Just got my 2B in June, abit scare....friend says wait till next year then join durian trip. Riding a phantom, engine still die on me occasionally (forget to tap down to 1st gear!)

So organizer, advisable for a newbie like me to join trip?

Cheers!

Yes. Of course you may join. Once you go for a ride on our neighbour roads, back in SG, you will ride with lotsa confidence. This trip is catered for everyone to join & newbie riders for confidence road experience. Do join for this outing.

Just make sure that your bike is checked before the trip. As stated in my 1st post.

Cheers

Don't worry, last year my wife went on this trip after getting her license for only one week. no problems there. But make sure you find a buddy, don't go for the trip with the group and come back alone. Best is you can follow the main group to and fro.

From my very little experience, it is no fun traveling 100s of kms on the NSH with heavy downpour most of the way.

With at least an experienced partner, everything will be fine.

Hi both,

Though I'm not going for the trip but this is 2 cents that I still felt like sharing. No offence meant. Even with an experienced partner, there is no guarantee that things will go well. Even if it did, there is no need to risk it.

I'm not sure what is the confidence level you might have 1 month from the date of your licence possession, but if it was me, I wouldn't consider a 150km trip into unfamiliar grounds so shortly after I embark on my new transport. My technical skills should be one of my least worries when I want to go for a riding trip, on top of so many conditions that you have to be wary about i.e. Bike condition(2nd hand bike?), weather, convoy riding patterns, physique, weird people... goes on.

As you have already mentioned that you are a little scared, then you will be even more afraid on a foreign land. If you are already not confident on a native condition, it is very likely that anyone(not just you) will screw up under stress.

Burdened with that, and you have to endure a 300km road/riding fatigure [150km thru n fro], it's not advisable for a newbie as you probably do not even understand how your body feels after riding for >1 hour. In my humble opinion.

Agree with you mostly. But my experience with the organizer at the last years trip, newbies are mostly well taken care of as a group.

When going to the farm, most newbies will be pretty excited, thus not much problem. It is the return trip that is more challenging, most will already be a bit tired. Thus it is safer for newbies to follow a more experience group to maximize safety.

I agreed with the above mentioned postings in one way or another.

Ultimately , its the rider himself/herself who makes the final call .

If he/she have the confidence in himself/herself in joining this trip

& have confidence with the status of his/her bike , no harm joining.

On the other hand , rest assure that the organiser

will take every step possible to make this trip safe & enjoyable/memorable for all.

On the contrary, it is good to start off early. This way, your body will not be so used to riding in SG conditions only. Like the saying goes, if you want to shape a bamboo plant, start when it is still a shoot..

To cut short, you will tend to develop lesser bad habits prior to learning good ones from the more experienced ones.. So its easier in a way..

Like all the bros here mentioned, when riding in convoys, all will lookout for one another... So no worries..
