3/0 , i get back to u!

an article,some of u might 've missed,thru d weekend!

(hate it,when ppl come out to u & ask ,hey u saw the article dat day abt....but u 've NOT the faintest ideas, what they talking abt)

s'pore ducati owners may 've pledge allegiance to one colour but they all 've..........

DIFFERENT REASON TO RIDE.

THEY may all ride Ducati motorcycles and paint the town red as a group.

RED AND REVVING: The Ducati brotherhood at the Sepang International Circuit on one of the trackdays organised by the Rev Club.

[/img]

But each Ducati owner sings a different tune.

For Ducatisti or Italian for Ducati enthusiasts, the reasons why they choose to own Ducati bikes are as varied as the colours of the rainbow.

For some, it

Mr Tan, 51, who owns two Ducatis - a Monster S4RS and a 1098S - said that getting a motorcycle depends on what you intend to use it for.

As a member of the Ducati Owners Club Singapore (DOCS), he prefers to ride his Italian-made Monster because of its upright riding position, speed and agility.

Said Mr Tan, a former commercial diver: 'I get to go touring on a motorcycle with sportsbike-like handling.'

[/img]

On weekends, Mr Tan joins other members of the DOCS, founded in 2006, on their usual Sunday Lunch Rides or SLRs.

This takes them into Malaysia where, after several hundred kilometres of riding, the club members would break for lunch.

Added Mr Tan:

Like other registered bike clubs, the DOCS supports a charity - the Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society - through donations and charity rides.

DOCS also conducts a memorial ride each year for friends who are no longer with them, including those who have died in road accidents.

So what is a typical Ducati rider?

It's hard to say. Mr Joseph Lee, sales manager at Ducati Singapore, says there's a good mix of young and old.

A little of everything

He said: 'We have students and also people in the 70s who ride our motorcycles. Ducati is a brand known for racing, yet there are some who buy Ducati motorcycles without even knowing (about) top racers like Casey Stoner or Troy Bayliss.'

To date, there are more than 650 registered Ducati motorcycles plying Singapore roads. About 200 Ducati owners are members of DOCS.

But lumping all Ducati owners as people with deep pockets is not a fair assumption, said Mr Lee.

He added: 'True, we have rich owners who think nothing of buying a $130,000 Ducati and strangely clocking only 3km in a year. Quite a handful own more than one Ducati motorcycle.

'But we also sell our bikes to people whose dream is to own a Ducati.'

These Ducatisti have been stung by what Mr Lee calls the 'twin-cylinder bug'.

Unlike motorcycles with an inline four-cylinders configuration, the signature L-twin Ducati engine produces more torque from below the rev range.

Such performance benefits are what circuit-riding riders love about their Ducati sportsbike.

Home for these riders is the winding turns at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.

Said Mr Muhammad Azami, 35: 'What brings us together is the need for speed. Of course, we want to have fun, but also do it safely.'

It was for these reason that four Ducati owners decided to form the non-profit Rev Club in late 2008.

The goal of the club is to create a camaraderie and platform for like-minded sportsbike enthusiasts to enjoy trackday sessions at race circuits.

Mr Azami, who is one of the four co-founders, said that 15 trackdays would have been organised by year's end.

The Rev Club books six weekends in a year for its activities at Sepang.

Each of these trackdays, which is also open to non-Ducati riders, is a sold-out event attracting a about 60 riders. It costs about $175 for each weekend track session.

Mr Azami added: 'In the future, we hope to work with international racers who can help coach our riders to become better at circuit riding.

'At the same time we intend to keep costs low so as not to turn off participants

Hey Snow...

I have had two 2nd hand Duc's, no real problems, I do consider myself to be quite technicall savvy and think I can generally spot if there's a problem...

how old are you thinking? they have a 2 year warranty, if you buy within this period, it's still fixed for free.

Parts are still available on ebay and they're cheap, you can get almost anything, I like to have spares just in case something goes wrong (normally my fault, like dropping it at the gas station and breaking bars - F$%K!), there's also plenty of aftermarket parts available too.

Servicing is not really any more expensive than a Jap bike, minerva may charge a little more (generally worth it though) but there are other good guys out there too

the only problem is once you've owned a Duc, you'll never go back - be warned, it's addictive!

It doesn't matter what the question is, the answer is more power!

Hey I oso live HDB ley...must live in HDB then can free up funds to own the Duc. Agree that you have to cover up to avoid unnecessary attention. I used to leave my bikes uncovered without an incident the last 6 years...that was until one fine afternoon I found my mirrors and signal lights missing and now it is covered all the time. Of course the ideal situation is to have your own garage but that is a luxury that only a few S'porean can afford.

Personally living in HDB is indeed a factor for considering.

I have a colleague with old and normal bike for daily use, covered with bike cover in shelter carpark and overnight the bike gets disturbed quite frequently... (bike seat gets cut, brake line get cut, switches get turn on/ off, etc).

Dont think he offended anyone cos he is really a mild temper, friendly person.

That area unfortunately is notorious for disturbances like these... Bikes get set on fire quite frequently as well... This famous carpark is at W*O*L***S. In case you live there, you might want to think about it...

Anyone knows of any other 'dangerous area'?

I live in a HDB. Fortunately have not encountered any incidents. But to avoid any, I cover my bike (and tie up) even though it is sheltered carpark and also leaving it at a prominent spot.

I agree with the last part. When you buy your first Duc, very soon you will buy another. I am already itching to get number 3...see how it goes at the end of the year.

Ideally, I would like to park my bike in my living room. Admiring it all the time while watching MotoGP or something.. lolx...

Saw some pics of people doing just that in other forums!

I didnt state that owning a Duc would be such a head-turner that one who lives in a HDB should not buy it to prevent prying eyes. And that its a bike fit for those who live in condos/terraces/bungalows.

Ducati, BMW, HD are all just bikes. Just like my Phantom TA150.

Well u have the same concern as i have before i bought a duc. I believed most ppl owning a duc is the passion tat they have in a ducati. Well if you got tat passion, nothing could stop u. Just my 2cts thought. Peace :thumb:

bro if you have problems with balancing better not consider ducati first, it is much heavier than japs bike and if you drop a fairing bike it is going to cost you heart ache

u mean dis???

[/img]

woa, some heavy discusion abt the heartland!

ideally, exotic bikes/cars should reside in some exotic district but there again , we

many of times,i 've rode down to less than reputable bike shop & i was sized up immediately & before i know it , 1 of the local come up to me & wanted to know how much a ducati cost & i wans the price NEW!

woa !

its the pride of ownership, not everyone can afford it fresh from bologna , the rest of us can settle for a 13 years old one ,juzz like mine.rather than forever chasing a dream,we can get in there, sooner or never @ all !

but there again, after you 've purchase yr dream liner u gotta protect it lah! alarm/cover/lock(s),the more the merrier,i used to 've 2 covers on my bike!

notice the local practice is ,they can be forever talking abt their dream bike/having the wallpaper&screensaver in their lap top/collecting 1:6 minichamps/magazine&internet report but the moment they owns it ,dats it,end of story.

its not the end by any means but a start of a beautiful relationship, treasure it.

u can park yr pride&joy in yr living room,no problem!

noe of somebody who does dat.

there's some comment i get from facebook regarding the new paper article,i posted it dat day.

ownership versus mileage?

some guys dun like the idea of ppl keeping their 130k machine but travels only 3km a year!

all i can say is TO EACH ITS OWN,

i 'm sure ppl in dat category would like to go out more but life , like many things is a compromise.

i noe of a taiwanese jet set who arrange for his new toy to be send to his home but when he's back in town ,he can juzz abt afford a thumbing of the starter button & listen to his duke sing for a few precious seconds!

alas,so much things to do , so little time.

all makes of ppl in dis world , live & let live, old chap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
