Hi guys,

I'll be shopping for a pair of GPR70s at Ah Boy's, but will be carrying the tires in my friend's car back to Ideal to change them. Is there anyone out there who wants to get GPR70s too?

We can get them cheaper if we buy in bulk, and we dont have to put up with Ah Boy's grease monkeys banging our precious babies and his bullshit con of tires being out of stock.

 

Also,

I'll be getting some other gear like a new Arai, touring jacket for daily use, and a track suit. Will be doing my shopping this Thurs and Fri at Chiap Lee and JR. Been getting a lot of nuisance calls recently and even had stalker outside my home banging on my door and shrieking my name that I had to call the police, so I'm screening my calls. Interested parties pls SMS me and I will call you back. Thanks.

 

Those interested to get 2T, 4T, gear oil, coolant, etc, do SMS me before coming over to pick them up.

I got a pair of Bridgestone Battlax 090s over the weekend. $200 from AhBoy. Didn't ask about the GPR70s. 120/60 front and 150/60 rear. Stock is 110/70 front right? Did a measurement and 120/60 has a 1.7% smaller rolling circumference. So my speedo should under-read. Guess it's more margin against speed cams and TPs. Anyone else running 120/60?

 

I also got Castrol chain lube, Castrol 4T, Mobil Racing 2T, DID Gold X-Ring chain, NGK racing sparks and degreaser. Do I need gearoil and coolant? How to check 4T and Gear oil levels?

On the subject of shopping: It's perfectly reasonable to buy riding gear from physical stores in Singapore rather than order from overseas, especially for those who don't have credit cards. Be aware though that Internet prices are almost always much lower than local prices, so you should at least be aware of them so that you can bargain appropriately. It's ok to pay a little extra for the convenience of being able to try sizes, etc, but if the vendor asks for too much, she/he deserves to have you try on gear at the store for sizing, then buying online.

 

Lawrence, you'd better check out Dainese prices online before your spree.

 

Anyone wondering about riding gear (gloves, boots, jackets, suits) both locally and overseas can PM me cuz I've become something of a price research freak.

Do you have another bike that's 4-stroke? Our 2-stroke bikes don't use 4T, only 2T and gear oil.

 

I got degreaser from Ah Boy too - careful only to use it on metal areas and not on plastic bits. Castrol chain lube's very good, in my experience; not messy.

 

Check the manual on how to check the gear oil level.

Strange that I can't find any info from Dunlop's website (tried dunlopmotorcycle.com) on the GPR70 tyres. Only found the D208 and D220 models.

 

Are these still Dunlop's current high performance/race models?

I know, I did the same search 2 months ago. The 208GPs seem to be especially hard core, and I wonder how they'd compare against GPR70s. As a matter of fact, I haven't been able to find official info on GPR70s anywhere, and bought them on the strength of reviews here, as well as favourable reports of their race use on both super motards and sport bikes.

 

GPR70s also weren't included in a tyre feature in a recent issue of Ride magazine.

 

I've read online somewhere that GPR70s are supposedly only meant for bikes up to 400cc (a weight/wear issue, I'd assume), but I can't confirm the accuracy of this info. If true though, that would explain it's exclusion in catalogues and magazine articles due to its small niche and high wear rate.

 

I'd welcome any solid info on these tyres that is more than hearsay/rumour/legend.

Problem was I started the session a little late (maybe 5 to 10 mins) so once going I just kept going for the entire session and it died right before the end after about 45-50mins of riding. I think I should have done 10 laps, taken a short break and then started again rather than just going at it for the entire session. =( live and learn I guess

not many motor shops have their products,if you're from the east,can get it from First Motor(Ubi),Moto World(Kaki Bukit) or Ah Yong(Bedok NOrth Ave 2)...maybe you can try other shops too.....

Why would it be better to use gear oil than engine oil even though the 2 are of similar viscosity and engine oil holds up better under extreme high heat conditions?

HMmmmmm.....maybe thats why I always have problems finding neutral all the time!

 

Engine oil provides lubrication for the piston n cylinder in addition to lubricating the gearbox n providing the fluid for the clutch to work. In 2 stroke bikes 2t oil is used for the piston n cylinder lubrication only and the gear oil does the rest. So gear oil is for 2 strokes and engine oil is for 4 stroke and i say keep it that way
