sharing a post in another thread :)

Today newspaper also states that bike shops are desperately trying to sell off their Euro I bikes before the dateline (in Oct?). How is this going to affect the COE?

Quote for last year's source:

http://yourhealth.asiaone.com/content/singapore-rolls-out-plan-make-roads-less-polluted

IMO, this could be a major reason why COE prices are shooting up in recent months.

Dealers are frantically trying to secure COEs so that they could sell their existing stock of Euro I machines. Once the Euro III emission standard kicks in (scheduled in Oct 2014), all their Euro I leftover stocks can't be sold/registered in Singapore market any more. Although the dealers may still export those bikes to alternative markets, they'ld probably sustain substantial loss as compared to selling those machines here.

http://ride.asiaone.com/news/general/story/delay-sought-stricter-m-cycle-emission-standards

... the Singapore Motorcycle Trade Association sent a letter to the National Environment Agency (NEA) to request either a six-month grace period or for new standards to take effect only in June next year. - See more at: http://ride.asiaone.com/news/general/story/delay-sought-stricter-m-cycle-emission-standards#sthash.OojVUysT.dpuf

Just guessing... I think the motorcycle market may become quite chaotic when it comes to the penultimate month before Euro I bikes can't be registered anymore.

Will the dealers start slashing machine price to minimise loss? Possible, but don't expect angpow type discounts.

Will they subsidise buyers for the COEs to help clear the "poison" stock? Possible, but don't expect few Ks subsidies as their loss for lapsing a Cat D COE is only $200.

My best guess would be the dealers may roll out "clearance" promotions using package deals... but deals shall unlikely be near the recoverable costs (exporting and TCOE loss).

Cat D (motorcycle & scooters) TCOE has to be registered within 6 months, after which it will lapse and bid deposit of $200 will be forfeited.

  • COEs bid in Categories A, B and D are valid for 6 months, while COEs in Categories C and E are valid for 3 months ("Temporary COE"). If the Temporary COE (TCOE) successfully bid for the registration of vehicle is not utilised by its expiry date, the TCOE will lapse and its full bid deposit [ie. $200 for Category D and $10,000 (or $5,000 for bid applications during the COE bidding exercises conducted from October 2009 to September 2010) for Categories A, B, C and E] forfeited.

Just guessing

A. Pump only when tire is cold, ie only travelled a short distance.

B. Not all petrol station pump are accurate. Bring along a tire pressure gauge.

That is probably the sound from the worn clutch assembly bearing. Damage will be approximately $50 from ac motor. will advice you to get it done asap to prevent damage to ur final drive shaft.

Sometimes... the worn bearing will also damage the driven shaft. Hmm, that will cost $250 above, provided there are parts available.

My route to office have lots of traffic light ... I can only hit 19 to 21. If highway, 25 achievable ...

what speed u riding at highway to achieve 25? anything I can do to improve FC other than riding slow? I tried riding 80km/h at highway only managed 22.5km/l

Posted

Cant remember ... you can play around when you are in highway. I guess around 90 to 100 km/h.

SW9000 have a record of that, but now hiding that away .. haha ...

To Give away: SHAD 33 Box with base bracket.

other than the bike, FC depends a lot on the rider's pattern, especially when moving off or accelerating/overtaking.

if you regularly "burst out from the gates like race stallions", FC is likely to suffer even if you ride slowly when hitting the highway.

my 2006 manufactured FJS is still giving me around 24km/l partly due to my gentle riding, apart from the main fact that i travel mostly on highways to-n-fro work... imagine linking Jurong West-PIE-KPE-ECP-Marine Parade, then Marine Parade-ECP-MCE-WCH-PIE-Jurong West.

some things you may consider to improve FC...

* tame the wrist stallion

* clean the fuel injector using cleaning agents such as FP60, STP FI Cleaner, etc.

* synchronise the air screw

* make sure transmission (both drive and driven/clutch) are in good conditions

* make sure tyres are properly inflated (under-inflated tyres are bad for fuel efficiency)

* don't use too heavy motor oils, Honda recommended 10w40

another debatable item is to use an after-market voltage stabiliser, e.g. pivot, power abuser, etc.

many of us are using (including meself) but whether it works is for you to find out :p

cheers

How long then you synchronise the air screw?

Where to get the cleaning agent? how much?

How much does after-market voltage stabiliser cause?

Bike EO for bikes. Try not to use anything else. Even 50W is a no no because of higher drag.

Anyway, I synchro my bike when I change plugs or before a trip.

Using K & N air filter. Less effort at higher speed.

Using Mutol 7100 for EO and Maxima Extra 10W40 for transmission. This one.. my preference.

Riding... slow move off... 90 to 100km/h usually. Unless on tour then will chase after the big bikes.

25km/l all the time in SG.
