Hi guys,

Appreciate if any experienced riders can give me their inputs on the possible issues with my TA200.

Background: Had an accident in July 2013, bike was sent to workshop and repaired and was kept at my MCP ever since. Initially was able to start engine but I did not ride as I was still recovering from my injuries. So the battery died, unable to start at all (no lights at all). Then this few days, I wanted to get it up and running so my dad's friend helped me changed the battery to a new one. Able to on lights etc but unable to get the engine running. After the initial start lots of fluid seemed to leak from the bottom of my bike then after awhile it stopped. The engine was only able to be running if I kept the throttle on. Once idle, it will off. Then my dad's friend said it could be not enough petrol. So I went to petrol kiosk, bought petrol and refuelled my bike. However the same problem persisted but this time even if I applied full throttle, engine can't on :(

What could be the issue?

Thanks!

Emmanuel

P.S new battery was $55, confirm that is normal price?

Hey guys, wanted to check if you guys ever had this problem where there's a tapping/clicking noise coming out from the top of the engine when accelerating and popping sounds when you close the throttle. The tapping sound increases together with the acceleration and its damn loud! This problem only started at about 1500km after its overhaul. Anyway, wanted to check if it is still safe for me to ride for a few days before I get it back to planet for a check.

Need to check what was leaking. If its fuel then engine will cut off once fuel runs dry. Coming to this point, have you checked your fuel cock whether its at the "off" position? I rode halfway and engine died just minutes away from my carpark. I thought it was some major fault...then I realized some itchy hand turn my fuel cock to off...

check the engine idling knob is it turned all the way down.

i had this problem once, once i let go the throttle the engine died, had it tolled to the shop for 30$ then learned it the hard way.

guessed someone turned the knob while i was away

I've been running more than 10000km without changing spark plug and brake fluid. All I've been changing is EO, should I be changing those 2 anytime soon?

after overhaul? go back to shop asap. could be wrong valve clearance as well as out of tune carb.

for those 2, yearly change is good practice.

1. verify what fluid was leaking and from which part of bottom of bike - if oil, check gasket around crankcase sealing surfaces, check oil drain plug,

if petrol, check carb bowl area etc

2. as the rest mentioned, check petcock and idling adjustment knob. more likely to be latter.

3. if open full throttle and cannot crank - check engine kill switch.

4. if can crank already after #3, might be engine flooded. if bike dropped by someone one in MCP this may happen.

5. check air filter. if idle is set correctly then might be air filter too dirty, hence must open throttle to maintain to lean mixture.

6. alternatively drain all petrol from tank and fill with new petrol. petrol might be too old. its half a year and its one hell of along time.

they say 10% difference. 100 (on meter) = 87 on gps (consistently)

I just recently ordered a ceramixer (EO oil additive) from the internet. Supposed to restore a ceramic-metal bonded surface to anywhere the EO goes. I just completed the 100km run-in.

I won't know the effect on FC until this tank of fuel runs out, but I did notice that the engine now runs at a slightly different pitch as compared to without the additive previously. Engine power wise, can't really tell for now, as the entire process takes about 1000km for complete run in.

Look up Ceramizer in google and see for yourself what it says.

Just completed a tank of fuel on ceramizer. FC improved marginally from 32ish to 34ish. Butt-dyno says that there is no difference in power or speed. The audible difference is the lowered Engine noise which is a rather pleasant hum at cruising/ low revs.

Will continue and monitor.

I got several questions. Rode my phantom for 2 weeks so far since buying from another guy. I'm the third owner.

1) Does my chain need lubrication?

http://i.imgur.com/T6RUwoml.jpg

2) How's my air filter? This is considered ok right?

http://i.imgur.com/FF9vHYYl.jpg

3) I noticed some oil after removing the air filter. Is it normal?

http://i.imgur.com/PH5oWPTl.jpg

4) According to the manual this is the crankcase breather tube. It looks like it's full of oil and some deposits... is it? I couldn't remove the plug at the end; is it supposed to be twisted off or pulled off?

http://i.imgur.com/N1GXgxtl.jpg

5) At gear 6, the sound from the engine is different. I hear a high pitched shh-shh-shh sound. Is this ok?

6) When not warmed up, the engine sometimes dies when I start to turn the accelerator to move off at gear 1. Is this ok?

7) After riding and parking my bike and turning off the engine, I hear a tickticktick sound around the exhaust area. Is this ok?

8) My headlight indicator on the dash isn't working. Is it easy to DIY fix it?

Thanks!

>>cant tell but the previous guy prob did some cleaning before selling. doesnt hurt to lube a lil though

2) How's my air filter? This is considered ok right?

http://i.imgur.com/FF9vHYYl.jpg

>>cant see like that - dunno if there are shadow lines or just dirt. if you put it up to day light and can see through its probably new.

3) I noticed some oil after removing the air filter. Is it normal?

http://i.imgur.com/PH5oWPTl.jpg

>> this is normal for ta200. seems like a design issue but good to monitor your eo level.

4) According to the manual this is the crankcase breather tube. It looks like it's full of oil and some deposits... is it? I couldn't remove the plug at the end; is it supposed to be twisted off or pulled off?

http://i.imgur.com/N1GXgxtl.jpg

>> got some hose clip. it will come off with the right angle and some elbow grease.. but dont overwork it. - and prepare a cloth underneath to standby!

5) At gear 6, the sound from the engine is different. I hear a high pitched shh-shh-shh sound. Is this ok?

>>cant ans that bro. recommend that u go to reputable mechanic for diagnosis.

6) When not warmed up, the engine sometimes dies when I start to turn the accelerator to move off at gear 1. Is this ok?

>> normal for me once in a while dependant on weather. unless it happens all the time even if u open throttle slowly and it will go away after 2nd start.

7) After riding and parking my bike and turning off the engine, I hear a tickticktick sound around the exhaust area. Is this ok?

normal. exhaust contracting slowly after riding. read: motherbugging hot

8) My headlight indicator on the dash isn't working. Is it easy to DIY fix it?

define "isnt working"? that indicator is only on only if u highbeam. personally nvr took out a bulb from there before.

Thanks!

Thanks sawfly! Learnt lots today.

Can see through the air filter. So it's probably good to go.

Fiddled quite a bit with the hose clip but couldn't get it to come off. Will try again next time.

For my headlight indicator, yeap it doesn't light up when I set it to high beam. Just noticed it a few days ago when I was playing with the lights.

Good to hear! Guess the previous owner replaced the filter before he let it go. Anyway if the filter was at 5k mileage I wouldn't be able to see through but it's usable anyway. Recommended 10000km.

Ok. BTW any way to describe how to remove the hose clip for the crankcase breather? All that oil and dirt is bugging me subconsciously hahaha.

Used a pliers to clamp the spring clip. Then loosen the plug and drain into a container, please. Save the environment.

Thanks matthias! Just squeeze the clip and it loosens. The hard part was wrenching the plug free of the tube.

I wanted to change my engine oil but I had trouble loosening the nut. Gonna buy a proper 17mm wrench to try again.

Posted

I tried with a 18mm wrench but it was too big. I measured it with vernier calipers and it read 17mm. Am I looking at the wrong nut after all? Hmmm

Posted

Have u used a 17mm socket or a box spanner yet?
