hello people, can anyone tell me more about the maintainence costs and newbie-friendliness of this 2 classes of bike? Would either one be easier to break down, given that both are give the same TLC (tender loving care) from the owner? To be more specifice, SP vs WR200 or something.. Cant seem to decide!

maintainence costs

Subjective? Depending on the initial condition of the bike, afterall both models should have had plenty of owners.

newbie-friendliness

I would go for neither. Road/Street/Naked bike would be more newbie-friendly.

Both are completely different machines. What do you really want?

hmmm but given that both bikes have been maintained well, does either bike require more attention? Searched around in SBF and some said that the WR is really hardy and the repair costs are also low in the event of bike drops.

Road/Street bikes like pulsar and phantom is it? hmmm IMHO, it's not really to my liking, i dont know why. But i like super4 though hahaha..

hmmm, i would prefer a bike which is relatively fast and reliable, and doesnt cost a bomb to keep it running. Have to look good too hehe.. Just something that doesnt have to be sent to workshops all the time, and i guess i wouldnt mind having to top up 2T every now and then.

scramblers more fun, a breeze to ride at low speed and easier to squeeze imo but on knobbies tires, no more tight cornering, no more going fast on highway unless equipped with steel balls. maintenance, parts would be slightly more expensive.

dont know about other sp, but my old sp was a nice experience. engine never failed me even after a head on with a signboard, still can ride to shop. also have a abundant of spare and used parts for sp, krrs.

2t usually wont kana the rider, but the pillion. whack the bike, can see some black dots on your bag haha

subjective to compare between wr & sp, both are totally different kind of ridding style kind of bikes.

guess u r new here, advice u to look into their respective sp & wr thread and ask them, sure some nice dudes might list out the possible prons and cons.

cannot just simply just ask the differences between 2 bikes, unless they are of same ridding style.

Given that situation (although rather unlikely, so many owners and mostly first time owners that whack their bikes), I'll say the WR, on average it had spent more time on the road compared to the SP. No matter how well-maintained, wear and tear is unavoidable.

This is comparison of apples & oranges so still you really gotta know what you want. At least you know what you don't want.

IMO, you either get fast or you get reliable. Seldom you can get the best of both worlds. Looks once again is subjective. For mostly street-use, go for SP. For dirt-use, go for WR.

thanks to all who have replied so far.. supermotards are cool! but i'm convinced that there arent any for cl2b, right?

hmmm from what i've read:

Scrambler (WR200): Pros Cons

1) Fast Pickup 1) Lower top speed

2) Hardy (can handle rough owner) 2) Generally older than SP

3) Up and down curbs easily 3) Less pillion-able

4) Higher and upright posture 4) Not-so-good handling with knobbies (?)

5) Can put box 5) 2T sputtering (does this happen to SP too?)

6) Fierce looking

Sports Bike (SP): Pros Cons

1) Higher top speed 1) Slower Pickup

2) Parts widely available 2) More fragile

3) Crouching posture 3) Crouching Posture

4) Better cornering 4) Cannot put box (damn ugly!)

5) Cool and sleek look

anyone got more to add on? hehe what about the fuel consumption? my impression is that WR200 drinks petrol faster than SP..

but you don't seemed convinced this is an apple & orange comparison.

sportbikes: SP, KRR, RS, Mito

scrambler: WR, XR, XL, KTM

I think I listed down all the common ones.

hahah if the aprilia motard has any 2nd hand i'd go for it, but 1st hands are too ex!

fleaz, please dont misunderstand me, i do know they are completely different classes. but i'm really interested in both too, so i would like to know how riders of both machines have to say about them.. it'd really help me to decide, in fact, i'm leaning more to SP's side..

sorry if the new bird here caused any trouble! :(

As what Fleaz has said. It's apples and oranges. Totally no basis for comparison. It depends largely on what you want to do with the bike.

A dirt bike opens up a whole new world of off-road possibilities. There are trail rides most weekends, mostly in Malaysia. You will be amazed at what a 2B dirt bike can do, even the humble DR200 and XR200.

Possibilities are less on sports bikes, unless you wish to try Pasir Gudang. Other than that, sports bikes are generally more uncomfortable to ride, and don't crash as well (more plastic to damage).

But if you want a bike for orchard gudang posing, then only the meanest and latest Aprilla or KTM will do. For simple commuting, nothing beats a Wave.

Good luck.
