts that are spoiled, yes no guarantee cos u pay the price u get wad u see.

But from my pov is that be it buy from shop or direct seller, if u know the bike well, u know what things are roughly spoil, u can re-neg for a better price with either the seller or the shop.

btw, buying from direct seller, actually there are many who have done this, they arrange for a meet-up. see if its to their liking. If yes, the buyer will arrange for another meet up at his preferred workshop and let his mechanic check thru roughly before making the decision to do the transfer.

abit of a hassle and may seem rude to the seller but its a form of insurance for the buyer as well
