~ K&T (Clifford) ... transmission set, eo/filter, air filter, fork oil, etc

basically, we can go anywhere if its only for eo and oil filter (same as S4) :p

but for things like belt, rollers, etc. that're specific to scooters, better go somewhere where the mech is familiar with the SW

welcome to the group... tour with us this coming Fri? :cheeky:

can define wats included in transmission set? i feel my bike pick up not strong enough but over taking is a breeze... should i go down to K&T for tune my bike? how much is dat?

cheers! :cheeky:

the CVT transmission assembly comprised of many parts. the set referred to is belt, rollers and sliders, commonly as a 3-in-1 package costing between $220~$280). see our technical thread at

Silverwing 400cc / 600cc Tech Corner (http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/images/misc/multipage.gif 1 2)

under stock settings, the SW will not take off like the manual-gear bikes (e.g. S4) nor the much lighter piags/yammies scoots coz its a very heavy beast... see dry weighs of the common/popular 2A scoots below

~ honda silverwing 400 228kg

~ piaggio MP3 204kg

~ piaggio X8 400 198kg

~ yamaha majesty YP400 197kg

~ piaggio X9 197kg

~ suzuki burgman AN400 179kg

~ honda CB400 S4 170kg

adding in the SW's 16L tank, the diff becomes even bigger :p

main purpose of synchronising the air-screws is for engine efficiency (smoother idle & probably better FC), and not to improve the pickup (or torque). some bikers purposely leave it staggered (slightly out) for a more torqey feel.

a common method of improving low-end (pickup) is to use lighter rollers, but at the expense of top-end performance. reason is because lighter rollers need higher rpms (to generate the required centrifugal force) to "roll" outwards thus maintaining the "lower gears" longer (something like dragging 1st/2nd gear) compare to heavier ones.

hypothetical illustration: SW A uses stock rollers, B uses lighter rollers.

at take off, B shoots way ahead (assume both throttles with similar aggressiveness). but on the highway, A gets 160kph at 8+k rpm but B gets only 140kph at same rpm. something like that lah

mine had a strong 'engine braking effect'... guess its not tune to the best yet.. usually how much they charge for tuning? is there any local delicated SW forum?

Hi Bro,

There's no local dedicated forum. This is the most active thread on SW you can find in Singapore-context.

K&T charge about 40 for the synch job but that's unlikely to change the strong "engine braking effect".

in fact, i also asked about this symtom when i first got my SW, switching from a manual geared to a CVT scooter. then i found out that we should be glad that its still there coz it weakens over time, as the contra springs weakens and then its due for change.

when? dunno but logically depends on how you loooot your bike

because you're running on a Dual Cylinder DOHC. Dual Cylinders are more meant for mid high range. even a burgman 400 Single Cylinder SOHC can pick up faster than u. but at abt 80km/hr, you'll overtake him.

the EURO is confirm faster in terms of pick up & top speed.

the JDM is the older model. its slower than the EURO model.
