How come the Silverwing 400cc/600cc Tech/Info Corner is no longer sticky thread?

Admin revamped the threads.

Sticky for Scooterist... not just for Silverwing, so they took it out.

They've inserted the link in the Scooter Info Hub instead.

oo becoz that day he say batt going to die.. but coil still charging.. so today when to change batt.. but volmeter still show 12.-12.2.. so he check everything and found out magnatic coil not working.. so he ask him to change the coil...

btw what is the 2 exhaust gaskets??

ohh so it is a reasonable price la,, k k great to hear that :)

If you have already changed the coil, can you take a picture of it and measure the resistance across the 2 yellow wires?

If you have not changed, there are certain diagnostics steps to check where is the problem. Will write up on them later.

guys, if you wanna know how much a magnetic coil cost, just give FJT a call and you'll know how much the workshops markup their price. btw, coil for FJS is cheaper than that for SWT; i was quoted about $275 last year for a FJS coil.

cost of replacing magnetic coil involves:

+ magnetic coil, it's normal practice for workshops to charge cost plus their markup (or you buy yourself direct from parts supplier)

+ engine oil, this depends on whether mech recycle the existing engine oil or use new oil (depends on what oil too)

+ labor (about $50~$60)

from the kakis' past experiences, prices range from $330 (recycle existing eo) to near $400.

hi guy.. i was quote 380 to change magnetic coil.. becoz mech can my coil burn too...

haiz.. magnetic coil izzit so ex?? just wanna check the price with u guy... :)

if use new good full-syn eo, $380 sounds rather resonable.

working backwards: labor $50 + 2 bottles of eo $42 (assume $21/bott) + mangetic coil (balance of $288)

What makes him come to that conclusion? If $380 is new coil (not recon) and include EO and labour, it's reasonable. Need to remove exhaust header, make sure you also change the 2 exhaust gaskets.

this one optional ba... we change if it's damaged.

most of us change coil without changing the exhaust gaskets :p

Just changed my front rotor.Surprisingly the original rotor is still in very good condition..I measured the rotor thickness 5.15mm whereby the minimum thickness stated on the rotor is 4mm...I believe the rotor can last at least 100 000km if you change your brake pads before the backing plate touches the rotor.

The new rotor I measured the rotor thickness 5.05mm whereby the minimum thickness stated is 4.5mm....

Well. Silverwing too small a group to have it's own sticky (even though other scooters don't bother to create their own).

信不信由你 :p We're talking about the exhaust header gaskets, not the muffler gasket. Anyway, it's only $2.50 per gasket. Change rather than let them make a mess of the engine underside.

So far, everything about SW is made to last long. I've measured the rollers, variator inner diameter, boss outer diameter, clutch pad, clutch bell and belt, all within tolerance after 29kkm. Those parts inside the right crankcase cover look new, despite using "car oil" all along. But dunno why some folks have magnetic coil issue - could be not changing EO frequent enough?

BTW my SW 66400km that is why I quite surprise by the tear and wear as I expect the rotor should be almost end of its life....Still got 1mm left of meat...I guess new one should be 5.5mm or 6mm....

Bitubo front springs and rear shocks are exactly same length as original at 33cm and 43cm respectively. Front springs are harder than Hyperpro. No Hagon to compare but rear does not feel as hard as front. Maybe need to dial up more preload and rebound. Rear feels comfortable while front tracks firmly. Now I know how it should feel like :)

Got an ideal. Can we get HelmetBox to edit the first post of this cafe so that it links to the tech thread, and you maintain the list of tech articles on the 2nd post?

Cigarette port has got many uses. Not all automotive gadgets use USB for its power supply.

Anyone clean/service ur crankcase breather b4? I think is the Drain tube that is located just in front of ur main stand.

Possible to replace the choke with a small open filter? Which allows a better ventilation for the engine.
