IMPORTANT

 

A friend of mine spotted a Ducati Monster being left unattended at a carpark recently(there are a lot of dust and webs).... According to him, the fuel tank has been badly splashed with paint remover, and he could still recognise that the original paint work is Air-Brushed... I have the photos with me of the bike. But for the to respect the owner, i won't post the pictures in the forum and disclose the location of the bike yet... The number plate of the bike is FR 3818 Y... If no one still responds to this message then i will start uploading the pictures in the Lost and Found section and see whether will it help.

 

Guys pls ask around to see if anyone has lost a Ducati Monster recently... Me and my friend have not made any police report yet

Brand new costs around $42k inclusive on the road costs, more if you're younger.

i think that ducati bikes are like singer, when you are alive, you are never really that hot and popular. your albums dont sell so well. suddenly you commit suicide and hell everyone wants to grap a pc of your memorabilia.

once new model announced in 2007, all production of 999 series are discontinued. ie any thing you see for sale are all 2006 and before production.

I did a dyno test on my 999. Abt 120BHP. But it was good enough to 'Tear away' a CBR1000RR during accelaration.

Minerva & she say there twos 999 left,yellow & red 03 & 04 model,mileage 1000km & the other 20000+km,price 32k for low mileage & 23k for higher mileage.In the end i told her (Mary) in that case i better top up another 6k or less for 1098 cause i will paying in full,she told me she will give me a good price if i paying in full,i intend to go there mb next years early march cause im not in hurry to buy the bike.Anyway i will still chose 1098 over 999 due to the price Mary had given me just now.Need to place 1K deposit so that she would reserved the bike for me hehe.

Say, mind if you tell us what is your riding style? For sure, Duc superbikes are backbreakers for city riding, with rough idling below 4K RPM. Horsepower is not the strong point of V Twins anyways, but the Torque for which the V Twins of Ducati is well known. Use it right, it would be your best fren. You could easily "tear away" from a Jap production bike, but when it comes to top end speed, the V Twins of the Ducati loses out.

 

Another weaponry of the Ducati Superbikes at your disposal is the sweet handling, stiff chasis giving you valuable feedbacks, and the stability of the bike in the lean. However, this "planted" feeling is due to the heaviness of the Ducati, which requires more efforts from the pilot to wrestle the bike from side to side.

 

I love the Duc on the tracks, hate the bike in the city.

 

I'm sure Mary would hook you up with a good deal.

bro if you are not in a hurry, why not wait for the 2008 model. 2007 is model 1098 1st yr of production and as such ducati is bound to have some issues and subsequent productions are normally more reliable or with upgrades at the same price.

Ok,any issued when is the 2008 Ducati 1098 model will be out?So is there any news to confirm that the 1098 will be upgraded to improved version?Hope to gather more infos from ducati riders.Btw anyone here ride 1098?If yes what the svc price like compare to the 999bip?

you seems to be doing quite well financially, and i think since you wanted a ducati sports bike to fetch you from home to work only, you are someone who likes to differentiate yourself from the crowd.

 

get the desmosedici RR. so far only 1 order for whole of singapore.

Reservations for the Desmosedici RR have been accepted via the official Ducati dealer network since 2 June 2006 and will continue to be taken until 31 December 2007. Production will begin in October 2007 and first deliveries will be made to 999R owners who placed their Desmosedici RR order before 30 September 2006. Production of all remaining orders will be completed by December 2008.

Wow, if that's the case, maybe you would like to consider the Monster? With your cash, you could get the sweet S4R which is a 998 engine liquid cooled Monster, the best Monster so far in terms of looks and performance. Posture wise and riding 2up, you will be smiling and wondering why Duc sportsbike riders can never sit still on their saddle. Or how about considering the 996/998 series or even a 749? If you are still insisting on HP and dyno numbers, hands down, Duc sucks unless you could really crack the throttle very early in the corners. WSBK is the proof of Duc's lacking top speed, and simple modifications on a Jap bike literally tears a Duc to dust. Performance minded riders considered getting the Limited Edition R1 or souping up a Gixxer with Yoshi parts way economical and way better in performance. But if you are a V Twin soul charged rider, it's hard to kick the habit of not riding one

 

DOC is right about the latter yrs of 1098 being more reliable in terms of gliche issues they might have with the present 1098 because Duc tends to improve the superbikes when they are racing the machines. So far, only 2 ladies are racing the 1098 in the Y2K team, only in 2008 will the 1098 be raced intensively at WSBK, hopefully AMA and also BSB. It's a long story why it's improved this way, but the swingarm improvement for the 999 was resulted from these racings too. It pays to wait, unless you really want the bike to be a Duc owner or for the looks.

 

Servicings should be at an avg $1k at Minerva. Plus minus depending on adhoc rectifications. Quite many cases the bill ran above $1k but that's for bikes before 1098. 1098 claims a 50% cheaper maintenance, but we are waiting to see from some frens who owned it. Servicings are pretty close at every 10k, with the 20K (40, 60, 80k, etc) being the more expensive package. Downtime of 2 days normally to 3 days. You would clock 10k easily just based on commuting and weekend riding around in a yr.

 

About the Desmosidici, it's priced at 80k. It's limited edition, and a V4 road tuned MotoGP race bike. The 1st one pre-ordered for USA is due to arrive only next yr from US forums I read. Not 1 Desmo roll out of the factory yet till date though all units are already snapped up worldwide. SG is still quite a long way down the list, plus we are not even sure if there's an order for it or not. Stay away from the Desmo unless you intend to race it or keep it as a collection. Moreover, this bike is on priority order for existing owners with 999R or any R spec Duc Superbike. R spec Ducs are already too powerful for most of us, and the most common reviews from all sorts of bike mags is that you have to ride the R real hard, then will it be good, else it's a sickening and harsh bike. So imagine how the Desmo will be. It will definately be an overkill of performance for the average Joe, even the average racers. I only dare consider a 748R for my skills, seriously. You do not need the Desmo, R spec Duc for street riding, and it will take the joy out of it. Plus they dun come design for 2 up (Biposto), except for 749R.

 

Hope you dun take this as some sort of discouragement, but I'm just putting the facts straight because it's no joke spending over 30K for a bike. There is no margin for regrets once you buy one. Resale of Duc during the 1st few yrs is pretty bad because you either lose a lot $$$, or the buyer is better off buying a new bike. Just like a Jaguar, most potential buyers have means to buy a new one and will not consider 2nd hands. Almost all bikeshops would not even take it off your hands, unless they really make a kill out of you or you trade in (at a bad price) to pull out a bike from them. You could say that you will be pretty stuck if you got the Duc new, so you have to consider if this is the right bike for you.

Found a low miles 01 748R selling for USD$13k........ouch. And you know it's gonna bite the dust when I ride the 748R in the tracks man. Myself considering very hard, plus I know I still need racing fairings. What say you? Think I'm ready for the 748R?

Sorry, I've been a bit absent from this thread. If you're keen on going to the track, then take the bike you have now!

 

The Multi is a blast to ride. Sure, bikes with twice the BHP will pass you, but, in my case at least, people would pass me even if I were the one with twice the BHP.

 

Some caveats: NoLogicOne's advice about tires is correct. 1) I've been on the track with the Multi on both sport and sport-touring tires; you want the right rubber if possible, but either way it's still fun. 2) depending on your setup and riding style, you may eventually scrape the exhaust heat shield on fast right-handers. Your pegs ought to hit first and give warning, but grinding the shield can be, uh, an interesting experience.

 

There's something to be said, though, about tracking a bike that you normally ride, rather than one that sits until track day.

 

And there's a lot to be said about returning from Sepang dry and comfy in your touring gear, with leathers tucked in the top box, while your mates and their leathers are getting drenched in the downpour.

+1 to what Neo suggested! John (Multi4sale) was at Sepang with me and DOC in 2005 and he was having fun on his Multi! To be fair, the Multi had been a popular choice of weapon overseas for Production Twin Category, and I'm sure there is a reason for that! Of course, these Multi are sorted out well and setup properly of course, and yes, knee sliders are getting killed by racers on MultiStrada.

 

Of course, I would suggest that you put on Sport tyres like DC3, Sportec M3, Qualifiers, BT012SS (forget BT014 - they are crap for trackdays) or the Pilot Power 2CT before going in. Sports touring rubbers are really really not the right rubber, which I feel I need to address this issues as I believe many Multi owners are towards the Sports Touring tyres which gives long mileagues.

 

Oh of course, if you plan on racing tyres, even better! I coax my fren on a Frazer 1000 to try out race tyres and he simple love it, though he was constantly lapped by everyone. He always reached home safely, so who cares about the ego?
