hello fellas,

jus a quick question, how much does it cost to change the rubber seal for one side of the front fork for g4? i.e cost including seal, new oil and workmanship . Theres some oil leak at my front right fork.

i know southern at b.merah does the above mentioned for r1 for $65. Any ideas for g4 at different places?

anywai, i read that some of u have installed the IS issit? hows the response so far? issit as good as they say?

Lastly, for my bike, there seems to be quite a bit of vibration on the front handle when i go 100km/h on 6th gear.. i thought it was gear issues or maybe clutch plates but at other gears and at same rev, prob does not occur. Could it be due to the front fork ? or something else..

appreciate ur insights.. thanks

Its better to think for a minute than to talk crap for an hour. Better talk crap for an hour than to keep quiet the whole day..

i did my forks previously at Guan Hoe for 90.

last remembered that bikelab charges in the region of 100++

the prices are for servicing both the legs.

IMHO, if you can muster up enuff cash, y not take the opportunity to do both legs, Don feel that it's good to have old oil in one leg and fresh one in the other. (unless you have just recently serviced them).

hmmm...IS = impedence stabilizer? :sweat:

Cheers,

i'm not riding a G4 anymore :D

Was using Shell Advanced Ultra. hmm....exact viscosity cannot remember anymore. :sorry:

It's wat Guan Hoe uses co i go there for my servicing needs.

I dun think running on a higher viscosity oil will give you the probs you describe.

Best way to know if yer plugs need to be swapped is to open yer bike up to have a look see. Other than that, its rather difficult to confirm.

some tell-tale signs that one or more of yer plugs may be goners:

1) Bike sounds like a scrambler :p

2) No power, have to rev like mad to move off from stand still

3) Strong smell of unburnt fuel from the exhaust

I swapped my cracked rear brake reservoir (which I forcely open) with another gsxr400 at planet which they are going to export for $15.

Initially he (Ah Chong) wants $20 later I neg with him, I can do the swap myself for $15, but end up his mech do all the work and top up the brake fluid for me when I chat up with his mech. Pretty good deal.

I notice alot of G4 has the problem of the front fork chrome pitted off, is it possible to chrome the fork tube, any shop to recommend?

Wanted to chrome mine the last time when I change my fork oil, but the shop unwilling saying fork tube may jammed if the thickness is not chrome correctly.

They are screwed into the engine at the top. Pull out the spark plug cap (dun pull on the wire) and you will see it inside a deep recess hole. Need to use a long spark plug tool, 16mm hex to unscrew them. When putting back the new one, torque them properly, overtighten will damage the screw thread. :goodluck:

You can remove the plugs on cylinders 1 and 4 without having to remove the fuel tank if you have a long enuff spark plug tool.

For cylinders 2 and 3, no choice, have to remove the tank.

IS is impedence stabiliser

VS is voltage stabiliser.

Im not sure wat are the differences betw these 2 but im using the IS now. yet to try out the VS. so far my response on throttle has improved quite a bit.. eng brake not as much as before.. when changing gear, the transmission is smooth..

but fuel consumption increased by 5km to 10km b4 reserve only. Might remove the IS and try the VS instead.

No more regrets.

Hi Donut.

Thanks man. Yeap anticipating it. Planning to try change back to stock filter the when I service my carb soon, so at the same time can re-jet the boy back.

See how also, cos times are hard, $ seems invisible these days.

Furthermore, I just changed to a 15W-50 engine oil. Results in my bike has this sputtering sound, and mileage now before reserve is 180 instead of the usual 210. Crap man.. I hope things will be ok if i switch 10W-40.

Any of you experience this before?

And how do you know your sparkplugs need change? (other than touching the headers). Any tell tale signs?

Replies damn appreciated now.

Bro, i won't recommend u use back 10-40 EO cause it's too dense liao. G4's old eNgine might not tahan and the sound will be very hoarse. That's my 2 cents worth.
