Hi all, first post!

Got myself a used silverwing 400, and have been riding it for about 6 months.

Saying hi to everyone here :p So thankful for the tech corner too! Enjoy travelling, looking to explore a little light touring on my bike!

As for handling of the silverwing, pretty comfortable with it now. Furthest I've taken my scooter is only to Desaru. Feel I'm confident enough to join other riders for even further trips!

Then you must go down to railway mall today and buy chairman ko pi..haha

Final drive bearing inside the oil compartment not easy to spoil.

Normally it is the worn out shaft (number 3, bottom of picture) and the spoiled roller bearing inside the clutch housing (number 19 and 20, middle of picture).

See pic provided by Chairman.

Exceptional rubbing/scrapping noise when rotating the clutch housing by hand. Must open up transmission to test.

Gents, What are the symptoms for final drive bearing worn?

How many bearing are in there?

add on to david's reply...

put bike on main stand and let it run at idle (better if bike is already warmed up and rear drive is lubricated instead of "morning dry").

... listen to the noises coming from rear axle (clutch area)

... if bearings or shaft gears are worn, you'll hear some "garak garak" sound; be sure to differentiate between the sounds from belt/clutch from this unique sound

... turn the wheel in reverse direction and observe if "garak garak" sound becomes worse. if yes, very likely something inside is loose and we'ld recommend that you send bike for servicing.

cost of repair depends on what is changed inside... some of us spent around $500+, see our post at

Normal Gear Oil For Final Transmission? Not Recommended!

I thought transmission oil is gear oil. X10 have 3.

Engine oil, transmission oil and hub oil to replace every 20k.

Don't think have hub oil...

SW manual recommends 10w40 motor oil (engine oil) for engine bay and also final transmission.

if not wrong, it uses only 5 types of juices at 6 areas:

(1) engine bay ... 10w40 4-stroke motor oil, 2l or 2.2l (change oil filter)

(2) final transmission ... 10w40 motor oil, 0.32l (there's an overflow value)

(3) front fork ... SS-8 suspension fluids, 302 +/- 2.5cm3

(4) brake system ... DOT 4 brake fluid

(5) liquid cooling system ... 2.2l in engine/radiator, 0.8l in reservoir, anti-freeze/anti-corrosion coolants

last but not least...

(6) fuel ... min octane rating 91 (lowest in SG is RON 92) petrol or gasoline

did i miss out any?

K&T will change engine and transmission. Worry those ah beng motor shop will just change engine oil of my X10 and ignore the rest, leaving my X10 to rot ... hahaha ....
