Hi bros, where can go to see the Silver Wing in the flesh? I want to bring my wife go see, to get her "blessings".

I tried going Boon Siew at Kah Motor. No Silver Wing on display. I called Unique Motorsport. Also nothing on display or in stock.

Appreciate the help!

Didn't get a very good review of the Burgman 400 though.

If wanna get burgy, the 650 would be better if you have CL 2.

Actually, apart from the fact that the SW has a stronger community presence (here on these boards) and therefore more intel to draw from when needed, I'd say I've heard more good things about the Burgman 400 than I have the SW. Especially when reading US-based websites and reviews which pit the 2 bikes against each other.

Better FC, larger storage (63L vs 55L), better acceleration (because it's lighter), has a charger socket OOTB.

teh or kopi, each has their supporters ... same applies to Burgman 400 and Silver Wing 400.

the Burger4 is indeed lighter than SW4, thus probably better pickup.

as far as FC is concern, they're rather comparable, but Burger4 has shorter max range.

my 2006 manufactured FJS clocks about near 25km/l for local riding and 21+km/l along NSHW (based on recent tour 29-31 Aug 2014). at 25km/l with a 16l tank capacity, max range is approx 400km; i ever rode till about 408km on odometer, then bike stalled.

this is what our SW Maestro clocks in Singapore; his SWT400's FC along NSHW is also 21+km/l (at higher speeds than mine).

Wooot. 353km for 13.5L. 26km/l.

Of course ride slowly below 100kmh....

according to specs, 2012/2013 Burgman 400 ABS rated FC is 56 MPG (that's approx 23.8 km/l).

http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/motorcycles/2012models/2012-Suzuki-Burgman400ABS.htm

at 23.8km/l with a 13.5l tank capacity, therotical max range is approx 321.3km

... that's quite a bit shorter than SW's 400km.

12V cigarette socket for charging gadgets, that's not an issue for SW... FJS/JDM stock models come with it, SWT/GT needs just a simple installation.

some SWingers install inside the lockable left glove compartment, some inside the underseat storage.

braking system and ABS, here's where i think the Burgman 400 betters the SW.

the standard SW comes with CBS and without ABS (add-on for $1k+ when ordering bike, can't do after-market).

recent models of Burgman 400 (US websites) seems to have ABS and dual front disc brake as standard items, not sure about Singapore market though. lighter body + dual front disc brakes + ABS, seems to be able to give shorter stopping distance when compared to the heavier SW with CBS and single front brake disc.

as for aftersales support/warranty and self-help/local community support, i think SW is way ahead of the Burger.

if considering SW, suggest you check this out. it should tell you whether the SW is a donkey or horse, many self-help & tips are also there.

Silverwing 400cc / 600cc Tech Corner

i would strongly suggest you check both scoots out before deciding which suits you better.

for SW, come down to our weekly gathering and you could get to see, feel, and hear the engines out.

imo, SW's parallel twin engine is like music to ears when compared to the other single cylinder class 2A scooters.

Burgman 400's engine has single cylinder, 650cc model has dual cylinder.

for Burgman 400, can try checking out the used bike sales if you can't find at motortiams or showroom (is there one?).

dealer for Honda bikes is Boon Siew, well equipped to support their Honda bikes, although quality of service is sometimes questionable. at least BS has a proper service centre and parts centre (although prices of Honda parts dealers like FJT & Ever Success are usually more competitive).

dealer for Suzuki is Guan Hoe, errrr ... try googling for this company and you'll know what i mean.

note that Guan Hoe is NOT Guan Hoe Cheong, they are 2 different companies.

Should be at this address. Try giving them a call to confirm...

Thanks, scoobydoo. Very thorough as usual. You represent 1 of 2 reasons why the SW is still in the fight (for me) - the fact that knowledgeable experts are so active on these boards. Access to this ready knowledge base carries its weight in gold.

The other reason... is that the SW looks better than the Burgman 400. And my wife seems to think so too. Her liking the bike I choose, is important.

I've already pored over that excellent tech corner compilation. Uber impressive. That's what made the impression of the livelier community (and thus, support base).

Thanks also for pointing out the max range point. It's a big point to me, because I pump in JB whenever possible. A larger range per tank means lower overhead spent travelling up and down.

A point, though. I think you might have understated the FC of the Burgman. I've been trawling the old posts of the Burgman thread; there are reports of 26-32. Never below 26.

Scoobydoo, have you ever owned a Burgman 400 before?

wife's liking is VERY VERY IMPORTANT ... she rides happy, you'll also ride them happy images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSEBsN60CjWYu9TB-k7wQXcdGNGe8dCqnVugBueS3NoTnnNCOI5eA

i haven't owned a burgman before so don't have first hand info to share, including FC.

FC info is taken from specs listed on website, maybe the manufacturers are more prudent in listing FC, in case kenna from consumers.

based on Burgman thread, max range of Burgman is better:

. Burgman 400 (avg 29km/l) = 29km/l x 13.5l = approx 392km

. SW 400 (avg 24km/l) = 24km/l x 16l = approx 384km

So yeah, if we assume max range to be same, then the Burgman wins in the fuel category due to lower FC.

It also wins in the storage category. An extra 7L underseat.

The only thing left still going for the SW, is:

1) Better looks.

2) Ready knowledge and support base.

Objective analysis. No bias whatsoever. I'm upgrading from a Pulsar 180; I'm open to either bikes.

Objectively, it comes down to those 2 points. Can anyone think of any more points I might have missed?

another thing to consider is weight and length.

i know of bikers who would love to own/ride the SW, but didn't becos they feel that SW is:

* too heavy for comfort

* too long, which makes it difficult to park at tight HDB parking lots

DO NOT park at 100AM (formerly known as Amara Shopping Centre) or Amara Hotel (sharing same car park)!!!

stupid me, parked there for 1/2 day yesterday thinking that it's still free... paid $21 yesterday to find out otherwise.

as if paying same rates as cars isn't bad enough, bikes gotta be parked in a dirty and badly ventilated section located at level B3.

TMD... like John said, if we pay car rates, we should be entitled to park at same lots that cars use!

I do hear of the SW's weight being a problem.

Just how big is this weight disparity? Say, compare an SW to the average class 2 touring bike. Does the SW even outweigh those class 2 average boys?

The length is about same as Burgman 400, right? So it punishes each of them the same. No point looking at this since both also same.

Posted

My personal opinion... The burgman 400 handles better than the sw cos I feel the weight is better distributed. Every time I need to make a high speed corner on the sw... My heart skip a few beats... But the burgman doesn't give me this kinda shock... Usually I'm a slow rider though...
