Trail-bike rider found dead

May 15, 2009 07:09am

A MAN has been found dead in bushland after failing to return from a trail-bike ride in southeast Queensland.

Concerned family members advised police the Gympie man was missing yesterday morning after failing to return from the ride on Wednesday.

A search of the Tamaree State Forest at Curra outside Gympie was launched and the 48-year-old's body was located with his motorcycle before midday yesterday.

Police said initial investigations suggest the man lost control of his trail-bike and hit a tree.

He died at the scene.

He was wearing full protective equipment.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Wearing protective gear definately help u to minimize injuries in the even of fall. but it does not protect u when u fall in the wrong way like head landed on ground 1st or something.

wearing full protective equipment helps to protect but;

1) how the accident happens? states here was hit a tree but impact point

2) wat speed was e rider going?

3) rider went missing so he could be alive when accident happens but maybe cause of death is due to help was delayed?

4) manufacturer never guarantees 100% that you'll be alive when accident occurs even wearing full protective

EQ is meant to reduced injury level to the minimum but not 100% no injuries.

what puzzled me this case is Trial Bike supposed to go very slow as they negotiate obstacles like rocks, hill climb and they use light bikes. Even, if he hit the tree he still has his helmet on.

It could be a freak accident. Only he himself knows what happen. Maybe hit tree then his heart stop beating?

with protective gear, at least ya die with a complete body.. save the hassle of the undertakers to pick up bits and pieces of ya body parts and also less troublesome for the makeup artist.

SKYTREK,

First of all, your first post said TRAIL bike, which can be a supercross, motocross or in this case an enduro machine.

Those things are really fast and when you throw in an off road environment with all those obstacles, the result can get messy. Try some trail riding and you will know what I mean.

In your later reply, you said that TRIALs bikes are supposed to be slow. So you made 2 mistakes:

1. You confused the word TRIAL & TRAIL, which in bike terms make a big difference.

2. You fail to realise that you can kill yourself slamming into a wall (which is similar to a tree) at 60kmph with full protective gear. Downhill cyclists can easily reach those speeds, let alone a TRIALS bike.

Have you seen the jumps and hill climbs TRIALS bikes take on in competition? Its psycho.

Hye Skytrek...

Protective Gear is important and a Condition made for riders & racers..

YES...there still racers died in racing tracks. But logically if u compare the accident rate @ tracks & normall roads, its totally different story rite??

This was because, all riders who ride @ tracks wear their Protective Gear..the word is 'PROTECTIVE.' thes gear actually protects u or minimise u frm getting severe injuries like cuts, bruises some even protect ur vital parts of ur body like ur spinal cord,head,ankles..

They have all types of protective gear, frm head to toe. They even have ball guard dude!!

tats y its important to wear them..unlike u ride at normall road,u cant wear all of them right? hehehee..people will call u mad...!!

cheerss..

U can wear all of those equipment on road if u want to..

The thing is, I think Singapore weather hinders most riders from gearing up..

Safety gear will not help you in the mother of all accidents - on-road, off-road or track.

But it will speed up the healing process a lot faster if you survive the less nasty stuff. Leather or durable fabric is MUCH cheaper than a skin graft, and a lot less painful, too. :)
