As usual, its always nice to meet up with u guys. For me the highlight of the day was really when we spotted a dark 749/999 coming from the distance, the feeling was like Tio Beh Pio! Finally a 999 has broke cover n joined us! Good on u, Jason!

Then when Fracis pulled up in his Bike of the Year, it was like tio beh pio 2 times!!! Two bikes that seems to be missing in our collection turned up in quick succession! Amazing!

The convoy ride was the most disciplined one since i joined the group. It was neat & tidy and law abiding in speed, think Fesa need to lead more often?

Thanks guys for the great company! Until next ride... Huat ah!

HMM, WHAT SHOULD I RIDE? 91.3FM radio DJ Rod Monteiro, 42, with his collection of nine motorcycles and 10 bicycles

[/img]

Pls take radio DJ Rod Monteiro with his motorbikes and bicycles for Star Bucks. He has 9 motorbikes and 10 bicycles, total cost is close to $200,000

WHAT started off as a passion became an obsession, and is now almost a burden.

He admitted he would probably need another four years to pay off the instalments for some of them.

He is also taking on more shows to host so he can settle the bills faster.

The man is nevertheless looking at things optimistically.

'You've got to have money. It's isn't everything, but it is in a strange way because of my passion. I don't like to chase money.

'Once I've settled my bills for the bikes, I will get on with life and go back to being a chill-out chap.'

Monteiro added that life is now in 'chaos' because of the finances for the motorbikes and bicycles he owns.

The passion started four years ago after he rode pillion on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle for a Tourism Australia radio show he was doing.

He said he was fascinated with the motorbike's speed and the lifestyle it presents.

After that, he went for tests to get his Class 2 licence, which has three levels, allowing him to ride motorcycles in various engine capacities.

'You get a different feeling when you are on a motorcycle. You can think about stuff with the sound of the engine droning behind you,' he told us excitedly.

'You can get away from the rut of everyday life.'He considers his bikes works of art and rides bicycles as a sport and they don't come cheap.

He has an MV Augusta Brutale, which he bought for $42,000. A special edition Triumph Thruxton cost $24,000, a Ducati limited edition Paul Smart bike was bought for $22,000, and he paid $20,000 for a modified Harley-Davidson Heritage bike.

He also has two Yamaha RD 350 motorbikes from the 1980s that cost $1,500 each, as well as two second-hand Vespa scooters which cost $1,000 and $2,000 respectively. And for those second-hand motorbikes, he has spent close to $10,000 sprucing them up.

Monteiro displayed a flair for the dramatics after he got his Kawasaki GPZ 900R Ninja bike, the same model that Tom Cruise rode in his movie Top Gun. He bought it second-hand at $7,000.

He told us cheekily: 'The first thing I did after I got the bike was to put my wife on it, ride it to Changi Coast Road and wait for a plane to fly past.

'I had the song Take My Breath Away singing in my mind. She thought it was cheesy.'

One of the more expensive bicycles he has is a limited edition Trek designed by professional racing cyclist Lance Armstrong, which set him back $12,000.

He also has a limited edition 60th anniversary Colnago Ferrari bicycle, which cost $16,000, and a $9,000 Litespeed triathlon bicycle. He said he earns a high four-figure salary every month and pays more than $2,000 a month in instalments for his collection and his $70,000 Kia Sorento car.

But Monteiro's very possessive about his collection. No one should touch them, he said.

'I hate it when people ask to borrow my bikes. I'd think to myself, do you want to borrow my wife too?

'It's the same thing. You are invading my space. I can give you a ride on my bike, but don't touch it.'His wife, Joyce, a housewife in her 30s, is understanding about his passion.

'She told me to go ahead and do what I like because I'm working hard for the money,' Monteiro told us.

'She said to go and get my dreams first, then later fulfil her dreams of shopping and travelling.'

The couple have an eight-year-old son, Darion.
