Entry Into Thailand(by road)

Documentation u need for u & ur vehicle:

- completed arrival card & valid passport with at least 6months before expiry.

- copy of vehicle registration card to prove country of origin from onwer for permit. Permit must be endorsed before riding into Thailand.

keep the carbon copy, return it back before u leave, else there will be a compound fine for ur next visit with the same vehicle.

If u r not the vehicle owner u will need to provide all these;

1. copy of vehicle registration card.

2. a letter of authorisation clearly stated;

-- owner's infomation & vehicle detail as per copy registration card.

-- the length of stay & purpose is to be use in Thailand during ur stay.

-- signatory from owner.

** a fee of rm1-2 or 20Baht will required to pay to the custom officer for endorsing ur passport(must pay for both in & out).

** no fee for endorsing vehicle permit.

Holders of a Singapore passport which is valid for at least another 6 months should get a 30-day tourist visa.

You should have your bike with you as they may want to inspect it.

Bike Insurance

For travel in Thailand, you need at least the Compulsory Motor Insurance.

Sorry some questions:

Do we need to get visa? from the airline website it stated we are exempted from applying visa unless more than 30 days.

Inspection of bike for?

Read from somewhere that the compulsory motor insurance is not required.

As long as we have a insurance coverage plan (SG) will do, right?

Do they need to keep a copy of our documents? (log card, passport, license etc?

Need any IC size photos too?

Wish to add in, something I learn from my first and only trip:

Bring Orginal and photocopy of your log card of your bike. They will want to 'see' that document. Dont ask me why... I just monkey see monkey do.

Also put RM$2 inside both passport and bike visa(bike is consider 1 person, human is consider another person), all this only at the Thai custom.

Please correct me if I am wrong, this is all I can remeber.

dogs....

I hope they don't do stringent check on original log card, cos I don't have!

You just need certified true copy of your log card. *Tip* they don't know the difference if you just buy the 'chop' from a stationary shop and sign it yourself.

Remember to surrender your papers and declare your bike as left the country when you do, otherwise, big problem when you want to go in again.

ok2eon,

it's like a consent form, there is no standard format for it. put into simple english for easy reading & understand to avoid mis-communications & disappoitments.

i discourauge riding to Thai with "owner authorization letter", it may cause unpleasant event especially in group touring.

Just to add

as you need to return the Simplified Customs Declaration Form when leaving Thailand and you happen to misplace the document, make a police report in Sadao (with your log card) before heading your to the custom. wouldnt want to make a u-turn back to Sadao. (ard 10 km away)

Just present this report and paid a fine (amount not so sure, me bluff my way out)

Also try to see if they have keyed in the report into their system.

Else next time may have problems going into Thailand.

next need to sign in a book citing the report number, new Simplified Customs Declaration Form number or something, content not so sure liao.

Btw when handing your passport ( leaving Thailand), need to put Rm2 inside too

You won't get into trouble by putting this down but will save a lot of hassle for other riders wanting to go in and out Thailand. Tipping is a norm in Thailand and it is certainly not seen as a bribe. It's just a gesture to show that we appreciate their service.

Trust me that your journey will be a lot more smoother..

hi Counter-Terrorist,

pardon me for replying late.

as i wrote earlier, there aint any standard written formats for 'owner consent letter'. i've seen some examples, most of it wrote in simple or with broken english, but these samples r completed with either company's header(company owned) or an attachment of owner's particular(ic or etc..).

i'll find out more details next visit.

hope it helps...

i think there a misunderstanding about the coffee money..

the Rm$2 u pay is official it is stated on the board in the center of the customs.

the price of leaving the customs is 25 baht which works out to abt Rm$2.

RM2 for ppl who enter thai using their own leg.

RM1 for those enter thai with wheels.

What logic is this?

Shouldn't it be the other way round?

Why are people who ride motorcycles called bikers and people who ride bikes called cyclists?
