Hi all,

I am new to this forum. I've been looking out for a RS250 for some time now and finally bought over fspider's ride.

I would love to meet up with you guys and have included my name in the Owners' List.

Hope to take the bike to the track this coming Saturday (morning) for its maiden spin. If any of you would like to join me, do give me a buzz at 96751984.

I don't have the Owner's Manual and was wondering if anyone can tell me what the stock setting for the forks and the rear shock should be?

Cheers

I'll be at the tracks this Saturday too. Probably reach there at 10am+ to setup the bike's suspension, take out mirrors, etc..etc.. and will gun for an 11am session.

Will be there with a buncha other riders.

Heh, shift work has downsides aplenty and I'll be glad when I'm finally rid of it.

Bored? Go organize a quick track session la.

chop chop curry pop.

U don't need to be organizing a track day event one/two months in advance right? PG is only 45km by 2nd link. Just find someone who knows the way.

U all know what always happens when you post out an Event 1/2 months away and ask for participation.

Everyone is IN at first... then slowly one by one, they start to pull out. When the actual day comes, you have a couple of guys left only and end up cancelling the whole thing. :faint:

My friend called me at Midnight last Thursday and said... Eh Friday wanna go track? I took all of 10 secs to think abt the program and said "OK". Next morning 4 bikes were on their way to PG for a blast.

U don't need to plan 3 months in advance and call it like a Grand Track Day Event. You just need to go. That's all.

You definitely have a point; I'll keep it in mind the next time I want to get everyone together. The problem is that some of us check the forum rather infrequently, so some lead time is unavoidable. This communication problem is, of course, easily bypassed by mass-SMSing the entire members' list, but I wonder if everyone would be comfortable with that.

u dun just have to consider having suits for track. ur bike must be in gd condition also.. trust me on tt one..

anyway anyone here interested in buying suits? mass order can be cheaper

Er... I went to PG without a suit. I had a suit which I sold off to my friend. I'm planning to get another suit in a couple of months, but for now I'm using TOURING gear to get on the track. :p

Just go there for fun and a spin, no crazy or extreme stuff.

I recall Lawrence mentioning that we only need a minimum of: a jacket with armour, long gloves, and any kind of boots. Pants don't matter, though I suppose they'd better be long pants. So no need suit. But you should have decent touring gear. Law, please correct me if I've got any facts mixed up.

My only problem is knee sliders. Rudy, do you know if you can buy strap-on knee sliders (not replacement knee sliders that fit on suits)? If they're available I'd like to get my hands on some. I don't imagine touring pants knee armour will withstand any serious knee dragging, even with several layers of duct tape.

Posted

actually the minimum requirement is fullface, leather jacket, gloves, jeans and covered shoes

but PLEASE DO NOT WEAR JEANS FOR TRACK!

jeans look tough, but they're not so tough. when i buanged at 70kph, the tarmac tore one big hole in the jeans and i suffered deep abrasion on my knees

Also, those mesh material "air flow" jackets which are really soft and thin may not be allowed. I've a friend who was told his jacket did not pass muster. Then again, if it is a really slow day (like a weekday) they might just close one eye.

I agree with fibre, try to avoid jeans. Thin gloves too. These will be ripped apart like paper if, touch wood, you do take a fall.

The cheapest 2 piece suits I believe are about $500 at Motorworld.

I started off wearing touring gear but eventually bought a leather suit just to be safe. Never regretted it one bit.

OK.

Just back from the tracks. More on it in a moment...

Basically my current track gear is...

Arai FF helmet

Full length race gloves

Army goretex boots

**Leather Jacket

**Touring pants with internal armor

**Dainese strap on kidney belt

Yup. I still have a leather jacket on, so I meet the minimum requirements. Jeans are not safe of course, 'cos you don't have much abrasion protection... or impact protection.

Of couse, if you want to wear jeans, please wear some rollerblade kneepads UNDER the jeans. It will save your joints. Pls pls pls follow up on this advice at least....

Today, one of my friends riding a 125Z highsided at T9, the chicane. He went up and over the bike. Flew like a bird before he landed in the sand and tumbled like a melon. Bad fall.

He wore touring gear. He got hurt a little. If he had been wearing full leathers, he would have been OK. If he had been wearing just jeans... he would have been in a world of hurt. So here's just a little real life experience I'm bringing to you guys. If you have the gear, use it... otherwise make do with what you have, but get extra paddings to supplement it.

:btw: U don't need to kneedrag to have fun. Just shift your bodyweight and posture, but keep your knees in. Besides... when on track, don't aim to go fast. By doing that, you'll end up risking yourself. Just aim to go SMOOTH, and everything else will fall into place.

very enlightening...
