wah this thread still survives! i used to work in sentosa resort and spa 4 years back and there was this permanent hotel guest that rides a harley. he's allowed to do so.

i think sentosa cove residents can do so too.

its double standard but that's life.

its not double standard bcoz u r riding bike but they juz have 2 make sure its an authorised bike tat allow 2 enter.

de funny thing is, why bikes not given decal? u can see them smile and wave v. happily to car drivers. when i reach de counter, face change big time. "wait wait. no entry." seriously treated like criminal. didn't even ask me den give me a stamp "condemned" already. so sad. just picture urself at checkpoint, all car go past and go past, den suddenly police stop u, check this check tat, so frustrating rite?

den tell them "registered already, sentosa cove." den they check de paper, den see my number plate, den de smile suddenly come bk, den let me in, and stuff like, "have a nice day!" will u be happy? den go inside kana stop again by TP (aka spark135 Ranger), ask again. hai.

btw, i've told a few of them off before. i just tell them, why must i be checked everytime i come in? so many times. just because i ride a bike? no way manz!:slapforehead:

i personally sen ferraris, lambos, mercs and bmws, all speeding in sentosa.

along de bridge all open throttle already, nothing is done one.

when they go past de sentosa staff, the staff still smile and wave at them one. when i go in, they ask this and tat, give u a different face and look and they check my bike again and again even though i registered long ago. cars on de other hand, all wave and go in one. they got a decal but bikes, not given. is tat double standards?

Tat's life my frd.

Welcome to sikapore.

I predict the next ban for bikes to enter will be at the future IR at marina south.

Petition To Sentosa for Allowing Motorbikes To Enter

...

Why cars and not motorbikes?

Taxi, buses and cars are the transport in favoured with many people among those who intend to go there. It makes the road less "rowdy" inside the vicinity,if you get what I mean. So,there are standards within the limitation.

Likewise, motorcyclist have the tendancy to park bikes on curbs or footpaths and this impose a negative outlook on Singapore since Sentosa is a major icon. Besides that, motorcyclist will also tend to squeeze and weave in and out of traffic as like what i say "rowdy". There is no need to have traffic police or cisco buggers to look after "these kind of people".We are riders,to be frank,8 out 10 riders are doing this.

...

I disagree. you should see how bikers park their bike in other countries, and see if they even wear helmet. See, someone in US can ride a big bike after he just pass his license.

I don't think it is rowdy, unless you know a country which rides less rowdy than Singaporeans (Malaysians? kekekeke!)?

Now that Vivo's parking charges are so high, really hope Sentosa allows bikes in! If not there won't be any other ideal alternatives.

one thing i dont understand is... bikes take up SIGNIFICANTLY LESSER amount of space... and with a CAR already in this situation... shouldn't they ban cars too as they'd be deemed as "unsafe"? what if it explodes?

its the mindset

in most asian countries, bikers are seen as the poor and infamous

while in ang mo land, bikers are seen as people who ride for pleasure and have character so are treated differently

Most people go through life following the crowd.

Others think for themselves.

They go their own way.

As much as I like to think that the majority of us are considerate and responsible riders, there will always that small minority who will ruin the whole perception. I think that even if they allow bikes on Sentosa, some stupid, inconsiderate bunch of riders will ensure that it won't stay that way for long.

Instead, I think that maybe Sentosa should look at the possibility of opening up the roads for certain number of days only. Maybe allow motorbike access on weekends only? That would be more manageable i think.

well...majority of the drivers are responsible drivers as well, theres also will be a small minority of the drivers who are idiots. since this is same between bikers and drivers, why are we the one whos banned and not those idiotic drivers? if this is not discrimination, what is? imo..i think should ban all private vehicles in sentosa..only public transports are allowed in.

Dear Mr Raj

Thank you for your email dated 16 October.

Please allow us to explain our stance concerning the prohibition of motorcycles on the island.

As you may be aware, our narrow roads can be very busy and tricky to negotiate, especially with full-sized buses rounding corners. It is therefore particularly hazardous for smaller vehicles such as motorcycles and bicycles. While we have designated bicycle trails around the island, it is not possible for us to do the same for motorcycles and hence, the restricted access for motorcycles.

We are also concerned about pedestrian safety as motorcyclists riding all around the island can easily stray onto our cycling tracks, beach roads (which are also closed to public vehicles), pavements for pedestrians and other areas where cars cannot venture.

Notwithstanding the above, motorcycles are given restricted access on the island in exceptional cases as follows:

1) Authorised courier/despatch riders whose main mode of transport is motorcycles. Stringent checks are made by our staff at the main gantry. Riders must produce valid documents before they can enter

2) Our rangers who go on their checks around the whole island including the beach access roads which are closed to public vehicles. Sometimes, they are also required to escort heavy vehicles such as long trailers or, during emergencies, ambulance vehicles into the island.

3) Residents who have Sentosa Cove registered as their address in their identity cards.

These residents may apply for vehicle entry permits for their motorcycles which are strictly for travel between the Sentosa Causeway gantry and Sentosa Cove, and within Sentosa Cove. All other areas of Sentosa Island are off-limits.

Other than these exceptional cases, all visitors, hotel guests, restaurant patrons, employees, contractors and suppliers are not allowed to ride in with their motorbikes.

Sentosa welcomes over 5 million visitors annually. In the long run, we envision that we can no longer cater to the substantially higher volumes of visitors to the island with our current infrastructure and will need to make further improvements to facilitate movement of guests on the island. We are reviewing the next phases of improvements to our transport infrastructure and looking into other long term measures that will better address any issues of over-capacity islandwide.

Managing our island as a resort destination is and will remain Sentosa's point of distinction.

We appreciate your taking the time to write to us. It has always been our corporate policy to engage our guests on a personal level, so as to better address their concerns . We prefer to adopt this more personable approach when responding to feedback from our guests, rather than to engage in protracted discussions on these public forum groups.

Thank you for giving us this opportunity to clarify our stand, and we look forward to your support.

Have a good weekend.

Best Regards

Subject: Feedback/Enquiry received from Sentosa website

Dear Sir/Madam,

Below is the feedback/enquiry received from Sentosa website:

Salutation : Mr

First Name : Dinesh

Last Name : Raj

Contact No. : 6582825809

Email : [email protected]

Country of residence : Singapore

Feedback : Dear Sir, Mam',

Having moved to Singapore fairly recently, I was raher surprised to hear that the general public is not allowed to ride their motorcycles into Sentosa.

What puzzeled me further was that, I personally know a handful of people (common friends and collegues), who happened to be residing at Sentosa Cove and/or working on the island itself, and they do ride their two-wheelers into and around island.

I am recently aware that it is stated explictly on the Sentosa website that motorcycles are not allowed onto the island.

Another recent event also exposed me to a rather disturbing web-log on the Singapore Bike Forums. I was surprised to see a web-post almost 5 years old to date, with regards to the unhappiness of motorcycles not being allowed onto the island. Even upsetting was the fact that no official reply has been released by the management regarding this issue.

I sincerely urge the management to view this example with added seriousness and maturity.

A review of the rules would be much appreciated. A decent official reply from the management would be the least expected.

I have attached the URL below for your convinience.

Thank you for your time and have a good day.

Awaiting your views on the above issue,

Regards,

Raj.

Its a simple rationale ...

when it comes to rd taxes, road usage etc ...motorcyclists shd be charged evenly, but sentosa... belongs to the people of singapore...nv heard the whole island was purchased by any private coy.

even if the sentosa couldnt be ride in, at least let us ride over and park at an area near the bridge and take a bus to enjoy the rest facilities.

so they expect bikers to walk over while car owners drive in????

Sigh .... so bored ...

Agreed, no need to change their policy to allow bikes all over the island.

Just build a Bike Park for the motorcyclists to park at the other end of the bridge. :thumb:

It's not that expensive, to paint a few lines on the tarmac right?

Motorcyclist are the nicest people on the road, try not to kill us.

face the fact.. double standard is everywhere.. cars will continue to be allowed in but not bikes.. not because bikes pose more danger, more noisy than cars.. its because bikes are not cars.. more noise? i believe cars can just be as loud as bikes.. its not fair saying bikes are more dangerous, it depends on the rider.. a dangerous driver can cause lots more damage and pose more danger..

are these drivers allowed? yes. why? cause they drive. its been generalized that cars safer than bikes. so what if many of us riders dun ride dangerously? there are many others who does and therefore its been lumped together as bikes are dangerous.

lppl..

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

the reply from Amy Yip shows so obviously that she doesnt ride.

"As you may be aware, our narrow roads can be very busy and tricky to negotiate, especially with full-sized buses rounding corners. It is therefore particularly hazardous for smaller vehicles such as motorcycles and bicycles."

a reply like there are buses going around and we are afraid for the lives of motorcyclist is so B.S.

u mean there are no other narrow roads in spore?

or only buses travel round sentosa?

or should I thank her for thinking of the safety of all bikers??

but if I think this way, does it make her an acomplice for murder if one of the residents die going round the corner on his bike just because she allowed him access???

I can go on and on..............if our president rides a bike, it would be a different story...........

Most people go through life following the crowd.

Others think for themselves.

They go their own way.

My proposal is why don't they built a motorcycle circuit inside like the F1 circuit they have in Marina but this one is permanent and Sentosa management can charge the bikers for it. The way to the circuit must use some designated lane only so no conflict and danger with the other road users. Everything is possible. This is win win situation for bikers and Sentosa. We enjoy and they make money why not. Beside this circuit built a big bike parking lot. Bikers can also park there. I believe Sentosa is big enough or they can reclaim somemore lands. I don't think the noise can hear all over the island, it's big enough. Those who work for Sentosa pls help make petition.

what a suggestion... designated lane for bikers some more!

Do you think a casino will make more money or a track will make more money? :faint:

then sentosa will say it bans bikes for safety reason too..

i would also like to try riding in sentosa.. it's a superb racetrack with all the curves there.

Yah loh... build designated lane for bikers waste $$$ & precious land...

Only contractors will be happy as they can build & collect $$$, and then later demolish and collect $$$ again.

You can sure, if Sentosa has designated lane, many bikers choose to ride anything but the designated lane, and do something extra ...:giddy:

.. its because bikes are not cars..

This is exactly the point...it is not easy for cars to go anywhere expect on proper roads & parking lots etc, unless the driver tries Hollywood stunt. Even if in an event of accident, it is on the road or nearby.

Can the same be say for bikes? The answer is laid... whether it is easy for public to see many bikers choose to park illegally etc in spite of proper parking space nearby... The smaller the bike, the more interesting parking lot he can invent, even from nowhere.

How often we see cars on pavement & bikes on pavement?

its been generalized that cars safer than bikes.

Give example:

1) A car on the road out of the control & killed 2 on the pavement...

2) A bike riding on pavement injured a young man on pavement...

What do you think the public reaction will be if these 2 incidents happen?

1) Banned bikes from Sentosa

2) Banned cars from sentosa

3) Build pavement barriers to protect pedestrian from cars (too bad, no barrier can stop bikers because no barrier is too hard for bikers. Bikers always outsmart drivers)

4) All vehicles banned...

lastly, there are much more cars than bikes in Singapore. But how many bikes kanna fire arson in car park, compared with car? We know the answer, so does Sentosa. You can be sure Sentosa Group will not tourist to hear & see unexpected firework from bikes in car park & in the middle of midnight & in the middle of nowhere (illegal parking).

Those who had done department budget & accounting will doubt that it make money sense to employ security guards etc, to 1) prevent bikers from become fireworks and 2) ensure bikes are only in road & designated lane only etc. However, you don't need much manpower to prevent cars from going into wrong places.
