regulars of kallang cycle, does mike charges labour fee like minerva?

Just talk to Michael...normally his charge is definately cheaper than Minerva. It's your choice.

haha, i haved asked him.. he do not have this encounter, thats y i am puzzled

You have not ask him and you know he do not has the same encounter? :giddy: Oh, you mean you had asked him :cheeky: Made me blur...

What I meant is, buy him coffee, ask him try out to see if this is normal or not. Or you could try Neo and flowers too. Sometimes after physically trying, it could be normal.

hahaha.. you mean they way they charge by the "book". ($50/hr)

hmm cos sometimes he mentioned 200+++ then he will round up to a round figure.. im getting around 10-15% extra for labour...is it norm at kallang cycle?

Well, Michael is an old guy...you have to ask him total charges at times, meaning "Micheal, plus labour how much?"

I have no problem because I always ask him beforehand. Even if he "rounds" up, it's still cheaper than Ducati Dealership of Singapore. But what you can do is to call Ducati Dealership of Singapore, talk to their Workshop Manager, get a quote first and then compare with Micheal's price. You will see the difference, but that said, the job quality is also different. Certain things if the extra I pay at Ducati Dealership of Singapore is only $50 more, I rather go there and do.

I have both good and bad experiences at Michael's....Ducati Dealership of Singapore so far nothing bad, except you cannot do adhoc jobs (happy go down and expect to get it done for you), and the labour charges for certain jobs is really high. But their labour charge is really nothing, compare overseas....

Maybe you could post the problem here? Some might just had the same issues and could advise! Make use of this forum, and let us have a shot at it, won't ya?

Firstly, bike was not holding charge very well..minerva said its the coil, not the rectifier.

Soon after, the crank was getting weaker.. and there were incident whereby i tried to crank but was too weak to start and although i off the ignition, the bike was still trying to crank on its own.

Mike had checked and its the starter solenid (pardon my spelling). Had since changed a new one and problem solved. regarding the weak holding charge, he checked out the coil and said its just the rectifier problem and not the coil. Had since changed a new rectifier as well.

Hi guys,

I had a problem on my '98 916 just now.

Dunno whether problem solved or not.

Afternoon went for a short ride on my 916 to get something from my fren.

Reached my fren's place, gotten something from him, turned my ignition key, heard the usual fuel pump thingy and pressed my starter switch......

~To my horror, no response from the bike. No cranking sound, nothing. Turned off the ignition key and try again also nothing, but i heard the fuel pump thing. Horn, headlights and high beam are working fine. Checked my fuse box on the right hand side of my bike, nothing blown.

Suspecting it was just my starter switch spoilt, i got no choice but to call the tow truck to tow my 916 to my bike shop.

However 5 hours later when i dropped by my bike shop to pass the key to the bike shop's letter box(the bike shop wasn't open today so that my mechanic can do his troubleshooting on my bike 1st thing next morning), i tried my luck to try start my 916 again, to my horror, it started fine!

What's wrong with my 916??!!

I left my 916 there as a precaution measure so as to let my mechanic to a detail troubleshooting on my 916's electrics.

Any inputs on what might the problem be?

Thanks a lot!

My Dream Car, see who wants to cut my lane and tail-gate me......

Well, seems like problem solved!!! Is the repair expensive? You got the solenoid almost right, ke.

Check the relay on your right hand side, infront of your battery. Known to come loose on a Duc that's of this age. My 97 Duc also the same problem, and even the new owner also encountered this problem. The connection is a bit loose, that's all. You could change a new relay, up to you.

We happened to discuss this before. Unlucky for you not to read it, else could had save you some money on towing.

Exactly the same scenerio, electrically sound, pump worked, lights are cool, just no cranking! Mine happened at West Coast Mac after meeting some West Side Riders, and I guess the stripping of fairings, checking of fuses, and suddenly the bike fired up for no reason when I could not find any fault, kindda "scare" some from going Italian  This just deepen the faith in some hearts that Italian bikes have some funky temper not amusing to them at all.

It happened again next day, and I thought I wanna push start, but it fired up, when I realised jump starting the bike with STM clutchset is too difficult and I had to give up. It's so easy to jump the Duc on OEM clutchset, that I learnt too.

3rd time it happened outside Ducati Dealership of Singapore's Workshop. Luckily the Workshop Manager was there so he helped me with it, enlightening me with this knowledge of the relay.

Hope this helps, and at least you know what to do before calling tow truck, but seriously, who would had thought of that when it just fired up before the trip, right? I was lucky mine started after some panic and plead....imagine the disgust on my buddies' face when all put on helmets, and ready to go, the stupid Italian had to show it's temper and not wanna crank, ha.

By the way, where you normally service your 916 I would like to ask.

Luckily it didn't happened in M'sia or else ...... :giddy:

Hey Guys, anyone have a spare front fairing for 996 that they want to sell? Mine is looking pretty tatty with all the stone chips.

My bike doesn't seem to want to idle when the engine is cold. It will start but soon after the engine will stall. I have to apply throttle to keep the RPM at 1.5K till the the coolant temp is 60C before it will want to idle on its own. Is the idling too low at 1K RPM?

Sorry Guys THE ORIGINAL GOLD is no longer suitable for display

My 748 idle at 1.5k RPM. Twin engine needs more idling revs.
