Huh? Who rides a Duc without changing the steering rake angle? I thought riding the Duc without changing the angle is more adventurous?

Corse, adjust the angle, it's fun.....just be careful when you U turn. It feels weird, but you will get used to it. My regret is not meeting you at the tracks before I leave SG.

Adjusting Rake Angle...

up to individual... depending on track?

Last saturday's experience after chasing Tish aka stupid boy... was the 1st time i took the bike past 260~270 km/h... did not feel tt stable...I do not recall feeling that kind of instability when I blasted it @ 290 few years back with the stock settings/rake angle... other factors maybe at play?

Anyway that brought me to think the steeper rake rake may suit PG but not sepang...

Another thing to note was that I am able to close up the gap between Danny and myself in PG during the turn 7 to 10 but he'll claw that back especailly on turns 11 to 2

Had something to do with our rake angles?

Nope, nothing wrong with the rake angles.....there were Duc riders before us who adjusted the rake angles and are faster than Danny, you and me in PG or Sepang. How you claw back from Danny or how he pull away from you, are probably due to different riding styles.

Like Ming and myself, he's damn fast, and I realised he open his throttle way before me, and maybe, just maybe, I thought I tend to enter turns hotter than him. But that is not enough for me to even be comparable to Ming of course. It's just that we are different riders, have different feels, different techniques.

Maybe the best is you ride 2 Ducs back to back, both setup the same, same modifications, same tyres, same pressures, but different rake angles. Or you adjust the angle after 1 session and try the next to see the differences.

To adjust rake angles according to tracks would be too advance for us. Remember ZhongZhen 250GP Aprilia who are back markers in 250GP are smoking all of us during Sepang trackdays. We are pretty "off paced".

But it's good observations you felt something different. My bike managed nothing more than 240kph top speed and was stable enough for me  I told you to eat more, didn't I? Anyways, since our bikes are for tracks, how often we get to go 290? Tish and AKG are riding Busa anyways.

The adjusted angles help me turn the bike, and stretches the handle bars from me, which I like.

It's not to learn, it's all about sharing. i am just someone who is familiar with PG thats all, cos i have been tracking there for years. And it took me 5 bloody years to reach the timing of 1 min 53 that you have easily clock after u got ur Duke after months. But i got to admit the fact that my Duke brought me further than that in compared to any Jap bikes i had before. I was stuck at the margine of 2 minutes for 3 long years until my 749 came by. Dukes are so stable in the corners especially at low lean angle, and the power delivery are so much more expectable. If Charn can clock 1min 43 on my bike, with less than 5 laps of practise, i dun see there is any problem with the bike. The problem lies in me. But one got to be honest is that, we really got to exit a bend hard enough so that the in-line 4 dun blast pass us on the straights. Throttle control was made easier to handle due to the V-twin configuration, but it also made the whole situation more dangerous.

Race against urself first and not others. The process will make one more familiar with the bike. Just drill this in mind: U are no longer riding a in-line4. Ride a v-twin like how it is suppose to be. Take a step at a time. If u have the right attitude on the track , i bet u will improve in no time.

If the situation comes and u notice that u have been stuck at a certain particular timing, maybe it is time to take note of the following.

1) Is there anything wrong with ur teachnique?

2)Are the suspension setup properly to ur favour and riding teachnique? ( i rectify mine and earn 2-3 secs. I didn't even pay a single cent on this.)

3)Gear ratio...( This is the most common problem. I rectify mine, and i earn another 3 whole secs. It cost me less $90)

4) Throttle control...

5) Lines.....

6) Braking teahnique and braking points....

As u can see, i shave off 5 secs easily, by paying close attention to points number 2 and 3.

For me now, i think i have reached my limit, i have been trying ways to improve but to no avail... Maybe, this is how far my balls can carry me. Or in another words " I am Scared " to be honest. Haizzzz.....

It has been a long time since the Dukes had a gathering at PG liaoz..

http://photos-065.friendster.com/e1/photos/56/05/3125065/32918380118478l.jpg

My crazy friend on a CBR1000, clock 1.54.88 within less then 5 sessions at PG. Dammit. He's good.

I'm scared too. haha.. But on the track, i kinda forgot abt being scared sometimes...

I guess i'm just lucky, due to my job, My Crazy fren and myself was trained by a Japanese on street riding learning about Lining, braking, throttle control, posture, many others, before i started riding on the track. I've got a chance to ride on Motegi.:p last year. it was great. that made me interested in track riding, and after i came back from japan, i bought my 999.

Hi Duke Bro,the 848 good new is out in Milanhttp://www.ducati.com/en/bikes/my2008/Superbike/SBK848-08/images/ml_image-lead-gen.gif & i hope that the price is right for me.

LIGHTWEIGHT MOVES - HEAVYWEIGHT PUNCH

The new 848 enjoys all the performance advancements of the entire Superbike family, while adding its own innovations to redefine the middleweight sport bike class.

The words 'agile' and 'refined' aptly describe the 848. At 168 kg (369 lbs) the 848 is an amazing 20 kg (44 lbs) lighter than its predecessor, and a significant 5 kg (11 lbs) lighter than its larger capacity brother, the 1098.

The highly advanced 848 engine uses an improved method of engine case production in which cases are vacuum die-cast formed. While providing significant weight savings of more than 3 kg (6.5 lbs), this method also ensures consistent wall thickness and increased strength. Further refinements include a sophisticated wet clutch that offers 1 kg (2.2 lbs) less weight, a much higher service life, improved clutch feel and quiet operation.

With the first twist of the wrist, the powerful rush of the Testastretta Evoluzione engine confirms that the rules have changed. The 848's 134 hp is not only 30% more powerful than its predecessor, but it provides a power-to-weight ratio even better than the potent 999.

The 848 - a new class of Superbikes.

Rumors point to a swappable dry clutch unit, but then again, the 848 is still very new.

Wet clutch for better clutch life? Hmmmm...........not so sure about it, when I could use mine pretty long o_O

I can hear the "Ching ching ching" demon telling me "Dry clutch good...." in my head! It's like an old bad habit coming at ya

The 848 would be fitted Showas, not bad. But no MonoBloc front brakes. Will come as Biposto as a standard. So you get pillon footpegs for free

Not sure there's steering dampers or not though...will check when free.

Part of the fun of riding a Ducati is using an open clutch cover and confusing all who are un-initiated to the 'charms' of Ducatis. :D

I just love the puzzled looks when I shift to neutral and clutch out.

ENGINEERED BY THE STOPWATCH

The Superbike family for 2008 features two important changes: the introduction of a mid-engine size version, the light and nimble 848, and an extreme 'racing' version for all those who demand the maximum performance, the 1098 R version that will take part in the 2008 World Superbike Championship.

The priority in every step of the 848 and 1098 development has been performance first. Every system, every detail and every component has been studied, pared down to its essence and performance increased to the maximum. If it didn't make our Superbike lighter, faster or deliver quicker lap times, it wasn't considered. The result: the 1098 is the most powerful twin-cylinder motorcycle in the world. The 848 and 1098 are the lightest, fastest stopping, quickest lapping Ducati Superbikes in history. For the first time Ducati MotoGP and World Superbike technology have been combined to create premier sport bikes. The results are stunning.

DESIGNED BY THE RACETRACK

The look and stance of the 848 and 1098 were designed by the combination of race track technology, track-derived components and Ducati heritage. Their striking aerodynamic shape naturally embraces a riding position, configured by our racers and test riders for optimum speed and agility. The racing spirit takes form.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

The new Ducati Superbikes immediately strike you with their purposeful, no-nonsense attitude. Performance is first and foremost in every detail.

Trademark Ducati features like the high tail section and compact front-end meld with twin under-seat silencers and single-sided swingarm to express aerodynamics and agility. Add the new Testastretta Evoluzione engine at the heart of the machines and you get all-out performance Ducati Superbikes that seem to be moving fast, even when at rest.

A number of 'firsts' for Ducati and production sport bike design have been introduced. The 848 and 1098 are the first to have a data acquisition system integrated as standard equipment and the first to use an ingenious construction method for its weight-saving single-sided swingarm. More 'firsts' for a road-going Ducati include the direct application of MotoGP technology, like the power producing GP6-derived elliptical throttle bodies and the use of the information-rich instrumentation originally developed for the Desmosedici GP7. Furthermore, the 1098 is the first production motorcycle to have the amazing stopping power of Brembo Monobloc brakes.

The throaty roar of the twin under-seat exhausts are synchronized with the howl of the elliptical throttle bodies providing a fitting fanfare for the new Testastretta Evoluzione engine.
